Fantastic experience: Came here after going to Studio 7 where the women in there were rude and told me I had the wrong anatomy (which I knew I didn’t) and had the audacity to charge me $10… Anywho, I’ve had Maximus do both my nose piercings so I felt comfortable with him, but he wasn’t working BUT I also didn’t want to wait until the weekend either. The guy that answered the phone told me Jon was working, so I decided to take my chances. Let me just say that Jon was AMAZING. He was kind, knowledgeable and a great sense of humor. I would 100% recommend Jon or Max!!!

Negative experience: I went here and specifically asked if I had the right anatomy for an industrial and said I would get a different piercing if not. The piercer said I had the correct anatomy so I got my industrial done and over a week it became very hot and painful to the touch, so I went to a different piercer who said that I had the wrong anatomy to begin with. She removed the industrial that had been pressing into my head and replaced on part with a helix.

Fantastic experience: Maximus was absolutely AMAZING! 1000/10 highly recommended this place there clean and organized helped me get my septum back in! And made me feel at home when I needed to take an important phone call that randomly popped up on me

Negative experience: I received a helix piercing 8 weeks ago and am highly disappointed. I was convinced to get a titanium hoop because it would be a better healing process and found many articles and information indicating that was not the best advice. I went to a different piercing business and had to have the hoop bent and pried off my ear to put in a stud, and basically restart the healing process. I reached out to this business several times regarding setting up a time to change out the jewelry and did not get a response, nor from the person who pierced my ear. Would not recommend.

Negative experience: gone here for my navel done, followed every step they gave me for the healing process and i’m not new to the piercing game, was the worst healing process i’ve ever experienced, talking to a few people who have been here for piercings and tattoos, every single person has had an issue. i continue asking around and this place is just known for trying to make a quick buck

Quick, clean atmosphere with very nice front door service and quick piercing guy made ya feel so welcome an in this ugly world it means alot so was very highly appreciated❤ will definitely be my go to from now on ❤

Fantastic experience: Recently visited this business on vacation. Had two shamrocks outlined on my stomach. The artist did an amazing job on the piece. Starting with the booking It was very simple and easy to get an appointment even on short notice. They replied to my email in a timely manner. And worked with my schedule for building the appointment. At the time of the appointment. One of the polite members of staff had retrieved me from my car and brought me to the building. My girlfriend and I were both offered accommodation when we walked in. And the overall vibe of the shop was very welcoming. I mainly only held conversations with my artist at the time. Who was super polite, and professional. But even from my short time in the shop. I could tell the other members of the staff were good people as well. I would highly highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to get work done. As, if i’m in the area again I would definitely bring my business to them!

Negative experience: Went to get my kid a navel piercing. We had trusted this place since we had gone here before and gotten a different piercing for her and trusted them well enough. The piercing was alright, but it was sketchy how they didnt check her anatomy. I thought it looked great, was cute but the bar hadnt seemed long enough for swelling. Well, two weeks later the piercings irritated, peeling around the skin. Mind you, we had done all the care instructions and researched care for it. Saline 2 times a day, pat down dry. Simple. Well, around two weeks after, my daughter cleans it and notices the literal top jem is sinking into her skin, creating a massive hole where the top of her belly button is. It honestly looked like a meteorite had crashes on the top of her belly button. So, we go to a different place to get advice on it. Turns out, she didnt have the right anatomy for a traditional navel piercing, the piercing was pierced not exactly close enough to the belly button. Got it switched to a floating navel but took it out in the end. Go to a trusted place please, be careful who your piercer is.

Negative experience: My experience there was fine i guess. i got a belly piercing and it went great. I got a tattoo and it was fine at first but its been a week and a half and my tattoo looks so bad and the same for my niece that came and got the same tattoo… my hands aren't in water all the time so theres really no excuse for this, they say they do free touch ups but i will not be going back for that. My tattoo was done with a stencil also

Positive experience: The guy who pierced my nose was incredibly nice, as was the different guy who changed the stud into a hoop for me. The one thing that didn’t quite sit right with me was what felt like a bit of shadiness regarding pricing. I was told by 2 different workers that the price for the jewelry was $20 (and, everybody knows that’s overpriced for jewelry / 100% I can change the jewelry myself but, I enjoy the sense of a community and fellowship so, I’m willing to pay that to create brand loyalty, etc). Since I work customer service, I was already expecting to pay $30 total to add on $10 for labor (changing the jewelry). The guy who put the new hoop in for me was super nice but, at the end he told me that I “didn’t owe HIM anything” and it was just $30 for the jewelry. When I went to check out, I knew there was some weird energy behind it because instead of the guy already knowing the price of the jewelry (which, I would assume would be standard and across the board) he asked me, “what price did he tell you?” So, I know this is long and complicated and maybe a bit nick picky but, I can appreciate that he wants to make money for his labor. I would too but, it felt weird from an energy standpoint that instead of just saying, “hey- it’s 20 for the jewelry and 10 for my labor” (bc I was a walk in and super appreciated the last minute work in) - you up price the jewelry and make it seem like I’m getting a deal? I have been hustled a handful of times in my life & I had that same feeling when I left the shop. Not in an exorbitant way but, enough to make me feel stupid. Just not a great feeling and not necessary. I can understand why employees might do that bc a lot of other customers probably don’t realize they need to pay for someone’s labor. But, to the ones of us out there in the community wanting to build trusting relationships with businesses- I won’t be returning to this place. The little ways you treat people matter to me. And, it leaves me thinking, “if you’re gonna try and hustle me out of $10 - what does that mean about other work that costs more?” But, that’s just me. They are all incredibly nice and seem to know their stuff. Just weird energy.

Negative experience: So I walked in and I had immediately noticed that the artist (named AJ) was talking to me like I was a child- he didn't ask me for my name and this was just one of the things that I wish the artist would realize- girls aren't just a number or an object- WE HAVE NAMES! ASK US FOR OUR NAMES! Anyways, the artist that tattooed me that was named Aj was talking to me like I was a child (I'm 21 years old by the way). Anyways, he was treating me like he was better than me by making his voice sound like really high pitched and like I had no clue what was going on and I HATED EVERY MOMENT OF IT. I realized that one of the people I had talked to on the phone wasn't there when I went to check out, so he gladly took my $100, without giving me change. Since I did not have change and he thought it was a tip, I am extremely pissed that this happened! He clearly didn't know what my disability nor the effects of my disability was. This and neither did he care. I do not recommend AJ but if you're going to get a tattoo here in Wilmington, go somewhere where you're respected (this is mainly added for those who are trying to get a tattoo and are have some chronic illnesses like me. I have Multiple Sclerosis so I cannot be around those who smoke!)

Fantastic experience: I had some trauma from a septum piercing done at another studio in town (it was pierced twice and jewelry changed 3 times in one sitting and I still left with the jewelry not even hanging out of my nose took it out the same day) I really wanted the piercing but waited a couple years because I was scared it would happen again. I came into jade monkey on a whim and Jon was awesome from start to finish. He went above and beyond, comforted and reassured me and gave me a great piercing that healed up perfectly. I've gone back for 3 more since. Jon's got a super laid back, calming demeanor and always does a great job. thank you! Will most definitely keep coming back.

Fantastic experience: Went there to get my daughters noses pierced and had an excellent experience. We are no strangers to piercing places, and this will be the place we go to from here forward. Maximus was so kind, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. Prices were great. Even the bathroom had a candle burning and great handsoap, making the atmosphere in a place that can feel intimidating to some, cozy and welcoming. I know we have choices when getting pierced but stop researching and go here for all your piercing needs :)

Negative experience: I went after my parents and sister recommended the place thinking this would be a great place for my first tattoo. After the tattoo was done, I noticed the artist colored outside the lines and at the time I thought he used one color of ink like I had asked. Instead there are two different colors of black on my arm. (One for the outline one that I assume is shading) I said "I'll just get this fixed elsewhere." So I ignored it. I then go to get my nipples pierced. After being told they look like this to heal, i assumed it would go down. (Not to mention they made it impossible to remove the piercing) but after speaking to another piercer. I was told that the original piercer did it too far back and I have some scar tissue and my piercing is hammer heading. I want to show images of it but it disgusts me looking it. So if you do want images if it's the owners or whatever, let me know, I will happily send it over. It sucks I had a bad experience twice after my parents and sister had wonderful experiences.

Fantastic experience: Brought my daughter in to get her ears done. Maximus scooped us up to do it quickly. My daughter was super scared she had a bad experience when she was young at claires with her mother. Max dissolved all her concerns with his amazing energy. Had her laughing and chill. Of course, it went great. She didn't even flinch. The second ear came with some hesitation, but again, he had her calm instantly. Dont tramatize your kids at claires. Take your kids here. Let a real professional handle it. Max is a true professional who was a pleasure to meet. My daughter is already on pintrist looking at second hole pictures. What a great experience. Thank you Maximus. Thank you Jade Monkey. One of the only shops in Wilmington that has stood the test of time. Has been here forever. Alot to be said for that alone.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been here to get 3 tattoos done. Good size pieces. Between 3 to 4 hours per session. Amazing staff, super clean and great work. Everyone there has been really outgoing and very engaging. Noel has done all 3 of my pieces and has been very professional and has done a great job of putting together an amazing tattoo with the pictures I’ve sent to him. I’ll definitely be returning. Best shop in town in my opinion.

Negative experience: Writing on behalf of my piercing experience. I got my “flat” pierced two years ago this past summer. The appointment was a wreck. I showed the guy what I wanted over and over again. He explained that the cartilage that I wanted done wasn’t doable but a flat would give the same effect. I said okay, with the understanding that I knew I wanted a second one very close to this one. I explained my goal and shared pictures showing that I eventually wanted two side by side piercing in the “flat” area. He marked the spot. I agreed. I knew it was wrong from the moment he showed it to me. It was sideways. Instead of coming from the back side, he came in from an angle and the rear part of my earring has always protruded. I’ve dealt with infection after infection with this piercing and I’ve never experienced that with my others. I finally after two years took it out and I’m hoping it will heal enough that I can somehow pierce it again and it not look like a complete disaster. For now, my ear is still swollen. I do not recommend this place. I would never bring a child here for piercing. I will never return.

Negative experience: During my first tattoo AJ (the tattoo artist) leaves in the middle of my tattoo for around 15 minutes to go get food. I thought that was weird. After (Through instagram DM) i tried to schedule a touch up because alot of the lines faded he said he’d check what times were available. A month later he still hadn’t texted me what times were available so ask again if i could please come get it touched up? He responds quick and says “yeah what day works” i asked him about a day in september, he read the message, didn’t respond and it’s been sitting for about 2 weeks.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing service, I went in and everyone was extremely nice and a very clean environment. I got my 3rd earlobe piercing and cartilage pierced by Jon and he did an amazing job. Would highly recommend this place for anyone going to get a piercing or a tattoo!

Fantastic experience: I was in town, when last minute I remembered that in my little village no one’s able to do small fine line work. I have dots above my middle, ring and pinky finger nails, that represents my family. Stupidity I latter added one on my left ring finger to represent my ex husband who was my best friend for 24 years (9 years married). Big mistake, huge mistake. I called the shop an hour before closing and they were able to get me in. Jimmy was awesome. To set up for something so small at the end of his day. Need I say more? He was able to completely disguise the dot! Making my entire year! Thanks Jimmy and everyone at Jade Monkey Tattoo!

Negative experience: This was my 2nd experience with Jade Monkey. My first experience, I brought my daughter to get her belly pierced. When we arrived there is a sign on the door that says call to let them know you've arrived. We called several times and the line was busy. The door was locked so we were forced to stand in the very hot heat until they finally came to the door. While we were waiting inside another customer came up and she had to sit outside on the bench in the extreme heat. She was still sitting there when we left. The guy that did the piercing was awesome. The guy with the prosthetic leg. My second experience, and will be the last. I brought my daughter to get her nose pierced. We called ahead and they said to come on in. We got there and again we had to call and the line was busy. We were literally standing right in front of the door. They could clearly see us. The phone was still busy so I knocked on the door. A very rude and on the border of aggression, man opened the door very quickly. He was rude and aggressive so I wasn't too pleasant myself. He wanted us to sit outside in the extreme heat on the beach in the direct sun. My daughter wanted to stay. We stayed long enough for me to teach my daughter on how customer service should be and this example of how it definitely shouldn't be. This place definitely doesn't think about it's customers. Very bad customer service. I definitely would not recommend the establishment. There are too many tattoo and piercing businesses in Wilmington to have to deal with this terrible treatment of customers. When you're spending this much money you expect to be treated with respect. Do better!!!

Fantastic experience: I have had snake bites and my eyebrow pierced here. Both Maximus and Jon are extremely professional and have passion in their job. They use good quality jewelry for initial piercings and very hygienic. Maximus really took his time to mark my bottom lip and explained to me how your body anatomy has everything to do with lip piercings and marked the perfect spot for them. Jon took his time to explain to me how eyebrow piercings work and was very enthusiastic about it. I love a piercer that loves what they do, it makes the experience. The tattoo was awesome and because the first experience was so good, we decided to take a chance and select from their gumball machine of tattoos! He was highly recommended by a coworker and he lived up to everything I was told. He was so personable, explained the process as he went and put me at ease (only my 2nd tat), and the detail he puts into his work was excellent. From the time you are met at the front door you’ll notice the shop is so clean and sterile, not what I had experienced at another shop in town. Fantastic experience: My six year old wanted to have her ears pierced and due to the great reputation of Jade Monkey for ear piercing, we went there. Even though it's not like "Claire's" or "The Piercing Pagoda" - where you'd normally take kids, everyone is so professional and it's very clean and much safer. Max was our piercer and he did everything he could to help us feel comfortable and relaxed. My daughter needed some time to feel up for it and he never rushed her or made us feel like we were wasting his time. He talked to her calmly and showed her anything she wanted to see and described what he would do if she asked. He was very respectful when she had quite a few "false starts". Even though we only managed to get one ear done, he assured us it was okay and we could come back another time for the next ear. We came back the next day per her request, but she said she still was not ready once the time came. She still loved chatting with him and Max was still as patient as ever. Max at Jade Monkey will be our guy for any piercing needs for our house. Thanks Mr. Magic Max!

Fantastic experience: Such a great experience. Worm did my nose piercing. He was very nice, explained thing well and did the piercing fast. It was very clean and the guy who helped up when we signed in and checked out very polite.

Negative experience: This place is a total ripoff. I asked for a small cross on my neck and not only was the placement incorrect, the line is crooked. How do you screw up a straight line?? Moreover, my friend bought an eyebrow piercing and they gave him the bar but kept the balls (he wanted to keep his spikes) Just an absolutely ridiculous experience.

Fantastic experience: I've never written a review for Jade Monkey, but I've been getting tattooed here for a while. Jimmy is a fantastic, kind and professional artist. I am extremely satisfied with all the tattoos he has given me. The snake and the shark are from their get what you get vending machine, Noel did the snake and Jimmy did the shark.

Fantastic experience: I've been here before, but 20 years ago. Since then, they did a remodel & it looks amazing!! I was very impressed. Very neat & clean. The atmosphere was great. All the artists I got to see & talk with were awesome. Friendly & funny. Made us feel so comfortable. We were there to get my bday bestie tattoo. our artist, Leroy, drew up what we wanted & then started tattooing. He was very polite & and friendly, but more importantly, he was gentle, not heavy-handed. & his vibe kept us calm. Like I said, I'd been here before & I'll be back again. Just won't let 20 years go by this time.

Negative experience: Horrible experience. Got a tattoo done here earlier this year and previous to the set appointment, I contacted one of the artists via Instagram DM. The artist stated that for the tattoo it would cost me $250. Remember that, $250. When I got to the shop at the appointed time for my appointment, an individual came outside to my car and told me that the person with me could not come in because of “covid-limitations.” Mind you this is 2023. There aren’t anymore social distancing regulations. So this was made up. I try not to use racial discrimination as a reason for people’s actions, however, my friend and myself were the only people of color that were going to go inside the tattoo shop. Therefore my friend had to wait in the car for nearly two hours. So then the artist I was going to tells me that he can’t complete my whole tattoo because he over-scheduled his appointments and that he could only do one part of my tattoo. I was furious. We had talked about getting the whole tattoo done over a month prior to the appointment. So then I asked what would be the price difference for just part of the tattoo. This joker tells me $200. So for the main part of the tattoo being excluded it’s only a $50 difference??? So, with it being my first tattoo and having some naivety with tattoo shops in the area, I proceeded with the appointment, since I was already at the shop and this was a birthday tattoo. Once the tattoo was complete, the artist then tells me the final cost is $230! From $250 to $200 to $230… where is the logic?? Somebody please tell me. Please. I paid my dues and was incredulously dissatisfied with my tattoo. The shading on the tattoo looked like a kid used a black crayon on a piece of paper in the dark. I WILL NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER GO TO THIS SHOP OR REFER IT TO ANYONE! Y’ALL NEED BETTER SERVICE AND BETTER TREATMENT OF CUSTOMERS THAT PUT MONEY IN YOUR POCKET! ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS QUICK MONEY FROM PEOPLE!

Fantastic experience: i got my nose pierced today. jon(I'm pretty sure that was his name) was so insanely sweet and made me feel very comfortable and not sceard. I was in and out so fast. the paper work took a little bit of time to fill out but that's bc I'm under 18 so we had to do a lot. I definitely recommend coming here. there amazing

Fantastic experience: I got my first tattoo here by Leroy and it was a great experience. I was so nervous but he made me feel comfortable and was so gentle. The rest of the staff seems awesome as well. Everyone is very welcoming and the whole place just has good vibes. Definitely recommend. Just went back yesterday with my sisters.

Fantastic experience: I called looking for a gold nose hoop, they told me to swing on by. I was in and out in under 10 minutes even though they were crazy busy. They switched it out for me for free. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: They were so kind. Max and John took care of my friend and me. Not sure if it’s a NC rule or what but only those being pierced could go in, so one of our friends had to wait in the car. :/ $40 for nose piercings including jewelry. Great price. Sweet and comforting staff. Cash only. Will return when I’m back in Wilmington!

Positive experience: Jimmy Creep is great! He took great care of my mom for her first tattoo. Very gentle and very kind. His line work is on point! I give 4 stars because of the music.. not everyone loves screamo! It was extremely annoying to have to sit in there and listen to that for 3 hours.
