I promised my daughter matching tattoos for her 16th birthday, and from my very first email enquiry the team were so helpful, clearly explaining the documentation needed, answering all my questions and guiding me through the booking process. The quick and clear responses were much appreciated. I chose to book us both in with Dmitry after seeing his fabulous work on their socials, and he was the perfect match. On the day, his calm and reassuring manner put my daughter at ease straight away. The whole process felt professional and welcoming, and even though we both got pretty small fine line tattoos, the speed, value and quality of the work really stood out. Fantastic experience: Absolutely perfect establishment, my tattoo looks absolutely amazing. The artist was an absolute laugh and very great at their job, very cheap price great atmosphere, overall just perfect.

Negative experience: I will not recommend Black Hat Tattoo at Dublin 1, three reasons, firstly I could not register my appointment online so had to call the reception multiple times to confirm the appointment. The receptionist (they call her Sierra-don't know her real name), did not inform or consult me about the price and I ended paying the price which was unreasonable and was unhelpful, the artist Nicholas did not inform me of the price I'll be paying for the tattoo, so basically for a single line of arm band I ended up paying a lot more than I was expecting, atlast I had to pay, even though I did not like the service, over all experience was awful and I was taken aback with the lack of customer assistance and won't recommend to visit here unless you are properly informed and consulted of what you are getting and what you will be paying. Thumbs down

Fantastic experience: At the age of 53 (it's only a number) I got my first tattoo this month at Black Hat in Parnell Street. It was a script tattoo with an important quote from my late dad. I spoke to Dmitry and explained that I needed, he gave me options on how to have it done, how it would look etc. EDIT: second tattoo in the bag white feather + ogham script, getting great compliments, delighted with it. Brilliant service, great customer care, I'm delighted with the tattoo. Thanks Dmitry and all at Black Hat. Phil.

Fantastic experience: Checked reviews before contacting them, went in for a free consultation, met Faye and I couldn't have met a nicer person. This was my first tattoo and I'm in my late 50s. I explained what I wanted and Faye was very understanding and offered excellent suggestions. Arrived on the agreed date and she could not have been kinder and more reassuring. In fact, it was over before I realised! Our chat was far more serendipitous than either of us expected and I definitely met this wonderful person for a reason. Highly recommend the studio, very clean and welcoming.

Fantastic experience: Stopped by the shop to see if they had any openings as I was in Dublin for a couple days on my travels. Was able to get an appointment for the following day and paid a small deposit I believe. Shop was clean. Everyone was friendly. My artist was super cool and seemed genuinely happy to add a tattoo to my collection of travel tattoos. Would recommend this shop for sure. I kept the card and would send anyone I know that way who are in town. Sadly I can’t recall my artists name. I’m terrible with names and it was a while ago that I was there.

Fantastic experience: I traveled to Dublin for my 60th birthday and I knew I was going to get a tattoo. Sofia is very professional and was very accommodating. Considering I messed up my time that I showed up because they are 5 hours ahead. Very clean establishment.

Negative experience: My sister was supposed to get her first tattoo here recently. Upon arriving to her appointment the tattoo artist was extremely rude to her, insisting that her tattoo wasn’t meaningful and that she “was still going through puberty”. She became very upset by this and requested a refund for the appointment and they said someone would be in touch to do this. I had to call the shop as no one had contacted us yet in which they told me that I would have to visit the shop in order to receive the refund. Extremely disappointing and inconvenient experience.

Fantastic experience: I can really recommend this Tattoo Studio. It is really sanitary and I felt really comfortable. As I needed someone to do a scar cover up, I contacted the studio to get a recommendation in terms of which artist would fit. I decided on Dmitry (@kotovotok). He really took into account, how to fit the tattoo best with my scars and my body shape. I felt really comfortable with him and I am really happy with my tattoo, so I also got a second one a few months later. He works incredibly fast, the quality and detail of the tattoos is insane! Can only recommend! Will be coming back to Dublin for another tattoo someday. Thanks Dmitry!

Fantastic experience: I have a cover up tattoo here and my experience was excellent, I was happy with the design and service, everything was on the great level. I like the salon and people there.

Negative experience: My experience with Black Hat started when my chosen artist arrived to our consultation forty minutes late. From there, things went steadily downhill. My design was estimated at between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 hours. After about five hours, the artist told me that it was taking longer than expected because her needle was malfunctioning (who on earth continues a tattoo with faulty equipment?!). I have no idea why she didn’t stop and reschedule for another day, but as this was my first tattoo, I didn’t know what to expect. The work ended up taking 7 1/2 hours, which I was not at all prepared for; by the end, the pain was so intense that all I could see was white. This was heavily exacerbated by the high-decibel club music (apparently Dublin’s taking steps to become an autism-friendly city; places like this are why I have my doubts). When we finally wrapped up, I had a panic attack in the bathroom. After, she told me she needed to take pictures before I could leave. I should have just said no, but I was so exhausted I probably couldn’t have even told you my own name. What’s worse is that the colour in my tattoo faded drastically within just a few days, even though I followed the care instructions obsessively. No one could believe it was brand new. I ended up going to a different studio to get it redone, doubling the cost. I have so much anger at myself for not walking away in a dozen different moments. Normally I don’t like to write negative reviews, but I just think people should be aware. If you’re concerned about your mental health or in any way neurodivergent, please, please steer clear.

Fantastic experience: I got tattooed by Mario (Mario_tattoos_) on a recent trip to Dublin and could not have had a better experience. I was getting a large piece on my leg that required me to be on my side for several hours and Mario made sure I was comfortable from the start and throughout the process. On top of it being a BEAUTIFUL tattoo, Mario was so kind and considerate in his interactions with my partner and me. I have been tattooed by many artists in many cities (mostly in the US) and this was by far, my best tattoo experience I have ever had. If you want a beautiful, unique traditional tattoo, he is the person you want to do it in Dublin. He’s a hidden gem, and I would love to get another piece from him. Black Hat also stood out as a high quality shop. Because I was getting a large tattoo and was there for several hours, I was around others getting tattooed by other artists and watched as they all were very dedicated to both quality tattoos and educating their clients on aftercare. The shop was very clean and tidy, everyone was super nice and friendly, and their website was very helpful for FAQs and basically anything you could potentially have a question about. I honestly wish my first tattoo experience could have been more like this one. Next time I’m in Dublin, I’ll definitely be back.

Fantastic experience: I got tattooed here on August 17th on my trip to Ireland, and I’m super happy with it! As a (at the time) 16 year old, after reading about the tattoo laws in Ireland, I decided I would get one during my visit. After deciding what I wanted, getting my parent’s approval, drawing my idea, and finding a tattoo shop that would tattoo minors, I got it done! I believe the artist who did my tattoo was Mario, and he did a fantastic job! the healing process went great, and it healed fully within a couple weeks.

Fantastic experience: Tattoo done over 3 weeks ago and fully healed. Very professional approach ie I was welcome by a first person who briefly listened to my request. She then called one of the guys who took a few minutes to listen to what I wanted. He then probably thought that there was a better guy in there for that particular tattoo and called a colleague. So then came Victor, a very talented artist whose best talent is probably to listen to what you want and then make it better than what you thought ! I came in basically with an original tattoo that I got done somewhere else 2 months ago and for which I was disappointed and not happy about. I felt it was incomplete and so Victor came up with a beautiful project to respect the original tattoo but added his own piece of art to wrap it up beautifully. So from an original tattoo that let me down Victor transformed it to my favourite tattoo. And compared to other tattoos that I have got done over the last 20 years, I have to say that Victor's is one of the highest standard I've got if not the finest. Overall, I definitely recommend this tattoo studio also for the customer experience.

Negative experience: Went there for a small, simple celtic triangle. The tattoo artist did a great job, took about 45 minutes from start to finish. However, they refused to take a credit card and charged me €250. I had to go to an ATM, deal with the charges from that as well. But their website says a max of €180/hour, with an €80 minimum. I payed that amount and gave a 20% tip. They also refused to put a tattoo on my brothers hand and argued with him on placement and size, which lead to my brother not getting a tattoo at all there. Overall I would NEVER go there again and would NOT recommend them at all. They are good arists, but they are dishonest.

Negative experience: I was very much looking forward to visiting this tattoo shop on my trip to Ireland and they did not disappoint. A simple design for my best friend and me, quality care and service. *Edit* I have to update my review. After one week, during the healing process my tattoo is like a henna washing away. I can’t just return to Ireland to have it redone and request a refund, so I’ll have it redone by an artist near my home. Double the cost for a simple tattoo. I’m very disappointed.

I immediately scheduled an appointment when I saw Dmitrys work. It was a very easy process, same as the day of my appointment. Dmirty took the time to understand exactly what I wanted. We communicated through IG, and she was very responsive to my messages. The shop itself was clean and comfortable, and Beri was very personable and put me at ease. In the midst of the chaos I was changing our appts so many times but they would email so quick and have everything set. We sadly had to cancel but appreciated the empathy and ease of changes! Fantastic experience: My son and I were in Dublin on a group tour from the states, we inquired about getting tattoos together to mark the memorable experience traveling abroad. The Black Hat was very quick to answer my messages and accommodated us that same day! Victor was great, he helped calm my first timer son and we both left with lasting souvenirs! If I’m ever back in Dublin again, I sure hope to return, I will definitely be making another stop for more ink!

Fantastic experience: Sofía was amazing! She exceeded my expectations. Although it felt at first like it was too expensive. You truly do get what you pay for! Watching her process was amazing, she was so accommodating and kind. The tattoo came out SO good! If you’re looking for realism or really anything for that matter, there are a plethora of artists at this place that can do all sorts of pieces. They’re from all walks of life and countries as well which was equally wonderful! Sofía had a light hand and as you can see she mastered a strawberry for the first time ❤️ thank you Sofía hopefully we will cross paths again!

Fantastic experience: While backpacking I decided to take a chance and see if a walk in with a tattoo idea I've had for quite some time was possible. And I am so glad I did. Even with my packed schedule and a flight I needed to catch they were super welcoming and flexible and able to fit me in. The session itself went great and I felt comfortable and involved all the way. My artist, Beri, was so nice and friendly, very attentive, asked all the right questions and had a lot of knowledge and ideas on what could work and what wouldn't. In working with the design she was calm and patient with me and in application certainly an artist taking pride and joy in her work. Very professional and a throughout enjoyable experience. I am so happy with the tattoo and how it turned out! Studio, cleanliness and hygiene is top-notch as you would expect from serious artists. Atmosphere, vibe, creative talks and banter between artists great as well :) Can recommend!

Positive experience: Love my tattoo, and my tattooist was perfectly lovely and friendly, my friend who was with me getting one too however, was treated quite differently. Altho she did leave with the tattoo she wanted and loves.. she was made to feel very uncomfortable by her tattooist was very rude, and made the whole experience really quite unpleasant. Meaning neither of us will go back unfortunately.

Fantastic experience: Went to this tattoo place last year for my first and second tattoos. After the completely postive experience I was absolutely coming back! Came back last week for my fourth and fifth tattoos and was not diappointed! Great artists, vibes and music in this studio - 10/10 would get inked again when I'm coming to Dublin next!!

Fantastic experience: I was a walk in yesterday and had Magdalena. It was a small tattoo so I was not there long but she was awesome and very kind. She did great work as well. The place was nice and clean. Highly recommend!
