The piece was excellently executed from start to finish. I enjoyed the warmth from him and the other artists, and the studio has a cool vibe with many plants (bonus). The studio is in a cool old building, if you're into that kind of thing. Best was the amazing sky view while I was getting tattooed! Will try and book my next appointment during a southerly storm! The place is emaculate, has the highest standards of hygiene, the music and atmosphere were relaxing. The end result was extraordinary.

I was very happy with the way he took my simple line art to another level. He also let me take my own time in deciding the placement and matched it with pin-point accuracy. Fantastic experience: I got tattooed for 4 hours from Sage the resident tattoo artist and loved it :) They were very accommodating and asked many times throughout if i needed anything as well and buying me lunch! The tattoo itself was brilliantly done and exactly how i wanted it, as a freehand! Will definitely come back. Thanks Martin!

Fantastic experience: Lovely shop with great artists. I've had two tattoos there done by Fabian, and they were both pretty challenging tasks (reinterpreting a design done by my 7 year old niece, and the cover up of a pretty nasty scar). Both of these tattoos look fantastic, and were very reasonably priced. He was really willing to work with me on the final design, and is extremely talented. Everyone there is very friendly, and all in all there's just a great vibe. I've gotten quite a few tattoos from quite a few places in my time, and this place is definitely up there for me.

Negative experience: I went to Tattoo Machine with my partner in September 2022. We were both walk in’s getting out first tattoo. We were asked where we were from and it seemed like regular small talk before any prices were mentioned. However looking back it feels like stating we were on holiday from the south island and getting our first tattoos it felt we were taken advantage of. We were charged $200 dollars cash each and told this is the minimum charge for all walk ins even small sized ones. I felt that seemed a bit steep but went with it as my partner was very convinced this is where he wanted to get his. I got the outline of a star which covers a space of maybe 2.5cm by 2.5cm and my partner also got a small tattoo about 5cm by 10cm, both on our inner arms. Shortly after I messaged a different artist from Tattoo Machine on instagram to ask about hourly rates and walk in fees and was told minimum walk in charges were $150. I would have put one star as this has left a very bad impression on me however the experience of actually getting the tattoos was very good. Our artist was professional (ignoring the pricing matter) and explained the after care well and ultimately we had a good experience, especially considering we both have a fear of needles. I’m very disappointed as I feel like we were scammed/taken advantage of which has soured the experience and it has left me not wanting to go back or recommend to anyone else. Overall I am happy with my tattoo but have been put off by the dishonestly.

Fantastic experience: I got 4 tattoos done these last 2 days by 2 of the artists and I am so thoroughly impressed with the team at tattoo machine! Will definitely be back for more tattoos as I absolutely love the ones I got!!

Fantastic experience: Went in as a walk in yesterday and was able to get an awesome Gengar tattoo from Sages’ flash!! It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend to anyone looking for great line work and shading. (Or just a great tattoo in general lol!!) I was only in the area visiting, but if I’m ever in Wellington again I plan on going back for another piece!

Fantastic experience: I've had two Tattoo's here, one from Gill the owner and another from Martin. Both are great to work with and their professionalism was perfect. Both of my Tattoo's from them have had many compliments from people, even being stopped walking around the supermarket! I have absolutely no regrets getting them. My tattoo artist was Spookestuff and he took a lot of time to check with me what I wanted, he made and remade some versions of my originel tattoo on a tablett to get exactly what I want. I really appreciated it, I recommend to go with him for his patience and ampathy !

I did not have an appointment, but could make one for the same day. I paid 150$ for a word of approximately 6 centimeters for one hour work. It’s clean, looks very tidy and everyone is friendly here. Gill is a true artist, working with a lose description and creating something very personal and memorable for me. He was honest in the pain-threshold to expect and helped me mentally prepare for the 4hr experience. I couldn’t be happier with the result. I got greeted as I came to the door and was invited to sit waiting for the artist. Rhys arrived on time and had a lot of drawings to show me. He was super friendly! Rhys made sure I was OK during the entire time I was there. The tattoos were done medicoulously. He tattoos softly compare to a lot of artists I've been tattooed by. Really like my experience here, would recommend.

You said a few times that it took longer than you expected but to me the important thing is the end result which more than met my expectations. I still remember the first couple of times I came to your studio I was nervous as hell as I didn't really know what to expect (even though I'd done a lot of reading about tattooing) but your friendly and relaxed manner quickly put me at ease. Its a great atmosphere at Tattoo Machine and that's a credit to you and the rest of your team for making it that way.

Fantastic experience: I first met Gil in early 2014. From the first email to me coming into the studio I was impressed with Gils professionalism and genuine kind approach. Gils approach to tattooing is very methodical and structured which is exactly what i wanted. 6-7 sesions into the mix i have nothing but kind words to say, what a legend! over the years faces have come and go but the studio always held a welcoming atmosphere with quality yarns and music. Hygiene wise the studio is what you would expect of high quality and craftsmanship. As for the quality of work it is impeccable! the cleanest tattooing I have ever seen in my life. There is some amazing artwork displayed throughout the shop can honestly say Gil is doing the tattoo industry justice in wellington!!!. My only regret is not having my other sleeve done by him :( 10/10

Fantastic experience: I have been going to gill at tattoo machine for the past 7 years. I have never had a problem with the standard or lack of soul in my tattoos. Gill and his team are well known in Wellington and even N.Z for there detail and craftsmanship of there tattoos. I am often approached by strangers and complimented of there work and of course my ink. I always feel welcome and at ease that I am in the hands of professional tattooists. Massive 5 star rating for tattoo machine keep up the good work

Fantastic experience: I have been getting Tattooed by Gill for the last 6 years or so and i keep going back as his workman ship is second to none. The premises are spotless and hygiene is awesome which makes me feel really comfortable. Gill and the crew always have some sick yarns to spin and i enjoy the atmosphere. Negative experience: Gil and tattoo machine are terrible, I imagine that a good experience can often be had when you catch them at the right moment. However on the day I made a simple inquiry I was met with pretension, horribleness and an extreme lack of soul. It seems as though Gil is susceptible to "waking up on the wrong side of the bed", or rather, bringing his home troubles to work with him. Very unprofessional, wouldn't trust such a soulless, moody, pretentious drongo to mark me for life. Not recommended.
