Fantastic experience: My friends and I went in on Sunday for just a flash/souvenir tattoo and everyone was so sweet and chill from Oxygen in the front to Bugg and Roy who tattooed us. We wanted to get matching and it was just a very welcoming space. We talked, we joked and we told funny stories. It felt like just talking to friends. But our tattoos? Super cute and so detailed. Would love to come back on my next trip.

Fantastic experience: I visit New Orleans every year in October and decided to get a little tattoo for my favorite place. Showed up as a walk-in and barely waited. Was in and out in less than an hour. Everyone was kind and Chopper Pete was great. He even touched up my constellation as part of the work. Shop minimum was reasonable and saniderm was supplied. Great experience, I’d absolutely recommend this shop!

I was having issues with a piercing I received at a different establishment. Oxygen took on the challenge with both confidence and determination, what I thought was going to be both painful and impossible to fix, they solved with a swiftness. Roy was patient with me when I had questions, attentive to every detail, and made the whole process so easy and comfortable. He even suggested a color change that completely shifted the idea I originally had, and it turned out SO much better than I could have imagined. That level of care and artistry really blew me away. Not only is his work top-notch, but he’s also super easy to talk to, which made the experience even better. I can honestly say I’ll be traveling back to Hell or High-Water just to be serviced by Roy. If you’re looking for quality work, professionalism, and an all-around great experience, this is the place to go.

Negative experience: The guy was really nice when I came in and got his cards that I could schedule on Instagram. Filled out the form on Instagram and they asked me, in the message, the same information. I asked them if they got the form or if I needed to fill it out again and they said fill it out again. So I filled it out again. Whoever is running their chat, got short with me after the second time I filled out the form and asked me for the exact same information. I explained to them that I’ve already filled out the form twice, providing all the information they are asking for. They said “obviously the form isn’t working. So I sent a screenshot of my entries which included all the information he asked, making that the third time. They had an attitude and I said never mind. I’ll go somewhere else and they proceeded to tell me that anywhere I go they’ll need that information. And I said hopefully I’ll only have to say it once. Terrible customer service

Fantastic experience: My Bestie and I agreed to get pierced while on vacation. To begin, my Bestie was a little anxious, but Oxygen's calming spirit and level of professionalism put the Bestie at easy. The next thing I hear is "That's it?" and the Bestie came out cheesing with a tragus piercing. As for me, I had concerns about aftercare for an industrial piercing due to my curly hair. Past piercers offered no alternatives, but Oxygen simply recommended I get a helix and a forward helix piercing to start. A little quick research, and it made sense. It was quick and she provided me with the bar to switch out later. She set expectations and provided thorough yet concise instructions. Okay... all that to say, if you are on the fence or you know what you want, but you are looking for a good fit. Just see her. It's my best piercing experience (hands down).

Mags was so sweet and explained everything to me since it was my first tattoo. She also did a really great job on our tattoo design and drew it up so fast. I knew what I wanted as a souvenir of my visit to NOLA, told Chopper Pete my vision and he made it happen! It's one of my favorite tattoos so far! His 30+ years expertise manifested in combined speed and attention to details. He is very experienced with tattooing melanin skin. His recommendations improved what I was aiming for. The final result made me emotional bc I tattooed my daughter's name on my wrist. Now I can travel around with her even when she can't physically come with me. We had a concept of what we wanted and most if not all of the tattoo artists helped us find the perfect design. We had a guest tattooist from Massachusetts place our tattoos and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Fantastic experience: Had a great time at Hell or High Water. My wife and I came back to the French quarter for our 10th wedding anniversary, where we did our honeymoon. We decided beforehand to get tattoos and found Hell or High Water online. We walked in and talked to Jen, who took our deposit and info. She did a great job with communicating with us. Sean agreed to come in and do our tattoos. We gave him artistic freedom, just gave him what we wanted and colors we would like. He did an amazing job with what we wanted, only making minor adjustments but thoroughly explaining why. He was very personable along with everybody else in the shop. The price was very reasonable for our tattoos. We'll be back with some friends, plus I've got another tattoo idea I'm only going to trust in Sean's hands.

Fantastic experience: We’re visiting from southeast Texas and thought we should get a tattoo to commemorate the trip and boy are we glad we chose this place!!!!!!!! Super small, but great vibes and great people. We walked in without an appointment around 2pm, Jen put our names and numbers on a list, and we were able to explore the French Quarter for a while before an artist became available. Jen is an incredible front desk attendant and person in general, she so kindly shared half her (very delicious) Francolini’s sandwich with us and even wrote a whole list of other recommendations for us as Francolini’s would be closed the rest of our trip. Sean who did our tattoos is wonderful, just as excited to tattoo us as we were to get tatted and so chill!!! You know you’re in good hands when someone has a skullet!!

Fantastic experience: Such a great shop, where do I even start?! From Jen at the front desk to my artist Mags, this place is about as close to perfect as you’ll find. Clean, comfortable, and adorably decorated with a staff that will make you feel right at home. I was visiting for the Super Bowl and just walked in with a vague idea, and Mags absolutely crushed it. I couldn’t be happier with my little piece of New Orleans I’ll be taking back to Philly with me! Can’t recommend this place enough.

Fantastic experience: After searching up and down for artists in the area who tattoo with the creepy gothic/horror aesthetic I was looking for, I was so happy to have come across Mags at Hell or High Water. She is so friendly and fun to chat with and came up with the coolest custom tattoo designs for my friend and I - and even took the time to tweak mine so that it fit just right with an old tattoo I already had nearby! The shop was also so great about helping out when my saniderm bandage decided to peel off too soon. So glad my friend and I spent a day of our vacation getting tattooed here - we’ll definitely be back through! Only one note for anyone who may be disabled and wanting to visit, check ahead of time if the elevator is working and/or if accommodations can be made because some artists are upstairs and the elevator was out when we visited. I use a cane, but it wasn’t at all a problem for me to use the stairs, however if stairs aren’t an option, definitely call ahead just to make sure!

Negative experience: A Heartbreaking and Exploitative Experience - My fiancée and I traveled to New Orleans with friends and family to get married in what was meant to be a magical city. We were there over Halloween, and before we left, I thought about getting a tattoo to honor my dog, Estrella, who passed away on October 31, 2020. Due to wedding expenses, I promised to keep it simple and under $200, if I got it at all. After some research, I chose a minimalist design with two paw prints and a seven-pointed star--a meaningful, small tribute. Still, I was hesitant. With all the wedding events, I wasn't sure if I could justify the time or money. But once in New Orleans, the city's spirit inspired me. On Halloween, while exploring the French Quarter, I mentioned to my fiancée that I'd check out Hell or High Water Tattoo to see if timing and price could work. On my way to the shop, I saw a restaurant sign on Decatur Street with "Estrella" written in yellow, blue, and red, the colors of the Ecuadorian flag--my father's heritage. It felt like a sign that the tattoo was meant to be. Inspired, I walked into Hell or High Water and met Roman at the front desk. I shared my story, showed him the reference with paw prints and a star, and a photo of the sign with Estrella's name in script and Ecuadorian colors. Roman seemed moved and went to check with an artist, Sean. He returned, saying they couldn't do it that day but offered to book me with Sean for the next day 11/1/2024 at 5 PM, quoting $180 for the work and said it would take about an hour. It seemed reasonable, so I left a $100 deposit and my number in case they could fit me in later that day. Later, Roman called, saying they could take me at 5 PM that same evening on 10/31/2024. Excited, I rushed over, mentioning my 6:30 PM reservation with my fiancée. When I arrived, Sean was still tattooing another couple, and I waited 45 minutes before he came over. He then explained he was hungry and preferred to do it the next day. He said he didn't want to "rush a memorial tattoo" since it was "special" and promised he'd "draw something up" for the next day. Although it was disappointing, I appreciated the sentiment and agreed. The next day, I returned, eager to see Sean's design. To my surprise, he'd simply copied and pasted the reference images I'd provided, adding no original touch. But given the circumstances, I agreed, thinking a simple tattoo would suffice and it was only $180. The process was incredibly impersonal. Sean's workspace was cluttered, and he seemed indifferent about the experience. I focused on honoring Estrella's memory and tried to get through it. Afterward, Sean told me to meet him at the front desk to settle up. Expecting a slight increase, I was shocked when he quoted $450. I reminded him that the quote was $180, but he claimed the extra was for "drawing it up and adding color," even though there was no creative input. Feeling cornered and rushed for time, I reluctantly paid. As I left, he (with a grin) had the audacity to say, "I'll tattoo you anytime." Let me say "No, Sean. No, you won't." This incident was a clear exploitation of my emotional investment. The tattoo itself is basic and was meant to honor a cherished pet, but instead, it became a reminder of this upsetting experience. The disappointment didn't just sour the tattoo--it soured the magic of the city for me. What was supposed to be deeply meaningful turned into one of regret and bitterness that lingered over the rest of my trip. To make matters worse, a friend in our wedding party got a larger, detailed, original tattoo from another artist at Hell or High Water for a fraction of what I paid. When that artist heard my story and saw the tattoo, he was shocked and clearly embarrassed on behalf of the shop. This review is a warning to anyone considering Hell or High Water Tattoo. Avoid Sean (@seanlindseygoodbabybunny) if you value integrity, empathy, and respect. Hell or High Water, I urge you to make this right, as those funds were meant for wedding expenses, not an overpriced, unoriginal work.

Fantastic experience: got in quickly for a walk in with mags for some tattoos on my thumbs, and she also touched up some of my other finger tattoos that were looking rough and she didn’t even do them. i had a really pleasant time chatting with mags while she worked. the shop is great. highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Me, my wife, and our friend stopped in at Hell or High Water tattoo yesterday to see if we could get a walk in appointment and Mags took us in and listened to what we wanted and took time to craft the drawing to our exact specifications and we ended up spending all day with her. She was fantastic! Our tattoos ended up better than I was even hoping for. The shop was clean and had a great atmosphere. Definitely recommend this shop and specifically Mags.

Fantastic experience: Chill vibes, good people, quality tattoos :) I got tattooed by Mecca and would highly recommend them!! I got my first from them 10 years ago, another 6 years ago, and one today! The ones in the past have held up so perfectly and the lines are still so crisp. Mecca’s work holds up and is so pretty :)

Fantastic experience: Hell or high water is my favorite Tatoo shop. Everyone that works there is so kind and talented. Bugg has done a lot of work on me and his art is beyond. His art is ridiculous good, he’s also very fast and gentle. He’s super thorough with his communication with the goal of giving you the best ink. He has helped me feel more worthy and beautiful on the inside and has manifested that onto the outside in ink. I can’t say enough about him. Best Tatoo artist in New Orleans.

Fantastic experience: My son and I walked in on our first adult trip together to get mom and son tattoos. Bugg stepped in to take care of us and was so fun. He even redesigned our “idea” to better fit for what we had as a vision. Very affordable, great work and great vibe. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Mags did my tattoo she was extremely professional and did an amazing job on my tattoo! At the same time, I was getting my tattoo done. My husband was getting his tattoo done by a gentleman named Chopper Pete and the two tattoos are absolutely amazing. Extremely happy we stopped in.

Fantastic experience: I normally don’t leave reviews, but I hope this business continues to thrive. Me & my sisters were in Nola & wanted to get matching tattoos. This was the highest rated tattoo shop we saw. We called and within 15 minutes we had an appointment scheduled. When we entered the shop they knew exactly who we were. Everyone was very welcoming, professional, and patient. Rashad was very clean and thorough. The atmosphere was very peaceful & we enjoyed ourselves. 10/10 recommend if you’re in NOLA looking for a tattoo shop.

Fantastic experience: My wife and her girlfriend came in to get a New Orleans symbolization tattoo!!! From the time we walked in the door ROMAN! Made sure we were welcomed and made us feel like family…. Shawn did the Tattoos and were very happy with the professionalism of this shop 10/10 would recommend… and did I mentioned it was 93 degrees when we walked in and we were immediately greeted and was seated with water by Roman!!!!
