Negative experience: Wheel chair user who didnt even get over the doorstep. Just told in a negative attitude "NO, no space here". I wasn't in the chair and was about to fold it up but told we couldn't come in. Not impressed.

The shop has a very chill, friendly vibe that puts you at ease as soon as you walk in. Kris is an amazing artist — professional, patient, and seriously talented. He transformed an old tattoo which was truly awful into a stunning samurai piece that looks better than I ever imagined.

Georgiana tattooed me and she was extremely friendly and very good at helping me decide the positioning and size of the tattoo, made quick work of the tattoo too. Negative experience: I really wanted to have a great experience here, but unfortunately, it was one of the most uncomfortable tattoo appointments I’ve ever had. I have 12 tattoos, so I’m familiar with the process, but I’ve never felt so dismissed by an artist (Viktor). We sent in our design over a month in advance, but when we arrived, we were shown something completely different. The artist said he couldn’t copy designs from Pinterest — which I understand — but the version he presented us was ALSO from Pinterest. When we tried to give direction to get closer to what we wanted, he made us feel like an inconvenience rather than clients trying to collaborate. Eventually, he said he’d just trace the original design we’d sent, but by that point, we’d lost confidence in him and decided to forfeit our deposit instead of going through with the tattoo. It was a really disappointing experience, and based on this interaction, I wouldn’t recommend this shop.

From my last-minute call to walking out with my amazing new piercing, everything was perfect. Despite it being a Sunday, the lovely receptionist squeezed me in, and Rafael kindly stayed late just for my appointment. The studio vibe was super chill and warmly welcoming. Rafael was so very patient while I went back and forth on earring choices (thank you!!), and he explained the procedure thoroughly, especially the hygiene and safety parts. Then one quick, clean jab—and voilà! Beautiful new blue-purple earring in place. Two days later now and there is minimal redness, no pain, and I’m increasing more over the moon with my choice. Compared to other places (quite nearby), this experience was THE BEST in every sense, especially in human and professional approach to customers! Huge thanks to Rafael and the team—wish more stars would be possible xxx

Negative experience: I had an extremely upsetting and unprofessional experience at Sanatorium Tattoo Studio today . I arrived very excited for my appointment only to be told that they would not tattoo me. They gave no valid reason for refusing the service and instead made incorrect and offensive assumptions about me. Despite me clearly being female, the staff repeatedly misgendered me — referring to me as “him” and “his” when talking about refunding my deposit. This was not only inaccurate, but also deeply disrespectful and humiliating. I went in expecting professionalism, artistry, and respect, and instead I was treated with ignorance and discrimination. A tattoo studio should be a safe, welcoming space for all clients, but Sanatorium showed me the exact opposite. I would not recommend this place to anyone who values being treated with dignity and respect!!

Fantastic experience: The best tattoo shop I've ever been to! I was travelling solo from France and was out walking one evening when I asked for a last-minute appointment for a tattoo. They quickly agreed and I had my tattoo an hour later, just like that The tattoo artist was very friendly and his work is incredible. I love my tattoo and the way he designed it ✨ A big thank you also to the man I spoke to at the beginning, I had the best conversations of my entire trip! Negative experience: Would never recommend this tattoo shop! Booked in wrong! It was a special tattoo for myself and husband! then when waiting for refund in shop. £150 deposit, Completely lied and showed wrong bank details. Customer service was shocking! Had all the proof via WhatsApp was quick to take money of you! Luckily another tattoo shop in Edinburgh ( tribal art) sympathised with what happened and did this for us! Safe to say we LOVE THIS THE SHOP WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and I think we had a lucky escape. Please go elsewhere I thought it looked really professional but to be honest it wasn’t all that!!

Fantastic experience: As many people before me, I also share that I had an overall wonderful experience and super happy with my tattoo :) I got in touch with Sanatorium Tattoo online after skimming through the website and reviews, also comparing with others, and decided to go ahead with them. Donna got in touch with me and the overall process of booking and sharing the tattoo idea was absolutely easy going.chilled atmosphere and everyone around is friendly :) Patrik Nadudvari was the one who then brought my tattoo wish “to live” and I love it:) I put his thoughts and ideas in the final draft, which I always liked in my tattoos, and I love love the outcome. Also here again: completely easy going. I also recommend this studio and of cause, the tattoo artist And, as it was a nice experience, I also got a new piercing (Daith piercing) at this place. Rafael Flocco was super nice and thorough. He ensured that everything was clean and I am aware of important things to know (e.g. aftercare). Overall, nice experience as well :)

Book in advance though, just while I was waiting there were at least 4 people requesting a walk in appointment. I only booked the week before and so grateful I managed to get in with them.

Fantastic experience: I got a tattoo done by Michael Malatesta at the beginning of September 2025, and I can only recommend him and Sanatorium Tattoo. My appointment was scheduled from 1-3 pm that day, and I wasn’t very flexible otherwise cause I had to go to the airport immediately after to catch a flight. But Michael’s bus got delayed, which caused us to be only able to start with the tattooing process after 2 pm. Michael stayed calm throughout that time and made sure that everything was how I liked it and everything was up to sanitary standards before he started tattooing. Because of the delay, we obviously weren’t finished at 3 pm, but the people from Sanatorium Tattoo were super accommodating and helpful. They actually ordered me a Taxi so I’d still be able to make it to the airport on time. Additionally, they decreased the pricing of my tattoo because of the delay, and so I could use the extra money to pay for the taxi, for which I‘m extremely grateful. All in all, I can only say that I had a great time with Sanatorium Tattoo and Michael and I love my new tattoo! The people are super friendly, they know what they’re doing and the vibes are great. So if you’re ever in Edinburgh and want to get a tattoo done by very capable people, I recommend Sanatorium Tattoo.

I originally wanted to book an appointment for Tuesday, but when that didn’t work out, he just said, “Let’s go, we can do it now, no problem!” That kind of flexibility already made me feel really welcome. During the whole process, Marcin kept checking in to make sure I was comfortable with the pain level and happy with the design. He did an outstanding job! the shading and everything looks incredible, super clean, and very professional. On top of that, the whole studio has such a friendly atmosphere. I couldn’t be happier with the result and would definitely recommend Sanatorium Tattoo Studio to anyone looking for high-quality work!

Fantastic experience: Struan was fantastic, I was looking for a small stamp tattoo to commemorate our trip and the shop was able to fit me in, Struan was quick and detailed in coming up with the design and was a pleasure to talk to while sitting for my tattoo. I love my new tattoo!

Fantastic experience: Went to the pop-up shop today at Summerhall and was tattooed by Georgiana, and Luke making sure appointments and walk-ins were all taken care of. Loved the experience! The way they speak to you as a client and walk-ins, taking in ideas and chatting, it makes you feel so calm and confident, and you’re treated with so much respect and appreciation. Everything was so clean and everyone was taking brilliant infection prevention cautions (NHS couldn’t have done it better!), and Georgiana was so gentle to the point where I thought I might fall asleep. I came in with a rough idea and sent a few reference pictures over, and came out with exactly what I wanted but better. Was in and out within the hour either way a second skin applied, an A4 list of aftercare, and because I’d paid an extra tenner for the deposit I got a healing balm (“Hustle Butter”) from the shop on Drummond St. Overall loved the experience and will definitely be booking soon for the next few ideas I have.
