Fantastic experience: I went to Zealand Tattoo with a design in mind. Zane liked it but explained that it would need to be slightly redesigned, as over time the fine lines would blend into each other. So I put my full trust in Zane, and he made some small changes which I thought made the image much better! The studio is very clean and tidy. Zane is a very talented artist, who i can’t recommend highly enough. I will definitely see him for my next tattoo.

Positive experience: Had a friendly enquiry/chat with Zane via IG and made a deposit to book an appt for a maori-inspired tattoo. Zane was warm and patient in sharing motif meanings and understanding what I wanted to portray in my tattoo. Once we got the cost and design requirements out of the way, he efficiently sketched out a rough outline on my arm, made sure we're happy with it, and started tattooing. During the process, he made sure I was comfortable with the seating and heating, and also if I needed numbing spray. From our discussions, I trusted Zane enough to leave him to fill in the outline as he envisioned and I love the outcome. Appt was 10:30am, started tattooing around 11:30am, done around 2:30pm. My only gripe would be the booking deposit - Although the booking process was easy, the payment could only be made via PayPal (NZD5 charge) or bank transfer. Would be great if other avenues of payment were available for booking deposit.

Negative experience: Don't go there it is a tourist trap They are overpricing tattoos. I am so angry at them, I never should have stay I was too naive. I frozed when they told me the price (more than 2500 dollars for less than 2hours tattoo !) But I should have run out of this place They even don't explain to you how to take care of you tattoo.... seriously at this price .. They don't help you to imagine a tattoo, no exchange before the meeting , no thinking from the tattooist Really run from there , I should have (The design was changed only 1 .. the other time was just reducing the size with a computer, and it is less than a a4 and a thin not large one)

Positive experience: A very professional studio with talented and award winning artists. I can highly recommend Tom Cabanesas who is a very skilled artist, friendly and humble. Worked for 4 hours without a break to get my tattoo done in time. Very tricky to pull of a realism design of a wave but I’m very proud and happy with my design. The only minor comment I would make that the pricing was a bit vague of knowing more accurately how much the final tattoo would be.

Fantastic experience: It was a super great experience. Already the email support was really good. Very friendly and with many many information. When I got to the studio I was 30 min too early. That was no problem at all. Everyone was talking with me and explaining the process and it was no problem to include my ideas in the Polynesian style design. It just took about 15min for the design (my first free hand design) and another 1,5 hours for the tattoo. Inkee was super focused all the time and he gave me a good feeling while he tattooed. And the result is beyond my expectations. So nicely done. All the things I wanted to have were included and I feel it really fits. Many details and different styles. It is a bit pricy but absolutely worthy the result ☺️ So thanks to Zealand Tattoo and especially Inkee

Fantastic experience: We were visiting NZ for 2 weeks and we loved everything about it. We loved it so much that we wanted to have a permanent souvenir from the trip. We found Zealand tattoo on google and we directly sent an email. The response was so fast and reassuring. We could feel the professionalism. We shared our ideas by email. Eventually when we arrived at the shop we were able to talk to the artist about our wish and they immediately turn into a tattoo. It’s very cool that you can share a lot with the artist before doing it. He gave me the final drawing but I also let him surprise me with some detail. The result was better than expected ! I came with a certain idea of the tattoo but I left with completely different tattoo and it was better than I thought. In conclusion : trust the artist, he knows what he is doing and he doing it perfectly !! Thanks again for everything !!

Negative experience: This place is one of the most unprofessional businesses I have ever had the displeasure of using. It's almost like a scam. I was charged $1500 for 2 hours of tattooing, after multiple attempts to get an idea from them of how they actually charge for their services. They make you pay a deposit and then let you know what the price of the finished tattoo will be after you've paid it and charge you way more than a normal hourly rate ( I reckon its because lots of people don't go back). In my naivety I made another appointment for another session. I showed up for my appointment on time and the shop was shut. I left 2 voicemails and no one bothered to call me back . 5 days later I got the boss Zane on the phone and proceeded to have to listen to a full diatribe from him about his business model, new appointment software, their new premises, and what he ate for dinner the night before. He just kept on talking and talking and talking, and when I tried to talk he just kept talking! It was like as soon as his mouth opened his ears shut off. The upshot was that I ended up pushing the button to disconnect the call as I had things to do that day... His excuse for not being there for my appointment was that 'Inkee' the tattooist, is an artist, and you can't expect an artist to be good at timekeeping! I kid you not! that was his excuse! Inkee was actually in Queenstown, so wasn't even in Christchurch at the time of my appointment. As far as my actual experience with the 2 hours of tattooing went, it was bizarre. Inkee hardly talks. Hes a bit grumpy. I tried to be friendly and strike up a conversation but it didnt work.The whole thing was very very unenjoyable and Im glad Ive made the decision to not go back and have another company finish my tattoo

Fantastic experience: Christchurch branch attended. I rang and they fitted me in within the hour. I have a scar on my back which some are interested to see but I'm not over interested in showing them the whole back. I had a replica of it tattooed onto my wrist. The job was done around 18 months ago and has not faded and remains easily visible. Happy with their work.

Negative experience: *DO NOT GO HERE IN ITS CURRENT STATE IN 2024* They will PREY on any ounce of naivety. The owner will price gouge you to kingdom come ON THE SPOT even with a quote. Zealand tattoos reputation *was* reliant on their amazing artists for a somewhat higher price. Now the artists have left to go other places. and so have the consumers. because all of the amazing artists have left (rightfully so), they have now been left to give extremely underperforming tattoos for still extremely price gouging costs. They did not allow the artists to price their own work. and they were given possibly the lowest commission pay in any tattoo place in nz even for artists that were not even apprentices. Zealand Tattoo has exploited, prided itself and profited off of others work, reputation and art. Zealand Tattoo have shot themselves on the foot and have shown no sign of getting back up. especially with their recent social media apology/Controversy. only go here if you know one of the artists personally. and if they leave, so should you.

Negative experience: I was quoted for 300 but when i came in with my friends the main owner went "nah it looks like $1000 or maybe $1200" price gouging something i already had sorted and was just about to get. all of us in the room including the artist who was doing it were confused and disgusted. Price gouging scammers. Dont go here unless you know one of the artists personally as a friend like i did. They treat their artists horribly. They give them extremely lowball commission pay and dont let them price their own work like most other tattoo places do. And the main owner is a price gouger. Go here for a artist you know, never zealand tattoo itself. It is a stain on the art of tattooing itself and only views it as a means to squeeze money out of their artists work and art.

Went in for a consult and paid my deposit After paying my deposit the agreed estimate of 2k had jumped upto 4.5k Like I get variation but that’s more than double Not my first rodeo as I am already covered in tattoos Basically they said they don’t charge by the hour and charge by the piece which leaves it subject for them to make it out to be whatever price they wanted when I worked out I was going to be paying them $562.50 an hour for the tattoo (we can smash it out in 8 hours) I laughed and walked out They would not return my deposit Absolute joke of a store and a disgrace to the cultural tattooing style of New Zealand

Negative experience: I liked my tattoo but took over 4 hours, and other artists I've spoken to have said it should have been half that, plus they charged me way more than I was first quoted (over double). Wasn't a mindblowing tattoo either. Wouldn't come back here.

Negative experience: Early January this year my Wife and I decided to get matching Japanese tattoos. We did our research and we were sure to get it done until we stepped in and talked with the tattoo artist. My wife ended up second guessing herself regarding the tattoo we had already decided on and at the last minute she changed her tattoo. I was deeply upset about it. It felt like we were made to feel wrong about what we wanted to have tattooed, it felt like we had to grapple our way to that point. I wouldn't get a tattoo from this place again because of his lack of customer service skills. He should have just sticked to making tattoos rather than coming and talking with us. This will always be in my memory that my wife and I came to get similar tattoos and left with different tattoos. Thanks for not a good memory. I'm deeply upset about it and wish I could go back and get it removed as the memory of it has ruined. @bloodyinkee

Negative experience: Incredibly overpriced for what you get. I've been tattooed all over the world and this place is nearly double the price as anywhere else I've been. I got tattooed by Sam and the tattoo turned out quite well & she is a good artist who listens to her clients. For $1,100 (down from an original quote of $1,400!) for a 2hr 45 min tattoo I really wouldn't recommend this shop for value for money.

Negative experience: What an absolute shame. Great artists, great staff, juvenile attitude and rudeness from the owner. The voucher that was purchased for me as a gift is simply a tactic to get you in the door, which is fair enough, it's a business. But it's clear when talking to Zane he has no respect for the customer. Because of him having little to no sales skills and no love for the art itself, he failed in upselling a bigger piece as his logic was absolute nonsense. When he couldn't upsell me he threw his toys out of the cot like a child and then began making snarky remarks regarding the tattoo size which was available for the price the voucher was purchased for ($290 spent = $500 value) If you go here and he begins a long tangent to try and overload you with info that doesn't add up, just eventually zone out like I did and it will be over soon. This review would be 5 stars if it was solely about the staff and artists there. Charlotte the receptionist was incredibly friendly and approachable, super nice lady. Inky the artist who did my piece is incredibly talented and patient with a really chill attitude, great dude. Even the French artist there who I didn't catch her name was very welcoming and nice to chat too.
