Fantastic experience: Professional, personal, classy, artisitc, accommodating, just a few words to describe Koen and Tattoo Gold. My daughter wanted a unique piece incorporating her mums ashes and Koen deliveried in spades. He came in on his day off and made a very memorable day incredibly special. If you are looking at getting something done then this should be your first and last stop.

She answered all of our questions thoroughly, both before and after the appointment, was upfront and honest about pricing and payment, and provided excellent aftercare advice and support. Fantastic experience: Had a great experience at Tattoo Gold in Takapuna. Came in as a walk in client with my sister and was met with a warm/welcoming vibe with amazing service. We had Roscoe as our tattoo artist today. He made my sister and I feel very safe and we both trusted that he could bring our idea to life. Even though it’s not my first tattoo, this experience was better than my first and it turned out exactly how I wanted and is now my favourite tattoo. Definitely coming back in the future! Fantastic experience: My friends and I traveled from Western Australia to get tattooed at Tattoo Gold on November 2025. We had a fantastic experience with our artists Coen (working on my hip), Hoko (working on back of upper arm) & Tian (working on upper back). All 3 artists are immensely talented and knowledgeable. 2 of us had full-day sessions, but all 3 of us were made to feel so welcome and comfortable during our time in the studio. Organising a long group booking over email can be challenging, but the team made it a smooth process, allowing us to dive right into our sessions when we arrived. The final pieces are all incredible, and it's an experience we will all remember for many years to come. Will definitely pop in for more next time in NZ

I asked him to freshen up my 15 year old tattoe design without deviating from the design and he enhanced, enriched and perfected it with sharp definition. Negative experience: 1/5 Stars - Disappointing Experience with Coen Mitchell at Tattoo Gold I'm writing this review to warn others about the poor service and lack of professionalism I experienced with Coen Mitchell at Tattoo Gold. From start to finish, the process was a nightmare. Despite his accolades and good reviews, I was left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The tattoo itself was a mess, with noticeable mistakes that required multiple touch-ups. Coen's communication was poor, and he would often come up with excuses for not responding to emails within a reasonable timeframe. When I did manage to get in touch with him, he seemed insensitive to my needs and didn't listen to what I wanted. The biggest issue was the lack of attention to detail and understanding of how the tattoo would look on my body. When I stood up after the tattoo was done, it was clear that it had been pulled out of shape, and the image was distorted. This was pointed out by an onlooker, not Coen himself. I've since gone to another artist to fix the mistakes, and I'm shocked at the difference in service and quality. Other artists have been prompt, communicative, and willing to work with me to achieve the desired result. If you're considering working with Coen Mitchell, be aware of his inconsistencies and lack of attention to detail. His prices may be high, but the value is not worth it. I'm rating my experience with Coen 1 out of 5 stars, and I would not recommend him to anyone.
