Owner and artist, Fred Legarda, is an absolute master. He was professional, made the process comfortable, and the final artwork is simply stunning—better than I even imagined. Seriously, the man has magic in his needles. If you're looking for incredible artistry and a top-notch studio, look no further. This was my first, but it certainly won't be my last. He knows his craft well, is quick and precise, and makes you feel completely in control. His prior experience in medicine shines through in his surgical precision and his caring, professional demeanor. My appointment was set for 2PM, and I arrived 20 minutes early. I was already back at my house by 2:05! This was for an earlobe and a septum piercing. It felt like the whole process took less than five minutes. My experience was perfect and I have many more piercings planned. Mike will be doing them all. If you're in Colorado Springs, Self Made Tattoo is THE place to get holes punched in you.

Negative experience: Nobody acknowledges you when you walk in the door. It’s an open concept floor so at least 3 people can see you when you walk in. Not a single “artist” looked up, or said “hey, we’ll be right with you” or “someone will be out in just a minute.” Nothing. I sat at the front of the shop for 15 minutes, with two other people, who were also not acknowledged or recognized….maybe you’ll get greeted and serviced, maybe you won’t.

He does a great job of taking your idea and turning it into the tattoo of your dreams. He takes his time, the line work is clean and consistent and the color is packed in. He also takes the time to sanitize your tattoo after he’s done and give you an estimated timeline for the healing process. Highly recommended!

Negative experience: The shop is great. The artists the two people I was with got are fantastic, and did beautifully. We were SUPPOSED to get matching tattoos, and Kelly and Morgan were excellent, spot on with the art. Dez, however. I got Dez. He was in a big hurry, fudged the outline, did TERRIBLY on the shading, and what was supposed to be a beautiful lotus is a bubble gum pink block instead of gradient. My tattoo was done LONG before the other two, and he was packing up and heading out without even giving me care instructions or anything. He barely spoke to me the whole time he was doing it. It was like he was angry he had a client before he left, but come on, he didn't have to take me if he didn't want to. It was $150 for a crooked pink block of a lotus. Go to Kelly or Morgan instead. They're actually professional and take their time with you.

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing! I have 3 beautiful tattoos from Lucy and they are easily my favorite pieces so far. Lucy is so talented and is always down to turn my wild tattoo ideas into reality and does a killer job every time!! She is also super fun to talk to and makes you feel so comfortable while getting tatted. She is always checking on me to make sure I’m okay and is so accommodating to my needs and interests. I am always looking forward to coming here and getting tattooed by her. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I got an amazing tattoo here from Ash! She started out by helping me redesign the peice had, so that it would have the best final results. And once we got to tattooing, it was quick, precise, and (relatively) painless. We did the whole thing in one sitting! Ill definately be back soon! And ill be asking for Ashlee, she's got the artistic sense, with the light hands to boot.

Fantastic experience: I wanted to change out my nose piercing, and Mike was able to see me as a walk in. The shop was clean (albeit the music was loud but I figure it goes with the territory). Mike was funny, kind, respectful, quick, and charged very little for the replacement ring and replacement service. I would definitely go back there for more piercing needs!

I came in and Mike made the situation and anxiousness so much easier, even offering information I didn’t know. Still SUPER happy with my septum, I plan to get more piercings from him in the future. +it was pretty cheap which is awesome Update: I have now gotten a double vertical labret from him aswell. Both have been wonderful experiences that have left me incredibly satisfied with the work itself.

Fantastic experience: I have been a regular for Fred at self-made tattoo for about 5 years now. I moved here 5 years ago from Oklahoma, where I had another girl who did all of my tattoos. I firmly believe you find a tattoo artist that has the style that you like and you stick with them. And that's how it's been with me and Fred ever since I moved here from Oklahoma. He helped me finish up my sleeve, which is a watercolor based look. Look. He's also helped me with a cover up on my chest. And some other small tattoos here and there. I actually go back in about a week to continue a calf piece. It's always very clean and everyone is very friendly at this tattoo shop. The shop is very bright and open, and each tattoo artist has their individual work hanging on the walls. Each one of them specializes in a different type of artwork, which I truly believe anybody can find the art style type that they are looking for at this shop. I highly recommend this tattoo shop and I highly recommend Fred, if anybody is looking for a new tattoo artist.

Negative experience: If you're looking for a place to get some ink in the Springs I strongly suggest you avoid this shop. They are rude, over priced, & will make you wait several weeks before you get any work done. There's a very quality shop 5 mins down the road from this one called the Ink Spot Studio. They will get you in that day, charge you way less, & be nice to you.

Fantastic experience: Self Made Tattoo is by far my favorite tattoo shop to go too, the staff is incredibly professional and each individually awesome people! Really makes the 2 hour trip from Brighton worth it if you find yourself looking for a tattoo make sure to ask for Julian! Thank you for giving me my favorite pieces of art ! Fantastic experience: Searched CoSprings for a tattoo shop and I have to say that Self Made is a great place to have your work done. Fred took me and my wife in and provided beautiful work every opportunity we have given him. Mike did my daughter’s piercing as well as mine and couldn’t have asked for a better job. This shop is almost a 2nd home for me. 2 sleeves (black and grey and Polynesian aswell as a chest piece) at an affordable well deserved price, I cannot wait to go back and get more work done. Anyone leaving bad reviews about pricing should really make a solid attempt to understand the tattoo industry, cost of supplies, sanitation equipment to keep YOU safe, high quality ink and needles, as well as the efforts made outside of business hours creating art that you want. If you aren’t willing to spend money on something you will wear the rest of your life, then maybe you should stay clear from tattoo shops. These artist have bills to pay too. Lastly, if you have a bad experience with your tattoo, be an adult and go talk to the owner Fred. He will make it right, I guarantee. Fantastic experience: Mike was a cut above when it comes to knowledge and the ability to make you feel confident in yourself. His accuracy in his piercing is top notch. He always made sure to thoroughly explain the process and answer any questions you had. You could trust that he would take care of you and ensure a clean and precise piercing. Negative experience: Originally I had left a good review because that’s just the type of person I am. But based on how things have gone i unfortunately am changing my review. I came in with my best friend and we both got our tongues pierced. She got her second piercing (one piercing that she originally had in the middle and then another in the front) he had her sign all the paperwork and brought her back before even telling her he doesn’t have the right jewelry and so she just agreed to still get it with the wrong jewelry and come back, wasn’t a huge deal honestly but still kinda frustrating that things weren’t upfront. She got pierced and after we left she continued to have extensive bleeding, she had filled an entire cup with blood in an hour, went on for 3 days before she decided to take it out because the bleeding was not normal, her piercing was as well not centered at all. Onto my piercing, i thought everything was fine, I was very swollen and couldn’t eat or speak for 5 days. I’m on day 7 now and still have some swelling but it’s improving. As the swelling has decreased I’ve noticed that my piercing is also crooked, not in the center at all. Maybe this wouldn’t happen if the piercer would have marked rather than free handing, but messing up 2 piercings is honestly just a little unacceptable to me. The after care instructions we were given were not even correct. We were told “brush your teeth 3-4 times a day, use any mouth wash we want, we can drink/ smoke he didn’t care, but recommended to stay away from beer” after doing my own research and talking to another piercer I was told that I should’ve been advised to stay away from dairy products and to not use any mouth wash with alcohol in it. I’m very upset that my piercing doesn’t look right but I do not want to go through the healing process again and neither does my friend. I originally wasn’t gonna leave a review but I’ve called multiples times this week and even left a voicemail and no one will get back to me. Not a good experience for a first time customer

Fantastic experience: Mike has now done all 3 of my facial piercings, and I absolutely love them! I went and got my eyebrow pierced with him today and he had me in and out of there in 5 minutes. He's a very clean, professional, funny, and awesome piercer. The other two piercings healed beautifully, and I have no doubts that this one will be the exact same. I recommend him to anyone looking to get piercings.

With the amazing job he did on mine, my husband went to see Fred to fix/finish his cover up started at a different shop. He left with an awesome, finished tattoo and a tattoo artist he can trust. Fred listens to what you want and works fast and from the heart to ensure you are happy with his art. We will definitely be back for more!

Fantastic experience: I had a 10/10 experience with Mike when getting my nipples pierced. It was great before I even had my experience in the shop. I booked it last minute and he was very accommodating to get me in same day around the time I wanted. When I got there he had me fill out quick paper work and took me back into the piercing room. I was a little nervous to have a man pierce my nipples (and to get them pierced in general), but he immediately put me at ease and was so kind and professional. The whole process was SO fast and they look great. The price was super reasonable as well, just the cherry on top. I will definitely be back for more piercings in the future, but will be setting up an appointment more in advance as to not inconvenience them too much! Thanks again :)

Fantastic experience: Mike is the best piercer you will ever meet. He fixed my septum after it was messed up by someone else years ago, and it healed perfectly. He's pierced my ears, but most importantly, he's pierced my scared teenager's ears. They had asked repeatedly to get their ears pierced, but were beside themselves with fear and nerves. Mike put them immediately at ease, and they were able to happily have their piercings done. They left talking about going back and getting their ears pierced again. He explained aftercare, which is straightforward and has been so easy to follow. We won't go to anyone else.

Negative experience: 10/10 would not recommend. This was my first tattoo experience. Prior to getting finger tattoos, I was told that they would fade and that this business does not do touch ups on hands. Fair. However, this is the “fading” after 10 days. Almost like the needle didn’t even go deep enough into the skin to last. I understand that these specific tattoos fade quicker than most, but I don’t believe it should have happened less than two weeks of getting them done.

His custom work is insanely detailed and gorgeous. He is also incredibly attentive to his canvas, always ensuring their comfort and their needs are met. It had been over a decade since my last piercings, and I’ll admit that I was very nervous about it. Mike was absolutely fantastic and made me feel super comfortable. Edit: I’d also like to add that Mike scheduled me in immediately, and was waiting in the front area for me to arrive. Negative experience: I went to tattoo artist pj and this isnt the first time he messed me up bu he messed me up twice the first time was when i wanted a mayan snake that was from a show but the best pic of it was on the back shoulder but when i wanted it on my arm I got something totally different then he did this cross i wanted it has wavy lines, its off center and has pour color applications everytime i ask him to fix it he pushes it off and i was overcharged twice.. Fantastic experience: Mike was seriously amazing and very knowledgeable. He definitely treated myself and my two best friends like we mattered to him. He made sure to keep us laughing so we didn't think of the pain. 20/10 he went above and beyond what was called for.

Fantastic experience: I got my nose pierced about one year ago. Mike was able to get me in right away and I did not have any problems with scheduling. When I got to the facility, it was very clean and everyone was very friendly. It also helps that the Music was actually decent and not stressful heavy metal. When I was getting the piercing, Mike explained exactly what was happening. He was very personable which made me feel very comfortable. I also felt very comfortable asking any questions during my recovery. Mike suggested that if I was interested in a tattoo to go check out the portfolios of all of the tattoo artists. When I looked at their portfolios, they all were incredible. Julian‘s art seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I sent him numerous pictures of what I was looking for and he was able to combine the pictures into a beautiful piece of art. While getting my tattoo, Julian was super personable and friendly. He was also professional at the same time. I felt like I was hanging out with a friend for a couple hours. I will be going back to Julian very soon for another tattoo. I would highly recommend going to self-made tattoo for piercings or tattoos. I definitely recommend Mike and Julian

Fantastic experience: I took my older sister with autism to get her septum pierced. It can be difficult to find employees and professionals who can successfully handle those with disabilities. Mike was absolutely incredible in explaining everything to her, communicating with me, making her feel comfortable, and safe. He was very friendly, professional, considerate, personal, and funny. She did better than I could’ve imagined and it is all thanks to Mike. I cannot say enough good things about our experience and will 100% be returning for other piercings or tattoos!! (and recommending to others!) Clean, friendly, quick, safe, affordable!! Everyone should come here.
