Fantastic experience: Kendalyn was absolutely amazing. My best friend and I were walk-ins and they got us in their chair as soon as they possibly could. I gave Kendalyn 5 different reference images, told her what my vision was, and she absolutely nailed it with the end result. She was beyond amazing. My best friend and I got sentimental tattoos and she executed it beyond my vision. She was gentle and light handed, made sure I was okay through out the session, and made me feel extremely comfortable. It was a welcoming environment & the sweetest artists! I will absolutely be back.

Fantastic experience: I had the most perfect experience here!!! Ace was the sweetest person ever and they are so unbelievably talented. It was my first tattoo and I could not have had a better time. Ace was so helpful in giving me advice and walking me through every step they were doing, while making sure i was comfortable the whole time. I came in so nervous and the staff were so incredible in reassuring me. Ace was also the best person to talk to they are the coolest. If you are thinking of getting a tattoo done here, this is ur sign. U will not regret it!!!! Oh and also they have plants growing all throughout the ceiling its insanely awesome.

Fantastic experience: Felix at Birdhouse Tattoo did an incredible job on my tattoo! We worked together to create the design, and he was patient through all my tweaks and suggestions until it was just perfect. We did black line and color, and when the colors didn't quite heal the way I wanted, he did a touch up for me for free. I'm so happy with the way it's healed now!

But they went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and heard throughout my whole appointment. Fantastic experience: I got my first tattoo here a few weeks ago with artist Nic Mackin, and it was one of my best experiences with body modification. I now have three small manta rays on my ribs, and I'm absolutely in love with them. I've only gotten piercings before, so my experiences with tattoos was limited at best, and I was anxious, but Nic was incredible to work with. I had a custom design in mind and they did an excellent job translating it to paper, and ultimately, my skin. They were so reassuring during the tattoo itself, and made sure I understood exactly what was happening at each step in the process. They knew exactly when to offer advice and their opinions and when to step away, and I really appreciate their help with the exact placement of my tattoo. I couldn't be happier with it, and if you're looking for an artist, I would 100% recommend Nic!

I brought a conceptual design and they helped me to refine it and work out scale and placement in a way that massively improved the final outcome. I'll be back!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been to birdhouse tattoo 3 times now. I’ve had an amazing experience all 3 times. Dre (@freckled.roses) is so inviting, accommodation, and so talented I love the art they have done for me! The shop is so cute, well decorated, clean, and I love all the plants. I have an upcoming appointment with Nic (@mackinsmind) I love the flash they have released really cute floral line work. The pricing varied between artists but it has been affordable for me. This is my go to shop in Portland and I intend to continue coming here!

Fantastic experience: This review is long overdue, but I’m grateful I waited to write it. I’ve now had this beautiful piece of artwork on my body for 5 months. I don’t have many tattoos, and this one was both my largest and most visually striking — and truly life-changing. Fantastic experience: I had always wanted a tattoo, but I waited for quite some time until I could find the right artist. I searched through so many profiles and shops until I found Nic Makin! They had such an amazing portfolio across multiple styles, but I was really drawn to their suminagashi pieces that incorporated nature. I knew I had found the artist I could trust with my garden sleeve. They were so supportive after I booked the initial appointment while listening to my overall plan, and they seemed genuinely excited after talking it all out. I told Nic I trusted them completely and they knocked the first piece out of the park. I’ve already got the second appointment on the books and cannot wait to be able to show off Nic’s amazing work to the world.

Fantastic experience: Best, most welcoming and fun vibe I've ever experienced in a tattoo shop. Truly have never felt more comfortable in any other shop. Alia Bird's work is always a triumph. She's unbelievably talented and such a beautiful human to hang with. I've gotten a lot of tattoos from her over the last 7ish years and the ones by her have all healed beautifully. She so reliably exceeds expectations every time I get a tattoo from her. And the other people working in Birdhouse are soo cool! I had such a wonderful time looking around at all the artists interacting with clients and each other. Andrew, in particular, was extremely fun to talk to. If you're a Lord Of The Rings fan, he's the best person you'll ever meet to talk to about it. Such an unforgettable place in the best way possible!

Fantastic experience: Got my first (picture attached) and now working on second tattoo here. Super kind, super professional, awesome people. I was so nervous walking in for the first and Sarah made it such an easy process and walked me through everything, stenciling, comfort during, and after care. Now, I'm working with Astro Ally on a piece that looks AMAZING even after just one session and super excited to see it finished. Can't recommend enough, especially as someone who was timid for so long.

Fantastic experience: me and my wife were in Portland for a couple weeks visiting family. my wife's been out west before but it was my first time. we spent literally the whole trip with family and the day before we left we randomly had some free time and someway somehow we landed on getting tattoos lol. my wife just got her first tattoo a year ago to the day, and was ready to add her next bit. I have a decent amount of tattoos so I was more concerned with finding a shop that would be great for her and I'd figure out my own stuff. this shop deserves every 5 star it gets. first off it's beautiful, and secondly everyone was super accommodating. they took us as walk-ins. electric.kitten (Danielle) had my wife and drew my wife's design up right then and took her vague description and made exactly what my wife wanted. I chose a flash of a pinup boy but unfortunately the artist that owned that design was booked up. I was bummed because he was the artists that focuses more on my style so it meant I wouldn't get tattooed. but the shop owner came up to me and asked me to describe what I wanted and he called historic tattoo which is the like holy land of ameri trad in that area. they said yeah send em over! so lil 5 min drive later I was getting my head tattooed as a walk in at a new shop all because of the kindness and accomodations of birdhouse tattoo. my wife and I have made plans to make it tradition to visit family and stop by the shops to get some work added once a year. I've never planned tattoos that involve a flight and thousands of miles lol but this place is something special

It was my mom’s first tattoo, and Alia could not have been lovelier, more gentle, or more accommodating. Her work is stunning! The shop is so beautiful too, like being in a fancy coffee shop or spa. I found them off tiktok and the atmosphere was incredible! Filled with plants, Art and super super friendly people! I spoke with Treger (may have misspelled, my apologies!) And he was very very kind! We also chatted with Ally and got to see everyone's incredible work! I then spoke with Will who was available to do my tattoo and he was so funny and kind and the process was super smooth! Very light handed and incredible work! I love my tattoo and I can't wait to come across the country again to visit!!!

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough about this studio and my artist, Jamison. This was my second tattoo since my first 10 years ago. My piece had the potential to be fairly complex, and I was little concerned about how it might turn out. But Jamison expertly guided my through the design process, exhibited admirable patience while we trial-and-errored our way to finding the best placement, and absolutely nailed the execution. While lying on the table for 5 hours near the main door, I got to see other clients, most of them walk-ins, come in and get top quality customer service. The studio is welcoming, and the staff all friendly and genuine.

Negative experience: Disastrous communication. Sent in a request form almost a month ago to get a tattoo, and never heard anything back. When I called, someone named Chris was very nice and offered to get my ask squared away. Texted to get my name and email and said they would get to work on it “in 30 minutes” when they were in front of their computer. Never heard anything after that and it’s been several days. I frankly don’t understand how people get appointments booked here; I had several very good friends of mine recommend this spot. I’m disappointed.

They were able to fit me in the next day and were so patient to work with me to perfect each element of the design. They have beautiful energy and I’m grateful to wear their art. Highly recommended for fine line art and collaborative design approach.

Fantastic experience: This was the best tattoo experience my wife and I have ever had. My wife suggested getting tattoos for date night, and sent me this shop. Looking at the pics, I was like, "this place looks a lot nicer than the places I used to frequent on Powell..." It did not disappoint. Our artist Astor was fantastic. She was professional and personable, her work was awesome, and was actually appreciative of our business. This latter point has not always been the case for my wife and I's body art journies. The space was immaculate, well-lit, and adorned with plants like something on r/cozyplaces. We were greeted by everybody who was free, and they all made sure we were attended to. Like the 40-something dad I am, I called them three hours or so before they opened, and to my astonishment the owner texted me back. They immediately took my request, and arranged a same-day appointment, and checked in to make sure things were going as expected. By the end we were all laughing about how awesome tattoos are like some Portland version of people who've just finished a tough mudder run. 12/10 go get your next tattoo here.

Fantastic experience: Had the best experience getting my first tattoo, the walk in process was superrrr easy and was matched with an artist right away (get there early) my artist was Liz and they were so so so kind and welcoming. Not only was it my first tattoo but also a memorial tattoo for my late childhood pet. So glad I had it done by such a talented artist! Will definitely be coming back.

I really appreciate the individual talent of each artist and the humility to suggest another one if they don’t feel confident that their style aligns with your request. Whenever anyone asks for a place to go, I say birdhouse without hesitation. Nic is super chill and does amazing line work. Danielle can do the absolute best script. Phoenix color theory and ultra realism is incredible. Each time I work with a new artist I find myself looking forward to a good experience and being able to appreciate their individual style and perspective.

I picked one of his original designs—a badass lich wizard—and it turned out even better than I imagined. Derek was super professional, friendly, and made the whole experience easy and fun. We totally hit it off chatting about D&D. His linework and shading are top-tier, and the design has so much personality. I highly recommend Derek. Can’t wait to come back for my next piece!

Fantastic experience: i had booked in advance and my artist was so friendly and wonderful both over email and in person!! my tattoo looks amazing and i was given detailed instructions on care and even extra second skin. Ace is a rockstar!!!

Fantastic experience: I got this goose tattoo from Michelle (first pic right after, second pic 4 weeks healed) and had an amazing experience! Michelle drew up an idea from some reference pictures, sent it to me a couple days before so I could look it over, and had several sizes ready for me to choose from when I arrived. She was kind and accommodating, and does absolutely fantastic work. I’d recommend her and this shop to anyone looking for a new tattoo.

Fantastic experience: Alia did an amazing job on my tattoo. She really took the time to make me feel comfortable and made sure I was happy with the sizing and placement. She also made sure to confirm my budget so there were no surprises later. This is the second tattoo shop I have been too and I have been avoiding them due to the last shop making me uncomfortable. I had a great time at Birdhouse and really enjoyed it. Alia did a great job making sure I understood the after care process and answered any questions I had. I drove over an hour for this tattoo and it was totally worth it! I will be back for another!!

Negative experience: i was over charged for what the tattoo i had gotten.. the line work is so messy and i had shown my tattoo to other tattoo artist and they too have said i should not have paid the amount that i did for the way the tattoo came out to be. other than that the place is very nice and welcoming. just shouldn't have been charged that much. (wouldn't let me reply but i don't gave the same last name on my google acct anymore probably why i didn't show up lol)
