From the moment I walked in, Ian brought this calm, grounded energy that instantly made the whole process feel comfortable and meaningful. He took the time to understand the symbolism I wanted, respected the personal context behind it, and translated it into something even more precise and intentional than I imagined. The linework is unbelievably clean — sharp geometry, perfect symmetry, and steady detail in every stroke. It honestly looks like it was printed onto my skin. Ian’s technical skill is obvious, but what stood out even more was his patience, communication, and care. He checked in at every stage, adjusted the design thoughtfully, and made sure the placement flowed naturally with my arm. This tattoo wasn’t just “art”; it was something personal I’ll carry for the rest of my life, and Ian honored that with the level of respect an artist should have for someone’s story. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or a better person to trust with it. Negative experience: Booked a tattoo over dm with Ian (@notokaytattoos) last week of July, appointment scheduled for September 5th. A week after I sent the original reference photos, on August 5th, I ended up changing my mind and sent another photo/idea instead. I made sure that Ian would still be comfortable doing the second design rather than the first, which he let me know he was. Today when I came for my appointment, after already signing the consent form, he walked me back to his station and informed me he doesn’t feel he’s the right artist for this piece. He explained it was because the second design was more realism instead of graphic (as the first idea had been), and recommended Taylor to tattoo me instead. He also let me know he’d be returning my deposit as well. Rather than arguing or saying anything back, I just nodded my head and left politely. I respect that he felt like he couldn’t provide me with the tattoo I was looking for, and I appreciate that he recommended a fellow artist in the shop; however, this really was not a good way to handle this type of situation. Taylor wasn’t even in the shop today so I couldn’t actually speak to her to see if she wanted to do the tattoo herself instead. Waiting until the last minute to voice his concerns with me, saying he was thinking about the tattoo last night and this morning is quite disappointing... There was a month’s time prior in which Ian could have contacted me to come into the shop or chat over the phone and discuss possible options. I’m really upset by how nonchalantly and dismissively he treated this appointment cancellation…it was quite selfish as he did not consider my feelings/thoughts/opinions before sending me out the door. A lot of effort and planning goes into booking a tattoo appointment, on top of saving the money to pay for it, arranging a means of transportation, etc. I wasn’t actually given the opportunity to make my own decision about it either and he didn’t show me any sketch or rough idea of what he could do instead. I’ve never had this experience before in a tattoo shop so I’m quite surprised. I understand I changed my mind and he thought I wouldn’t be happy with his tattooing, but that’s not the problem I have with this interaction. It’s the fact that I was cancelled on the day of, and time of, and recommended to another artist I couldn’t physically speak to. Just overall negative experience considering the positive reviews and talent these artists have :/

Negative experience: went to snow's flash tattoo one day popup at harmony in uptown waterloo, but i was just a second too late because he was fully booked. told me to dm him the code word 'superman' so i could book a date and get it done in studio instead for the same flash tat and $50 pricing. took him a couple days to reply, asked for some times, and when i did, he never replied. i went to the night and ink website and tried booking through a form there, and never got anything back.

Negative experience: I have been to this studio a few times now, and up until my previous experience every-time has been great! I recently came in for two very tiny tattoos (one being a bit of a personalized piece). I left paying 300.00 plus a 20% tip for two very tiny tattoos. Original quote was 290.00, which I thought was pretty steep to begin with, but maybe upon arrival would be reduced considering the artist be aware of how small the tattoos were, but to my surprise it was actually increased after the work was done. I thought this price was a bit much, but left decently satisfied with the pieces. I left my 2nd skin on for 4 days, and once taking it off realized my one tattoo had a break in the line, it was not filled out. Considering the price I paid, and it not even being a week, I messaged the artist and asked if I could come in for a touch up. No response. I waited a week to follow up. No response again. Everytime I’ve messaged snow it’s been an instant reply. Except this time. And even more so, I always messaged when “active” on Instagram. Furthermore, he has posted and been active since then. For reference this was back in April. I still haven’t heard back to this day. I’m incredibly disappointed with the lack of professionalism & accountability. I’ve talked to other artists in the industry, and I’ve repeatedly been told that this was WAY above and beyond what I should have paid considering the pieces. Not only that, but the avoiding my polite message about a touch up…Very disappointing.

Fantastic experience: I just got my second tattoo here from Jamie and am so so pleased! She is an extremely talented, kind and creative professional - I would not hesitate to recommend her or any of the other artists there to my friends or family. To that point., the whole place has such a good vibe. All the people I’ve come across in the studio are thoughtful and creative - feels very welcoming, clean and bright. I will be back and thank you for such a great experience!

They were both done by Mik who has been an absolute gem and I felt so comfortable and safe the whole time. I highly recommend going here to have your tattoos done because no matter your style someone is gonna be able to do it. Bonus fun fact: I went the day before attending the Eras Tour in Toronto and had so much fun with the other folks getting Swiftie tattoos and traded bracelets with them and some of the staff which was just such a fun memory!

Fantastic experience: I recently went in to Night & Ink for a tattoo rework of a previous small lined design gone wrong by a different tattoo studio in town. This tattoo meant a lot to me (my first one EVER) but I was devastated by the uneven, squiggly lines and just general lack of care/consistency that I was assured was possible by the previous artist. After a unreal amount of time and effort researching work by someone I could trust to fix it, I found the Night & Ink studio and more specifically - Matthew Snow. First, I'm going to comment on the space. Night & Ink doesn't have the usual typical tattoo parlour dark moody ambiance with heavy metal music playing that makes you feel deftly out of place if that's not your scene. (no offence if thats your thing - its just not mine). Instead, you walk into a incredibly spacious, bright, clean and open reception area. The music is upbeat, and the artists working there promptly welcome you to the studio and ask how they can assist. All health code inspection certifications are posted in the reception area as well. I met with Snow and explained my situation - my apprehension due to my first experience and what the tattoo means to me. I didnt know how I wanted it fixed, just that I needed it done desperately with his fine line detailed art. Snow then spent a considerable amount of time sitting and chatting with me. Continously drawing and redrawing, changing and adjusting to my various requests - all while promising he could fix the lines to make them even/straight and make the tattoo visibly appealing without completely removing the original concept. Long story short. Snow made my tattoo rework delicate, feminine & beautiful. It's balanced, has the fine line details that I was previously promised (that was definitely not delivered) and truly - my experience in studio was such a positive one. Snow is easy to chat with and was more than willing to help me, even when fixing the lines was a giant pain. He made everything seem effortless. I'm very grateful for this studio and Snow's artistry. Kitchener waterloo is lucky to have this talent in our city. 10/10 recommend and if I ever get another tattoo - I will trust noone else with such a permanent statement on my body. I was anxious before my appointment but Matthew totally put me at ease. He was kind, caring and very funny. I’ve had four fine line tattoos done by her now, and am so so happy with how each of them have turned out. The studio is always so clean, and there’s a café located in the same building — a win win. Would definitely recommend this studio — and definitely Lauren — for anyone who is looking to get a dainty and/or fine line tattoo!!
