Communication before the appointment was clear, with a price range provided in advance. The studio follows a structured process, including consent forms prior to the session. The tattoo was completed efficiently by Tama. Overall, a straightforward, organised and flexible experience.

Fantastic experience: I was in Auckland in December 2019. I wanted to get a kirituhi tattoo and went to Otautahi. We talked about the kind of thing I wanted and Jordan drew the design freehand on my leg - perfect! It was painful - my first tattoo! - but manageable. I was given advice on post-tattooing treatment and I had no problems with aftercare etc. The studio is clean, the price was OK and the vibe is relaxed. Recommended!

Fantastic experience: I’d been working with Jack and Alyssa for the past 3 months in prep for my trip to New Zealand. The whole process from concept to completion was incredibly easy over email communication. Went with two elvish script tattoos that were quotes from Tolkien. One was a full forearm cuff wrap and the other was on the back of my calf. After multiple stencil placements Jace aligned perfectly and he got to it. He made quick and precise work of the piece and an hour later we were done. Turned out better than I could’ve hoped. The calf was the next day and knocked that out in roughly 15 minutes. Alyssa and Jace were awesome throughout the whole process, and I could t be happier with the entire experience. Thanks y’all!

I highly recommend Bryan Sikkematattoo! He's a great guy—really friendly and easy to talk to. He listens to what you want and quickly comes up with some fantastic options. Fantastic experience: I was is today with my partner, and we both had work done - we’re so happy with the outcome! Jase did mine and he was such a great vibe, but so was everyone else. From the preparation, to the process to the end result, it was an awesome experience. And, I must add, the most pain-free tatt I’ve had. (I only had seven before these, but still!) Great work - will definitely go back for more. I also had a touch up of one I got from some barbarian last year; I am happy with it now.

Fantastic experience: March 2025: - Just had my second tattoo with Elijah. I love it so much. It was an addition to the one he did last year for me. This one represents my motorbike, my mum and dad’s passing and my experiences since. I would highly recommend Elijah to anybody wanting something special and thoughtful done that is unique and represents your own unique life. — April 2025: Absolutely amazing experience with Elijah. I had an initial design to work with but he took it to the next level with a beautiful spiral design. I had wanted to represent my experiences in NZ over the years which are unique as involve aviation and nature and he did everything I wanted and more. I highly recommend him.

Fantastic experience: We had been thinking about tattoos during our trip to NZ. When we stumbled across Otautahi we knew it was the right spot. They were happy to take us as a walk-in and work with our ideas. Rodrigo was fantastic! They were our first tattoos, so he walked us through the process. We really enjoyed our conversation with him for the couple hours we were there. Can’t say enough good things about Rodrigo and our experience. Will definitely get another tattoo at Otautahi the next time we go to Auckland.

In the process of getting a blackout sleeve to cover up my old tattoos and everything he's reccomended for aftercare and what to expect etc. Has been 100% spot on. Other artists are great to talk to too and always bring a smile to my face when I'm there. 10/10 reccomend.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience here. I went to get a nostril piercing done last Thursday at around 3pm, and the person who helped me was so good. It was quick, and I barely felt any pain. I was accompanied y a friend who told me that my piercer was very careful and made sure they were using all sterile products to pierce me. It's been a couple days since I pierced it and it's healing well, no pain and no infections. The person at the counter was also really cool. If you're looking for a piercing, I would highly recommend this place.

Negative experience: Don't trust Jordan Clarke. Many times he promised to send me a description of the tattoo, because I didn't understand it clearly due to my language barrier. Jordan repeatedly promised to send me a description, and then stopped responding to messages. More than 6 months have passed and he is still playing the game with a broken computer, lack of time, etc. I do not recommend him, because a word is a word. The rest of the team seems perfect, the reception girls top quality, when I organized the tattoo, she was always helpful and quick to respond. So one Jordan ruins a perfect view.

Positive experience: This was my first tattoo, a beautiful forearm piece done by Tama, awesome guy and real nice, the only downfall is the price. This piece was initially quoted at $2950, managed to get it for $2500. (Everyone I’ve asked said I got ripped off) I understood the pricing structure to be $650 per hand size, but what I didn’t expect was that the hands would be the size of a small child. I would 100% go to the same artist again but not the same studio if it’s at that price.

Negative experience: Got a tattoo back in 2021 tattoo only took 4 and a half hours it looks rushed some of the lines aren't as nice as they could be and it cost $2000 I've been to a different studio (the native studio) since and have gotten a tattoo that took the same time and is around the same size if not bigger and the lines and workmanship is sooo much better looks professional not rushed and not a outrageous price for the piece i feel like i got taken advantage of and overall wouldn't recommend this studio

Fantastic experience: From the first email enquiry I sent, the team were exceptional. I travelled to Auckland for work and had always wanted a Kirituhi to represent my father and my son. The artist was amazing, Hamuera was a visiting artist from Hamilton, we had a chat and he started freehanding on my back. The design was more than I was expecting and the final outcome is truly amazing. I would love to thank all the team, the studio is clean, the place is super friendly, I would highly recommend this studio.

Fantastic experience: I booked an appointment with Tama several months in advance to have a kirituhi done at the end of our New Zealand journey and I'm 100% satisfied. I'm still amazed how he was able to freehand the shapes, angles and contures of the art perfectly; it just goes to show how talented he is!

Coming from Brisbane to my first tatoo, Ree was always answering the emails and making sure the booking was ready. Negative experience: Purchased a $400 voucher in 2020 during covid so obviously couldn’t use it during that time but there was no expiry date on the voucher it was crossed out. I emailed over the years about the voucher and booking in and nothing was mentioned about it expiring after a year. I went in today to put some more money on the voucher as a Christmas gift and the girl on the front desk told me it was expired. considering we were in and out of level 3/4 lockdown until the end of 2021 and then we were in the traffic light system until September 2022 that meant I would have never been able to use my voucher. I assumed that because I supported your business through covid that’s why the “valid until” was crossed out. Some sort of empathy from reception would have gone a long way and I wouldn’t have walked out feeling so angry and unheard, $400 back then at a time where no one was working and I wanted to support a small business for it to be thrown in the bin and for me to be treated like my business didn’t matter.

Fantastic experience: My Wife and I planned a trip to the North Island and she had a specific vision for a tattoo. I thought why not as well and got one that's half a pun and half a tribute to my childhood and father and grandfather being dairy farmers. When we arrived I thought "let's add a fern to it to signify our holiday destination" which was no problem Everyone is super friendly and I got exactly what I was after. Sunny was excellent and very friendly. It was a quick process. Very happy indeed and have something extra to remember our trip.

Fantastic experience: Tama did an AMAZING job! & On top of that, the process from start to finish was SO quick. What I thought would be a few hours in the chair, turn into this beautiful & fully customized 5x5 shoulder piece, drawn on the spot, done in a little over an hour. My travel buddy loved my piece so much that she got one of her own. Unfortunately everyone at Otautahi was booked, yet EVERY other tattoo shop we called asked if we already checked Otautahi, which means they have a great reputation within their community.

Negative experience: Super bummed about my experience here. Came in to get my 4 month old nostril piercing checked out to see if it was ready for a hoop. The piercer said she thought it was ready, and then proceeded to force through a larger gauge hoop through the healed piercing. It was painful and she really had to jam it through, and it bled afterward. I asked her if it was normal to bleed and she was like yes because its a thicker jewelry, and I said I didn’t want that, and then she told me that was “what I chose” when a conversation of the sort literally never happened (she was referring to when she presented a few different rings to me before the change and I told her to do what she thought was best). She basically repierced my nose. Totally sucks having to restart the healing process because of the absolute incompetence of the piercer. Disappointed that I went out of my way to go to an “expert” and it had given me a giant bump on my face (I went to another piercer to get original jewelry back in to restart the healing process, but she caused a lot of irritation/damage). If they cannot handle a simple jewelry change than I really doubt their piercing quality is up to snuff.

Fantastic experience: Incredible!!!!! Got pierced here on the 13th. Sunny did my Vertical Labret and she pierced my partners tongue. She did such an incredible job. They're so kind and caring, they have stickers and lollipops.

Fantastic experience: I came to Otautahi Tattoo on April 14, 2023 to get my first tattoo at the age of 50. I could not return to France without inking a trace of my passage on these two islands that make up New Zealand. After telling my story, the artist took his pencils to draw on my forearm what represented me the most and will definitely share my daily life. I chose a fern leaf and did the rest… Unsurprisingly precise, incredible listening to what I wanted to read in my tattoo, this artist was great. Back in France, this tattoo has made and always works its effect with the initiated people and it is with pride that I highlight it. I know that in 2024, I will return to Otautahi Tattoo for the other forearm and make a cuff on the forearm free of any tattoo. In summary, this tattoo lounge is just gorgeous and the staff of exemplary professionalism. Listen, hygiene, rates, everything is done to be put in confidence...

Negative experience: Please make sure you want the tattoo before you make a deposit as they won't mention to you that there are no refunds on your deposit even if it is a week before your scheduled appointment. If I could give this a zero star I would. $100 for a 15min consultation is rip off even with a $100 gift voucher that I can't even use to buy groceries or anything other then stuff from YOUR store. Totally unprofessional.

Fantastic experience: Great place to get a tattoo. The place is very clean, and they all have excellet knowledge of how to sterilise their work stations between clients. I went in for a small customised design which was rendered really well, and I'm now thinking of what design I'll have done next.

From my initial email contact with Phoebe at Otautahi and the final piece done by Vinnie (@koatoa_ink), my entire experience completely exceeded my hopes and expectations. Phoebe was so kind and welcoming and helpful and my entire time spent with Vinnie was transformative. I came into the shop on my 2nd to last day in NZ before returning to Canada. I had an idea for what I wanted and had only recently learned about Kirituhi designs. Vinnie listened carefully to my story, explained his design ideas and translated it all into the most spectacular, meaningful piece that will always remind me of the care and respect he put into this design and my time spent with him. A truly gifted and remarkable young man whose wisdom and presence belie his young age. I would highly recommend this very clean shop and their amazing staff. Fantastic experience: I had always wanted a tattoo and had sat on a design for years. I was finally ready to get my very first tattoo and after looking around at many tattoos studios, I found Otautahi Tattoo. They were very professional and paid attention to what I wanted. Fantastic experience: My tattoo artist was Sunny, who was extremely gentle and made sure to ask for my opinion all the way through, as well as offer suggestions that best-suited my ideas. My tattoos came out exactly as I had asked without the stress. Also thanks to one of the managers, Phoebe, who made communication easy and the overall experience very comfortable! Will be going back :)
