Experiência fantástica: It was a true honor to be tattooed at the first tattoo shop in Portugal by the original artist, Francisco. He made the entire experience incredibly personal and real, treating the art with the weight it deserves. Beyond his talent, the man knows his music (honestly, more than anyone I know) which made the atmosphere in the shop even better. ​I came in with my best friend of 22 years, a brother who has stood by me through the absolute craziest chapters of life, in every aspect, through both the heights and the trenches. Our bond is built on true loyalty; he has been there through my struggles just as I have been for his. Getting tattooed together by Francisco on the same day wasn't just a session, it was a definitive mark of a brotherhood that has survived everything life could throw at us for over two decades. We both chose to incorporate the Galo de Barcelos into our pieces to represent the survival of our bond and the integrity of a friendship that has lasted through it all. ​The design process itself was truly uncanny. Without knowing my family history, Francisco independently drew an Anchor, Cross, and Heart for me. When I saw it, I was floored; it was the exact same tattoo my grandfather had, the first tattoo I ever saw as a kid. It felt like destiny. Amazing how Francisco just knew. ​Francisco truly took the time to listen to my story, and he knew exactly how to customize the artwork to reflect my 22-year journey. Here is how we refined the piece to symbolize my path in Portugal: ​The Cross: Faith and spiritual guidance that kept me steady through my darkest chapters all through the 22 years of brotherhood. ​The Galo de Barcelos Handle: Integrity and survival; it represents 22 years of a bond that stood firm through the craziest times in life that couldn't kill us, even though it tried. ​The Shattered Bottle: A definitive mark of my victory over alcoholism, permanently broken and left behind. ​‘Um Dia de Cada Vez’ Banner: A daily reminder of my sobriety and the vital importance of being present as I build my life here in Portugal. The 8 Stars: These represent the 8 years it has been; the distinct one is for my son who is currently missing from my life, I see it daily as my 'North Star' to guide my directions, while the surrounding stars represent the constant hope and navigation I use to move forward every day. ​Francisco is a master of the American Traditional style. If you want a tattoo that carries real weight, history, and a personal touch, he is the only person to see. I gave Francisco an idea of what I wanted and returned to a totally unique one of a kind piece. Once my arm was finished and as I’m waiting for my brother to have his piece done by Francisco, I had Francisco’s son Fred do a free-hand piece on my finger. Very clean and professional tattooing! Experiência fantástica: Faz 25 anos que tenho 2 mangas feitas na El Diablo do Barreiro era o Américo e os desenhos feitos pelo Castor e quero retocar mas os tatuadores ds hoje só sabem fazer decalques. E eu tenho desenhos do castor só a sombra e relevo e ninguém sabe a não ser a El Diablo. Tentem um escureceu o desenho e estragou porque dizia saber fazer sombras mas as sombras é mais que borrar com o mesmo tom. Para além que são lentos. Lembro que o Castor fazia tatos de antebraços inteiro com sombra em 2 horas hoje fazem mal e demoram 1 tarde inteira é una tortura. Carregam muito na máquina e mão pouco firme.

My first search led me to El Diablo Tattoo Club, and from the moment I saw Francisco’s work and read about his 36 years of experience, I knew this was the place. Getting tattooed by Francisco in my father’s hometown was incredibly special. He made both my wife and me feel so comfortable and welcome it felt more like visiting family than just getting a tattoo. He was generous with his time and energy, and the whole experience meant the world to us. I couldn’t imagine getting something so meaningful done anywhere else. Experiência fantástica: El Diablo, the first tattoo shop in Portugal. Where do I start? This was the most incredible experience I have had in my entire life. It starts with the actual shop itself, the art and the variety of unique trinkets truly gives the true American Traditional tattoo shop feel. I’ve gotten many tattoos in the States and this is by far the most unique shop I’ve ever been in. An experience you don’t want to miss. As soon as you walk in the door, the music and the welcome you get from Francisco and Rico hits you with the feeling that “I’m gonna get a great tattoo today”. Francisco helped me work through a tattoo design that gave me something better than what I came in for. He is a true artist and technician, balancing art and technique. Clean lines and bright colors. He made the whole experience special, quizzing me on my 80’s new wave music knowledge (I’m not bad if I do say myself) and teaching me more great music to get into my Spotify rotation. He offered me drinks and even some of his own lunch since this was a long session. I left there feeling like I made a life long friend and I can’t wait to go back. If I could give El Diablo Club more stars I would. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Experiência negativa: El Diablo é, talvez, o estúdio de tatuagens com a melhor reputação em Portugal Adoraria ter sido tatuada pelo tatuador principal, mas as vagas que tinham não permitiam que assim fosse, o que é, certamente, compreensível Pedi para fazer uma tatuagem no pulso, paguei o design (é um procedimento normal, uma vez que, também sendo eu artista, é alguém que está a trabalhar horas ou dias para nós - sim desenhar é trabalho, uma vez que vejo alguns comentários a questionar o preço do design) Quando fui fazer a tatuagem, foi-me mostrado o design, concordei e o resultado final revelou-se completamente diferente Na verdade, não tenho qualquer prazer em mostrar a minha tatuagem no pulso - ainda por cima é bastante grande - e tenho uma constante necessidade de escondê-la com a roupa Fiz a tatuagem para tentar encontrar algo que me fizesse feliz, uma vez que estava a passar por uma fase bastante complicada de anorexia nervosa e bipolaridade Nada ficou feito como devia ser Sempre que mostro o desenho a alguém não há uma única pessoa que consiga perceber que o que está em cima de um tronco é um pássaro Fiquei bastante triste com o resultado Para além disto tudo, fiquei com uma infecção durante um mês, tendo de recorrer várias vezes à urgência da CUF Gostava de fazer outra tatuagem no pescoço, mas depois de tudo isto, especialmente o que se passou com o design, vou fazê-la noutro estúdio

I trust him 100% to be able to express his art of tattooing on my body, as he is the pioneer of tattoos in Portugal. In my case, the work done was in the Oriental/Japanese style. In terms of hygiene, El Diablo presents incredible care and a top level, the best I know of in studios in this sector. The atmosphere is spectacular, the music and decoration of the studio makes me feel super comfortable! Their style and the great reviews sold me, and I also thought it would be pretty badass to say you were tatted at the oldest tattoo studio in Portugal! Francisco showed me some of his designs which I loved, But he was more than happy to tweek the design so had a more customised design. He gave me an originally designed American Traditional piece that included PERFECT bold lines and incredibly vibrant color. He didn't tear up the skin in even the slightest amount, and that alone is pretty impressive considering how punched-in the color looks. Besides being highly skilled, he and the rest of the gang at EDTC exude a positive an inviting energy which makes it hard to leave. The next time I plan a trip to Lisbon, I will definitely make an appointment. If looking for a tattoo, don't hesitate!
