Negative experience: Not sure I’d go back. I went in to replace my nose ring with a stud and paid $100 for a tiny gold stud that is barely bigger than a 12ga backing stem. Not to mention the backing isn’t included in the price and they insist that one of the piercers replace it for you. So, $140 later I have a tiny gold stud that fell out about 2 weeks after buying it.

Fantastic experience: Went into Proper Poke just yesterday to get my septum piercing done with Levi. The lady at the front counter was very helpful in picking which kinds of jewelry I wanted and was very kind. Levi was very professional and gave me thorough aftercare instructions, overall it was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend Proper Poke to anyone in the future!

Fantastic experience: My daughter got her ears pierced and they were absolutely wonderful! Amus was a brilliant piercer with an absolutely Flawless bedside manner. As a former piercer I'm absolutely picky about who touches my family and Amus exceeded all of my expectations which were sky-high to begin with. My daughter was over the moon.

Fantastic experience: I got two koi fish on my forearm, very clean lines and nice shading. The artist was Tatvontam, and the studio was very clean. Tam was very patient and friendly, making for a pleasant experience.

Fantastic experience: Tam (tatvontam) is my favourite tattoo artist. In 20 years of getting tattooed I haven’t met anyone else that is so dedicated to making clients happy. She excels at multiple styles of art from black and grey to American trad. She is happy to make alterations to her work to make the client happy, she flexible with her schedule, and she’s always happy to fit you in when it works for you. I know this city holds a lot of artists, and I’ve seen a lot of artists in my time and Tam is the one who I will go back to time and time again. She makes sure that you are comfortable and feel good about the entire process. You will not regret booking with Tam. If you can dream it, she can make it happen.

Fantastic experience: The first time I walked into Proper Poke I automatically noticed how clean and welcoming the studio was. The staff at the front desk were cheerful and helpful. I have been to PP 4 times in the past year to complete my sleeve with Tam. Right away, I felt a connection with her when I inquired with her about starting/ creating my sleeve. Tam is thorough, precise, knowledgeable, creative, friendly, and so much more! She was very cooperative and understanding when I wanted to make some tweaks to our previous work and also offered her creativity and honesty. Very happy to be showcasing her artwork on my body. Fantastic experience: Tam is hands down my go-to tattoo artist. She’s done a ton of my tattoos, and we’re currently working on a full leg piece together. I usually come in with some sort of idea (sometimes very loose), and every single time she takes it and absolutely knocks it out of the park. I’m definitely an ink addict, and she somehow always manages to fit me in — even last minute. She tattoos quickly (which makes the suffering very minimal), but never at the expense of quality. The end results are always killer. I love her so much and I’m beyond excited to see the finished product of my leg — and whatever comes next after that.

Fantastic experience: I got my lobe piercings done more than a year ago and I am very happy with it. They healed beautifully and I have had zero issues with it. The receptionist and Amus were professional.

Fantastic experience: I had my septum done by Amus and it was awesome. Amus greeted me in the lobby and let me know they were almost ready for me. We spoke about jewelry options, the healing process, the piercing process, and I got to learn about my nose's anatomy. Amus checked-in on me multiple times during the process to ensure I was doing okay. We thought the 8mm would be best for my nose but I ended up finding it too small and Amus simply slipped a 10mm in without fuss. I wasn't made to feel bad for asking for a change, Amus didn't rush me (I was the final appointment of the night) and truly cared that I left looking and feeling good about piercing. Levi sat in on the procedure for training and I knew this before coming in. Levi was also super nice and we all talked about fax machines. I felt relaxed and we were able to joke around so I had zero nerves by the time Amus had finished prepping my nose. Amus was very clear in all their instructions at each step and answered all my questions. I came into the shop feeling awkward/excited/anxious and I left feeling like I left my bestie's house. Negative experience: Beware! I made a downpayment on a piercing but had to delay my appointment. I was not allowed to change it until later and was not given a refund of my deposit. No flexibility, no changes permitted, not a place I will ever go again. - Liisa Montroy

Fantastic experience: Sometimes you walk into a business, meet someone and they feel like someone you've known for a lot longer than just the last few minutes. I'd been toying with the idea of getting my ears pierced for a while and finally settled on Proper Poke as my spot and chose Alyssa as my piercer (piercist?). I couldn't have asked for someone better. She was knowledgeable, kind, laid back and fun to chat with. Amazingly welcome to all of my newbie questions and also does a great job at subtly psyching you up so all of your nerves melt away and you leave the shop feeling like a million bucks. The only problem is that now I want more and Alyssa told me (rightfully of course) that I should probably chill out and wait until the current ones heal.

Negative experience: Horrible experience. Horrible customer service, patronizing and insincere. We needed a passport and birth certificate to get my 15 year old’s ears pierced. I assumed when it said ID needed, they meant mine, the guardian, to secure the appointment. They happily suggested we reschedule when we bring those things, but not without gladly keeping the $50 deposit. Will not be returning.

Negative experience: If your child is getting pierced, they must have 2 pieces of ID, for unclear reasons I might add. If you fail to bring 2 pieces of ID and just bring 1 or none they will turn you away and your $50 booking deposit will not be refunded essentially taking your money for nothing. I absolutely do not recommend

Once to get a rook piercing with Levi, an apprentice piercer (ended up being able to reopen my previous rook piercing which was awesome!) and they were so caring and knowledgeable. I then got my nose piercing changed with Amus who was also amazing and such a vibe. Overall, just a great group of professionals who really know what they’re doing. The jewelry is a bit pricey but you pay for what you get, and the quality of the jewelry is top notch. Also, whoever was working the front desk (cool looking guy idk what his name is) was super helpful when it came to picking the jewelry and was very nice as well :) thanks everyone!

Fantastic experience: I had such a great experience here. Staff were so friendly and very helpful for fitting me in last minute for a total piercing emergency. I did not get pierced here but got my jewelry changed and it was the only reason my piercing done incorrectly at another shop healed. So thankful for all their help and would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic experience with Alyssa! My only prior piercings were done as a kid at the mall, so I wanted to go to a reputable piercing studio for my next one. My friend and I both got a piercing by Alyssa. She was professional, cool and we had such a good time. I got a daith which has since healed perfectly (was done about 3-4 months ago). Would highly recommend coming to a professional studio for any piercings, and would definitely recommend Alyssa.

Fantastic experience: Such a good experience! My brother and I got our nostril pierced by Levi and they were very clear, helpful and informative throughout the whole process. Everything was very sanitary and the environment was very welcoming! I’m glad that the shop was so focused on sustainability and the environment, we would definitely come back again!

In 2022, I got a tattoo from El Woods (who has since moved to a different shop), and more recently, I got my septum pierced by Amus with assistance from their apprentice, Levi. The shop is incredibly clean, and the staff are welcoming, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They made me feel comfortable and well taken care of throughout the entire process. Fantastic experience: The staff here were amazing with my 9 year old daughter, treating her with respect and consideration. Very inclusive environment. Great job with the piercing and great selection of jewellery. If you bring your kid make their appointment with Amus if you can because they are very skilled with kids.

Fantastic experience: I had my forward helix pierced by Alyssa and her service was wonderful! She also assisted me with downsizing an already-there piece of jewelry. She was friendly, knowledgeable and had great technique to keep someone calm when going through something painful! The shop is so clean and the vibes perfect. I will 100% be back.
