Fantastic experience: I have never written a review for anything before but in this case felt compelled to. All of the staff were super friendly and the faculty was super clean. Max is a true artist who has the capability to transfer his artwork onto a human canvas. I was amazed watching him work and the end result was perfection. Five stars is not enough for Max.

Negative experience: I emailed the shop a week in advance, specifically asking for a lower naval piercing. When my friend and I arrived at my appointment, the piercer was 45 minutes late. Once she finally arrived, she didn't acknowledge us and disappeared to the back for another 45 minutes. We would not have even known she was there had the tattoo artist not told us she was the piercer. Finally, we decided to look for her to let her know we were here for our appointment, and some other lady saw us and said she would "be right with us." After being there for an hour and a half, the piercer informed us that she did not have the correct jewelry for the piercing we had specifically made an appointment to get! Very disappointing experience! Wasted an hour and a half of our time plus gas!

Fantastic experience: I had an old tribal that I wanted to cover up for 20 yrs. Wasn't sure if it would be possible. Max did a phenomenal job at covering it up with an owl. I love it. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking to get a new tattoo.

Negative experience: I had a disappointing and costly experience with Cain at Human Canvas. I came in with specific fine line tattoo references, which he claimed to be experienced in. I later learned he’s only been tattooing for less than two years—something he never disclosed. He promised to send custom artwork before my appointment but never did. On the day of, he claimed I was scheduled for the following week and threw together a last-minute design that looked nothing like what I requested. I was charged for 4 hours, including time spent prepping and printing stencils—not just tattooing, as he originally stated. After a second session with little improvement, I canceled my final appointment and asked for a refund of my deposit. He ignored my texts, calls, and never followed up. Now I’m spending $2,000 to remove what he did so a skilled artist can fix it. Do your homework. Don't be fooled by confidence that isn’t backed by skill or integrity. I wouldn’t recommend Cain to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Woodrow did my tattoo and I couldn’t be more satisfied. This was my first tattoo I had a broad idea of what I wanted but didn’t have any design so he recommended started with a planning day where we got a good grasp of what I wanted to get and a layout of the design. The next session we did about 2 more hours of designing before starting the tattoo. After a while of convincing my mom to let me get a tattoo she was shocked with how good it looked and it wasn’t even done. After my second session my mom and I both were very impressed with the detail and the polish done to the tattoo. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Fantastic experience: Woodrow is the most talented cover-up artist I've ever seen! ... I had an old, poorly executed and large piece on my arm that needed skilled help, but for years any other 'cover-up' artists cringed when they saw it. They offered dense, complex things I had no interest in. The original sketch has meaning, I don't want it blacked out. Needless to say, when Woodrow confidently began sketching and planning a gorgeous facelift of my poorly done sketch, I immediately felt confident of his abilities. Not only is he a brilliant artist (go check out his paintings!), he brings that accomplishment to the tattoo studio. He truly cares that his tattoos are exactly what his clients want and feel comfortable with, physically and emotionally. Now I am beyond THRILLED to have a masterpiece in progress on my arm!!! I have received countless compliments, and cannot believe how beautiful and happy the new ink has made me feel. Go to Woodrow at Human Canvas, you won't regret it. It's one of the best things I've done for myself in a long time. (Written about 75% way through the whole cover up process, see various stage pictures!) Edit: completely forgot to add that Woodrow designed the sleeve concept around the cover-up.

I got something for my sons dad who passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. My artist was Abby and she did exactly what I asked for from the picture I uploaded, she was so so nice. Her attention to detail, creativity, her artistic abilities-not to mention her personality and kindness… she def made sure that the tattoo told my girl’s story.. she was patient and soo nice when madi needed a minute or a break. He has also been accommodating to my work schedule, which is essential for me, as I have a very rigid schedule. Fantastic experience: We were on a trip to see the groundhog and got tattoos for my friend’s birthday which falls on groundhogs day. Cain was very friendly and was respectful of what we wanted. He did a great job on the tattoo. The only thing I wish was different is when I ask if he was going to use new skin he said he didn’t use that. It would have been nice to not have to worry about it until I returned home. All in all I had a great experience and I would definitely get work done by him again!

Negative experience: definitely worth a read if you’re looking for cybersigilism/newgen tattoos I got my first ever tattoo done by max. several months ago. i waited for it to heal before writing my review. I had called the shop up asking if they had any artists who were able to do cybersigilism, and i was asked to come in after sending some reference pictures. I was on the fence about the content of the tattoo, but very certain of the style i wanted, which i repeated to my artist over and over again. He saw a grim reaper in one of the pictures, and decided that’s what we were doing, which i was okay with. he said he would “incorporate” the style i wanted, which… you can’t do. you cannot “incorporate” a style, it just is or isn’t the style. he told me that without solid outlines, the tattoo will look bad (take that, realism artists!!) i was a little turned off by that, but i was reassured that id have a few drawings to pick from when i came in from my appointment. a $100 deposit (and $200 cancellation fee) later, and im locked in on getting this tattoo. on the day of my appointment, i showed up a half hour early and waited an hour to speak with my artist. he showed me a single outline, and asked if i was ready to go. with this being my first tattoo, i was nervous and just said yes without questioning his work. the outline looked fine. the problem comes with his shading, and technique. i’ve had several tattoos since, and all of them have been much, much better (and cheaper.) his shading came out god awful, and you honestly can’t recognize where the scythe starts and ends. the skull (which was not in any of the references, attached below) looks really messed up. like it has a cleft lip or something. as far as poor technique, he blew out a lot of my lines. he was extremely rough, and it was the most painful of all my tattoo healing experiences. overall, max went into this tattoo with a very big ego and promised me something he’s not capable of, which is why i called the shop to ask about this specific style in the first place. i know he’s capable of good work, and i’ve seen it. but he gave me a terrible tattoo and didn’t listen to me at all. every artist i’ve gone to since, has looked at it and apologized for max. with 20+ years of experience, you should know when you’re in over your head. you made a quick buck on me and you know it. shady and egotistical practice, and an awful first experience. i’ve looked through the reviews and seen how you respond to negative comments. there is nothing you can do to fix it, and i will not return to your shop. this review is strictly to warn those looking to get the style i wanted from max. the only reason this is a two star review, is heather (the manager/front desk) was exceptionally kind and made sure i was okay while receiving the tattoo. below is the tattoo i received, and the references i sent. mine is the one with the skull, the ones without are the references.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love Human Canvas More specifically, ABBY! ! I have had two tattoos and they were my first ones and it was the best experience. She is so open to hearing your ideas and making the experience very comfortable. After a year Abby did a small touch-up to my first tattoo, which to be honest still looked so good even without a touch up! Abby's line work is amazing and I get so many compliments on my tattoos. I would recommend this shop and Abby to anyone and everyone who is looking to get a quality tattoo with a personable experience! I can't wait to get more!

Fantastic experience: I went to Abby for linework of two tattoos on my legs. I felt so comfortable with Abby and the in the studio. Everyone there, artists and clients, had a really chill and friendly energy. I'm not blessed with a high pain tolerance for tattoos, but Abby was patient and always understanding. I'm looking forward to the shading on my tattoos in 2025!

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Human Canvas by a friend in 2022 and returned in 2024 for a completely separate tattoo. Every artist in the shop has their own style of tattooing to offer. From the consult setup to the last session, the process is made fun and stress free. Serena completed my newest piece and was an absolute gem to work with. She created my vision and put extra effort into making it perfect. She was able to put her own style of tattooing into the work of art. The compliments I have received on the large piece are endless already! The atmosphere at Human Canvas cannot be compared to other shops. I will forever drive out of my way to use this shop for any tattoos in the future. Every employee is energetic and happy to be there. I feel comfortable the second I walk into the door of this clean facility. If you are new to tattoos or well seasoned, this is the best place to use! Thank you Serena for bringing my mother’s memorial piece to life for me to cherish forever!

Fantastic experience: Definitely recommend! I really wanted to get a memorial piece done for my father on the 20th anniversary of his death and when I reached out last minute they fit me in! Everyone was so nice when I showed up and I had a great experience with Serena for my first tattoo. I absolutely love it and I will be back!

Negative experience: My experience with the piercer was absolutely horrific. This girls hands and body were shaking the entire time and she dropped the jewelry at least 3 times. All I needed her to do was replace jewelry in my double helix that fell out and she completely wrecked my ear. I had to ask her to stop because she was pulling on my ear and hurting me so bad, I left mid appointment with a bloody and swollen ear. I will never go back here ever again. I wouldn’t even give her 1 star. Honestly a safety concern and she should not be piercing anyone! I’m absolutely shocked at this experience that should not have been so bad.

Fantastic experience: Woodrow is an amazing artist that delivered an excellent experience at The Human Canvas. In fact, all the team members there were all super nice, friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to my scheduled future sessions with Woodrow to finish my sleeve. Woodrow went straight to work and did 4 hours straight tattooing. Fantastic experience: Max did my fine line wave tattoo on my rib cage… amazing work.. would go to again! Just requested another appointment so I can go to this shop again and try a different artist or have Max again.

Positive experience: Amazingly talented artists, very welcoming atmosphere. My biggest complaint is that the first tattoo I got there, Iwas quoted a price, but after I got it the price went up nearly three times the amount and it took an hour longer than estimated. Be sure to confirm hourly rate of your artist and estimated time to complete the work. The tattoo itself looks perfect! Second visit was absolutely perfect!

Negative experience: The tattoo studio is nice and clean. I had Cain as my artist. I live over an hour away and had to come in for a 5 minute consult. The only question regarding my tattoo was the size. I had already sent in pictures of what I wanted to get (see attached) and I didn’t want to change from that design. I put my cash deposit down and scheduled to get the tattoo 3 weeks from the consult date. I show up for my appointment about 10 minutes early. I had to wait in the waiting area for over an hour and a half due to Cain still having to draw up the tattoo in the back. The $350 outline of the tattoo was good but was not fine line. It healed up nice. While I was heading to the second appointment two weeks later for Cain to shade in the healed outline, he had something come up and asked if I could reschedule. I won’t be back.

Fantastic experience: I came to Human Canvas looking for something to remember my mom who passed many years ago. They introduced me to Abby and she was wonderful!! She took the time to consult with me and even gave me input. The day of the appointment she took her time in placement and never made me feel like she was in a hurry. Iam very happy with the end results and definitely will be back to see her.

Fantastic experience: I had the linework for a black and gray tattoo done by EJ here at human canvas. He was amazing to work with. The design was beautiful, and the actual tattoo process ej helped me through as it was in a painful spot that was also hitting nerves causing my muscles to twitch. And the tattoo STILL came out PERFECTLY. Thank you so much to EJ...I know it was a tough one to get through, but he did he best not to make me feel bad about it and overall I had a great experience! They also brought me snacks and drinks throughout and made sure I was well taken care of. I can't wait to go back to get the shading done!

Fantastic experience: Six weeks ago, I had the incredible honor of getting a memorial tattoo for my best friend who passed away at the young age of 44 after battling cancer. I was surrounded by an amazing group of girls who loved her just as much, if not more, than I did. Each of us chose unique designs that reminded us of her and the beautiful moments we shared together. For me, it was a pineapple with oversized sunglasses. Inside the sunglasses, you can see the silhouette of palm trees and the beach—her favorite place to be. Every time I look down at it, I smile and tell myself she’s just on vacation and will be back soon. She was my best friend, my Bae, and I’ll miss her forever. A huge shout out to the Human Canvas Staff, especially Woodrow Wilson Cowher, for being not only incredibly talented but also wonderfully accommodating to our group. They helped us spend a heartfelt day together, supporting each other and remembering a wonderful human being who touched all our lives deeply. 10/10 recommend—Go check them out!
