Negative experience: I wanted to wait until I got my tattoo fixed before I made this review because I was so upset. I did a walk in with my friends and I wanted a small clapboard on my arm. Jorge was assigned to do it. At first he gave me a giant stencil and I asked him to size it down. He said “boo!” but did it anyway. Then he proceeded to rush through the tattoo and it was the sloppiest one I’ve ever gotten. I’ll post my before and after here. The 2 stars are for the other kind artists I encountered and my friends both got tattoos they were happy with so there’s that.

Fantastic experience: I got a super cute dinosaur done by Mark. Him and Jade were so sweet. I love my little dino. It's perfect. This place is great. Everyone is super nice and professional, and it's clean and has a great vibe.

Fantastic experience: Came in as a walk-in on 1/1/26, though my friend and I called prior asking about availability and the gentleman was very kind and welcoming over the phone. When my best friend and I arrived it was such a great vibe in the shop! We were greeted by Ronald and his Apprentice, he gave us the run down and explains, shows you everything he does. And creates a beautiful piece of art WITH you. I was also a walk-in requesting an entire panel haha he was all in, no doubt about it! He is light handed and helps you converse and take breaks through the experience. I was not able to finish because of my own tolerance, however I cannot wait to go back!! He explained a thorough aftercare procedure, and wants me to return for the final product once it’s healed! When most artists want you to return when the skin is still raw.(ouch) James is another artist who did my friends piece. He is so kind and did incredible work! She loves it! Thank you Ronald and James! Definitely come here if you are looking for a new artist!

Fantastic experience: Been going here for years and have nothing but good things to say and a great experience. Mark is one of the best artist and super chill to be around he makes the process of getting a tattoo both chill and exciting and he’s always coming up with new ideas if you want to get more. I can’t wait to finish up the one we are working on now and start the next one. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for some new ink regardless of how many tattoos they have.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going here for a few years now and it’s a great tattoo studio. Very clean and the artists are all knowledgeable and friendly. Fantastic experience: The artists here are next level! Take this from a person who has spent over 80 hours in the chair with Mark Tierney. His creativity is impressive, and his tattooing skills are fantastic. Not to mention excellent taste in music. Everyone I've encountered working here are great people!

Negative experience: I have tried more than once to get a walk in tattoo here-they are never open their posted hours, appeared to be closed 2 hours earlier than advertised on a Friday night. Very frustrating.

Fantastic experience: Decided on an impulse tattoo on my visit from SoCal a stumbled across this amazing little tattoo shop. My brother were in and out in less than 2 hours with bad ass designs and even better energy. Come to find out both our tattoo artists are from California just like us, and we practically followed each other to the local Steelers game that evening. If you’re looking for a good shop with good vibes, this is definitely the one. Thank you so much to Jorge who gave me this bad ass coverup on my arm, also. With the tattoo running onto my hand from my wrist he was as gentle as he could have been while still giving me incredible results. Next time I’m back in Pittsburgh I will definitely have to stop in. Jade designed my dream tattoo better than I could have imagined and brought the idea to life in a tangible way perfectly. It was my first tattoo and she made the entire experience feel so comfortable, safe, special, and magical. Jade is just absolutely incredible to work with and I’m so happy my first tattoo was from her. The shop itself is in a great location and is wonderful! Everyone we interacted with was kind and made the day such a positive experience. My sister & I absolutely love our tattoos, loved the experience, and will absolutely be back for our next ones.

Fantastic experience: Was there last weekend and it was such a great experience! It was my sister's first tattoo, and Jade was SO amazing to make sure my sister was comfortable throughout the entire process and did her dream tattoo so beautifully! This was my second tattoo by Jade, and it's just as amazing as my first with her! She really cares about you, the experience and does such beautiful work. And the shop was so nice!! Everyone there was welcoming and professional and just such a great experience all around. We not only love our tattoos, but absolutely enjoyed the whole time we were there. Negative experience: Liss gave me my first piercing, and was super patient with me the whole time. Incredibly friendly, and honestly, hilarious! However, I subsequently got a tattoo there that wasn’t healing very well, and i wasn’t as pleased with the artwork as I’d originally hoped. Likely will not return.

Negative experience: I got my first ever tattoo with Jorge just over a year ago instead of going to Point Park Orientation… everything went pretty smoothly and it only hurt really bad at times. The wobbly lines are from what he said “me shaking because of how tense I was”… but after healing, I scarred and blew out. Will be getting a different artist next time.

Fantastic experience: Worked with Ronald and was nervous coming in but he was able to lighten my mood and it made it so much better love this place and love my new tattoo

Fantastic experience: In Pittsburgh for a work conference and stopped in on a very impromptu whim and asked if they could help downsize my new philtrum piercing that was starting to annoy me that I got done by another piercer local to me. Aleksandr was just about to leave for the day when I stopped in and helped me right away. He was very kind and professional. Appreciated his willingness to help on such a short notice.

Negative experience: I sadly had a bad experience with Jorge at black horizon tattoo. My husband and I got initials for our anniversary while in Pittsburgh. When arriving we filled out our online forms and I looked over portfolios and chose River as my artist, they had some pieces posted that aligned with the finer style I liked. I expressed I like a fine line like my existing tattoos and don’t mind getting touch ups, Jorge told me that tattoos shouldn’t need a touch up and pointed to an existing tattoo I have and said “you don’t want it to look like that”… yeah I actually do. He ended up telling me I won’t be tattooed by River but by him as he has more experience with fine line, I was worried but I just trusted his professional opinion and didn’t argue that. 2 days later I took my second skin off and immediately noticed it was a bit blown out, and worried that as it healed that would worsen (it has). River did take my husband, and his looks great! Thank you to River. He wouldn’t have cared as much as I though if it came out differently, so I do wish our original artists we chose on the legal consent form was honored. I would’ve preferred to have been declined or referred to someone else if this wasn’t something he thought he could deliver, I know not every artist does fine line and I understand that. I did reach out directly to Jorge through email on my experience but unfortunately got no response.

Fantastic experience: I’ve gotten pierced at Black Horizon by Alek 6 times over the last 2 months: Mirrored Nostril 8G hole punch gauges Mirrored middle eyebrow Normally piercing is a nerve racking experience, I’ve been getting pierced for 20 years and that feeling never leaves. That was until I met Alek. He is the most professional piercer I’ve dealt with to date. He makes you feel comfortable, checks on you before, during and after, and most importantly he doesn’t leave you in the dark, just tells you exactly what’s going to happen and when. He gives proper aftercare instructions and makes sure you leave feeling comfy and with the best fitting jewelry. If you’re looking for a piercing Black Horizon is the place to go to get them accurately placed and decently priced.

Also just very nice to talk to which was a nice distraction from the pain . Hooked me up with an ankle forearm and lip tattoo-and even offered to touch up the lip tattoo as it fades. 100% would recommend and will be back again!

Fantastic experience: Came in for a walk in, and every artist there was absolutely incredible. Everyone we had interacted with was polite, respectful, and personable. They took time to make sure our designs were what we wanted, and even as walk in clients we both still felt prioritized and cared for. My fiancé was getting his first tattoo and had a negative reaction, due to low blood sugar not the shop’s fault, and needed a break as a result. The shop was more than accommodating throughout the situation and went above and beyond for him. Overall, recommend Black Horizon to anyone and everyone. They were very courteous and kind. Through with their time and attention to detail, and quick! Perfect for first timers and those who have multiple tattoos already. :)

Fantastic experience: My son and I dropped in for a spur of the moment tattoo. The shop has an awesome vibe and we felt welcomed and at home right away. We were able to both get a piece done. Disco Moth @discomothink was able to create a great sketch based on my very vague idea and it turned out great. I’ve had multiple compliments already and look forward to finding time for another. She was super nice and friendly with good conversation while doing the ink. Definitely recommend her and the shop.

This is my first ever tattoo and I was really nervous but I wanted to honor my lost pups and more specifically the first one I actually was present for to be put to sleep. I went to Jade Tierney with existing tattos on my arm and asked her to work her magic to make it a beautiful sleeve completely her choice... and let me just say she... did... NOT... disappoint! It's my new favorite tattoos. I have also done their flash events on several occasions with several artists and can honestly say you can't go wrong with any of them they all have amazing conversation and bedside mannor. They even give great food recommendations! Haha

Fantastic experience: My buddy Jacob works at Black Horizon Tattoo I’m friends with his brother who told me where he was working and once I knew he was back in the area I HAD to have him work on me he’s an amazing artist and phenomenal tattooer and person! Not only was I super late from life and mom stuff + family emergency things arising I also had a 90 minute trip to see him and he STILL made sure to rearrange his day, schedule, as well as other clients to get me in which barely anyone does so that in itself shows the level of service this shop has. The shop itself is pristine and legit badass it’s gorgeous and massive I want to put a mattress in there and just live & hang lol, but seriously, it’s beautiful and so clean, organized as well as they are super professional welcoming and friendly there. I spoke to three or so other artists there and they were all so nice, cheery and positive which to me is a major plus and makes you feel more comfortable. All in all I have only great things to say about this shop so if you want a tattoo or piercing I’d highly recommend you checking out Black Horizon they kickass and you won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic experience: We found Jade on instagram not too long ago looking for an artist to do a cybersigilism piece. Her work was absolutely phenomenal! After my boyfriend getting that piece, I decided to get a piece from her! From the very first time we went in, I felt extremely comfortable. I usually have anxiety from the city, but as soon as I step foot in there, it all goes away. Everyone is so kind and friendly. Fantastic experience: We stopped in for some lunch time piercings as a pick me up and could not have had a better experience! Liss is not only a phenomenal piercer but an amazing person!!! I let her do whatever she wanted on my ear and I could not be happier!! Beautiful jewelry selection and even more gorgeous ear to show off!! Such a great environment and I can’t recommend Liss enough!!! I will be back (soon)!!!

Fantastic experience: I could not have had a better experience than with Jade!!!! I had gotten a beautiful moth with some floral details and cute little moon! I gave her a bit of creative freedom when designing and she absolutely nailed it by giving me a piece that matches my darker style while keeping it delicate and beautiful! We were able to split it into 2 sessions, one for line work and one for shading! I’m obsessed with how it came out and will absolutely be returning!!!

Fantastic experience: Very nice and warm people when I visited the shop. It was easy to get checked in. My artist was a whole vibe and super sweet! I consider myself an introvert, but Jade was very easy to chat with and I can't wait to book more tattoos with her for the rest of my sleeve. As for my tattoo, I only had a rough idea of what I wanted and she helped bring it to life in an amazing way. Loved the designs and it was overall a nice time.
