Fantastic experience: Third time at Cairns City Tattoo, and again very happy with the result. My simple piece was a little more complicated than I expected, but the artist created it perfectly! Thanks Wayne and Cairns City Tattoo.

Fantastic experience: Both my friend and I had an amazing experience at Cairns city tattoo. They were able to squeeze us in at late notice with no problems on our trip and were very accommodating with our busy schedule. We felt very included and understood during the design process and the tattoos themselves turned out gorgeous. Amber and Maddy were both so incredible during the whole process and created tattoos exactly how we pictured them. The rest of the artists were also very welcoming. We could not recommend them enough.

Negative experience: Tried explaining what I wanted, was met with arrogant stubbornness and talked into putting in an area i didnt want it, and what's strange is when I came back home I walked into a tattoo shop and asked if they would do it, they were more than happy to and did it for me right there and then. Some friendly advice - if everyone is to busy or no one wants a small job, just say so, I'd prefer honesty

Getting his name tattooed was such a hard, emotional decision, but Craig guided me through every moment with so much kindness. He kept checking in on me, talking with me, and making sure I felt safe. In a place full of strangers, I felt genuinely cared for — and that meant everything. I reached out only an hour before coming in, and they welcomed me straight away without hesitation. Positive experience: Tattoo process didn't work out and didnt get the tattoo. However, understanding and easy refund. Edit: 1.5 designs, not 3, after my booking was cancelled for "not looking at the design", I came in next day and it wasn't done.

I can definitely say that from the very first time I contacted Cairns City Tattoo right up to getting the tattoo and being given aftercare advice, I found tne whole experience extremely satisfying. Everyone was very helpful, the process of booking made really simple, and getting a professional job done in a professional premises - I was very happy. Fantastic experience: I came to the shop 3 times over my 8 days of being here in Cairns, travelling from the U.K. Zac who did my 4 piercings was amazing and super professional, he really helped me out and eased my nerves about the cartridge piercings and it was completed so quickly and efficiently. I didn’t manage to catch the guys name who did my tattoo, but was really guiding and helpful throughout the process and his work is immaculate. Studio is super clean and every artist in there is really welcoming and supportive towards customers which really helped ease my nerves and my upset when i came in, as i was let down by another artist in the area. I would recommend Cairns City Tattoos to anyone. Lovely people, great service and all really welcoming. Next time I’m in Cairns i’ll be back! Negative experience: Peng, the tattoo artist, was very kind, patient and polite. Amazing work from the arist himself. As far as the rest of the customer service... i would personally not return. Very rude staff apart from our artist. On multiple occasions were very passive aggressive and swearing at mutliple customers (not just us). Peng was the only mannered staff in the building. If youre considering coming here... be prepared for very poor customer service.

Did da research, read da reviews, and found dis spot. Reached out (still dunno why FB, but hey, go wid da flow), and booked one appointment easy kine, even across da time zone. Had da luck of gettin’ Maddison (@tattoosbymaddisonmack on IG). Seen her work online, looked mean, but wasn’t sure if my design was her style. But brah… when we met, everything just clicked. Shop was chill, just us in da space, bumpin’ old school hip hop, talkin’ story, laughin’—good vibes all around. Maddison? Straight up talented, friendly, and made da whole session one memory I going carry fo’ life. And da tattoo? Clean, solid, and full of meaning. Mahalo Maddison fo’ da good kine ink and da good kine times. If you in da area, no shame—go see her!

Fantastic experience: I don't usually leave reviews but had the best experience getting a piece done by Craig yesterday. Super welcoming and friendly, which meant a lot after not getting ink for several years. On top of that worked with me to get the design just right and ended up being 10x better than the photo I had shown him while still keeping the vibe and energy of what I wanted. Fantastic experience: I was a bit apprehensive when my 19-year-old granddaughter wanted a tattoo, so I went with her to Cairns City Tattoo. I need not have been, as the tattoo she got was very elegant and classy. The staff seem very professional and the lady who did the tattoo was very friendly and helpful. She also ended up getting an ear piercing. In view of all this, at the age of 73, I am going to get a tattoo there myself!!

Negative experience: How can this happen??? We asked for the tattooist to do a simple shamrock on the side of my friends neck, and this Chinese / Korean guy put it behind her ear!!!!! Can you guys follow simple instructions? If i had have seen it before i payed the $120 for it, I wouldn't have payed! So she's upset because this tattoo can't be reversed!! It was her first tattoo and she didn't know what he was doing. So thanks, she's at home in tears right now because of your incompetence. I bet I won't get a reply for this message or a refund. Not happy! This is a permanent mistake!!! It's her 21st birthday too.

Negative experience: Came in wanting to get a 3cm rose coloured in, the receptionist told me it wouldn’t cost much at all. After the tattooist coloured the rose that took approximately 10 minutes I was charged $150. At the time I paid it and didn’t make a fuss, but to this day I find it insanity and was blatantly ripped off.

Negative experience: Went in for a tattoo with shadows on it, the tattoo itself was done nicely but the shadows came out dodgy and miss placed. Contacted them but was ignored :) consider the other bigger stores in the area.

He explained everything in a nice and professional manner while giving me the vibes of a good old friend. Fantastic experience: Booked in for a new tattoo, guys here are very professional and very good at their craft. Not cheap, but there's no such thing as a good cheap tattoo. Definitely get what you pay for. Wayne did a magnificent tattoo for me, fine line work was awesome. Wife is booked in for hers with him, and I will go back for my next one.

Negative experience: went in asking for a quote to come back later. Got told it would cost me $200 for a single 4cm butterfly and that he wouldn’t do it unless another artist came in to do it later. Then proceeded to not listen to me when I explained I already knew the possibility of blown out and spread as I already have 22 tattoos ranging from small ones to a massive piece.

Negative experience: Walked in to inquire about ear piercing and small tattoo. Ear piercer was gone for the day but was told I could do the tattoo. Told the guy what I wanted and he said he would ask the other artist if he had time. Other artist came over and I told him what I wanted (2 different coordinates) and he laughed and said “that’s why he didn’t want to do it”. Then he gave me a piece of paper to write it down and the QR code for the waiver. I asked what his name was (required by the waiver) and he gave me someone else’s name and started joking and laughing with the first guy, then said “you can put Yusuke”. Was in there less than 5 minutes and felt so unwelcome and sorry I even walked in, and so I got up and left. Not the experience you want when asking someone to permanently mark your skin.

Fantastic experience: Owned by one of Australia's legendary tattoo artists, with realistic prices, a very professional set up and services, Cashy done my tattoo, but there are a number of great tattooist and specialise in particular fields of tattooing. I'll be back there, that's for sure.

Negative experience: Never got around to being tattooed here because one of the tattoo artists is so incredibly unfriendly and disrespectful. We told him our ideas and he started laughing at us and that our ideas won’t work, even though we showed him pictures that showed they would. Won’t be coming back because he made us feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable.

Female artist initially took our request and then Craig came and done the drawings and tattoo. Really chilled and laid back experience. 250 dollar for around 1.5 hours work all together. Fantastic experience: I’ve had 9 out of my 17 piercings done here and the staff are always fantastic, everyone I’ve interacted with over the years has been professional and knowledgeable, the piercings I have were done safely and correctly and the piercers all had a friendly and calm energy which is great if you’re a first timer, I highly recommend them and will be going back again next time I’m in Cairns

Fantastic experience: Went In the other day with my partner to speak about adjusting the style of a head tattoo I wanted. The younger long ish haired receptionist asian looking guy that speaks English well is horrendously rude and an absolute joke of an artist! I have tattoos almost everywhere on my body from all different artists from all over. I asked about a specific character with a specific lighting design and was explaining the where the character comes from , he immediately stops me and says "I don't need a reference I just need the pictures" ( every artist I have ever dealt with ask where and how I got the idea as to have an input and suggestions) I stopped for a brief second and said well how do you know what to do if I don't explain it, he screwed his face up and said " well I just need pictures and we will do the work" I tried to explained about the lightning, "he said it wouldn't suit as it's a different style to the character", "I said I know this" that's the reason I'm trying to tell you about my idea and give a reference point. It's not the first time either I have dealt with that person, when I first went in to go in with my idea about the head tattoo it was a completely different idea and I was trying to explain how my idea and how it would work, he would say "that's not going to work". Basically, you never get to explain or give your idea as it's always wrong, he refers to the full day pricing between $900 to $1200 and in no way would it take that long as I have much much bigger pieces with a lot more detail and has only taken 5 hrs. Legitimately rude, you (as in the client) are just another person with no idea about tattoos and you will get judged and interrupted when trying to explain. Just take a number, sit down , pay and leave essentially. My partner and I are willing to come in and have a chat with the owner to better explain what when where and how it all went down to help the place progress , but for now it's left a very very sour taste. The reason for the 3 stars is I have been here before and had 2 other artists work on me and they were good the first guy was great but doesn't work there anymore and the one we had recently was good but hard to talk to with an English barrier, although very friendly and listens well enough. (Update) Spoke with Duane over the phone to rectify the whole incident/situation. I must say he is a very understanding business owner and I will definitely come back. I will avoid the person of whom I spoke about, which will make things a little awkward but am happy to deal with others as they are a great bunch of artists. Back up to 5 stars purely out of the owner proactively seeking how to deal with good or bad situations. Cheers guys.

Fantastic experience: Went with my partner to each get a tattoo. For me it was the first. Nate and his coworker did a fantastic job on my hammerhead and her sailfish .

Negative experience: A RIP-OFF AND AVERAGE WORK!!! Yes..."Cheap work isn't good and good work isn't cheap" but $150 for 24mins for something simple and badly executed is a bit of a joke!!!! Went in on 21st Aug to get a small line drawing of 2 little palm trees surrounded by a sun outline on my wrist. On booking I showed the artist my reference and we sized it up and decided around 3cm would be suitable and doable. I was also quoted a price of $100. Studios I've been to in Sydney have been $120-$130 so was happy with Cairns City's rate. I had Pan as my artist on the day. I explained the size that I wanted and that I wanted the lines to be delicate as to not overwhelm an existing piece further up my inner forearm. He insisted that I would need to go larger (5cm) so detail could be seen. I was a little confused by this as it is a very simple line drawing with not much detail. He put on the stencil and I asked again if we could go smaller, again he strongly insisted it needed to be that size. I agreed with his suggestion as he is the professional and when I've had suggestions on size and placement from other artists they have been good suggestions to take. Unfortunately on this occasion it wasn't! I asked due to the up sizing could he please make sure the lines are delicate. When he went to work I could tell he was being quite heavy handed and the results definitely reflect this. The lines are chunky and quite uneven, the circle of the sun isn't evenly round and some lines in the base have blobs at their meeting points. The only said detail I can see are some tiny little spikes on the palm fronds which I did say at the beginning I wasn't too concerned if they weren't too obvious due to the size I was wanting and have come up blurry anyway. On completion he requested $150. I checked the time and had been in the studio for a total of 24mins, this included the artwork and set-up time. I questioned the charge and showed other work covering my entire foot with full colour that only cost me $170 for 1hr15mins. The fairy in the pic although 10yrs old also only cost me $150 for just over 1hr. Clearly little consideration was taken on my complaint hence part reason for this review. Pan may be better with larger, heavier pieces but if you're after something small I'd suggest looking at other artists. I've already arranged for my previous artist in Sydney to fill the piece with colour in an attempt to soften the appearance of heavy lines and other uneven detail. If you're looking for ink in Cairns I'd strongly suggest going elsewhere!

Negative experience: The guy at the front desk was rude to both myself and my friend on separate occasions. Uneducated and a cash grab

Positive experience: Tattoo is well done, artist didn't even shave the arm where the tattoo was placed, not super happy .

Fantastic experience: I was so happy with my orchid tattoo. The last tattooist totally botched it. I forget the tattooist name who saved my tattoo (he was from China) he gave great advice and did a fantastic job making my memorial to my dad look fantastic. He did an awesome job, I've had so many compliments already.. I'd recomend him 100%

Was on holiday from the USA and wanted to add to my ink in the great country of Australia and it was very easy to make an appointment and send my idea online, and the staff was very professional and accommodating. Prices were very reasonable . Would highly recommend!
