Fantastic experience: I moved to the island 2 years ago and was desperately looking for a new artist, after visiting a few other shops but nothing stood out to me or made me want to be a patron....then I was told about Relegation Tattoo and from the moment I looked at the website this place felt different than the rest.....then I went in for my first consultation with Katie-Anne and from the moment I walked into the shop I knew I had found my place. I 100/10 recommend Relegation for all your tattoo needs. The atmosphere is amazing, all of the artists are friendly and professional with amazing skill.

Fantastic experience: I'm a new client getting a full sleeve. Before this place I had went to many in a different Province and didn't feel confident the art would be up to the expectation of what I was hoping to put on my body. Relegation tattoo is a cut Above the competition, in Talent, professionalism and comfortability, atmospheres on point and the staff is welcoming. I love how the tattoo turned out - it is exactly what I wanted. Kone took the time to customize the simple tattoo design I had sent in and it is perfect. Fantastic experience: Visited Grant to do a really small touch up on a tattoo I got previously. He saw how small the tattoo was, and instead of just taking my money and sending me on my way after a five minute touchup, he suggested we use the whole hour and he touched up other tattoos I had. He was easy to talk to and had lots of good banter! I’m thrilled with the way he touched up my old tattoos and brought some life back into my sleeve. I highly suggest him for any artwork you may be looking into getting at relegation. The shop in general is clean and hygienic, it’s a welcoming and comforting space you want to spend time in. Thanks Grant, I will be back!

Negative experience: Worst place ever, the reception gave me a card with the wrong day, a week later, they claim I missed my appointment and stole my $180 dollar deposit. Poor business practice.

Fantastic experience: Was able to speak to a tattoo artist and make an appointment with minimal wait time.

Negative experience: My friend and I had a very good initial experience discussing tattoos we wanted to get during a trip in couple weeks from a guy working at the shop. Today, however, we had an absolutely nasty experience with a girl named Clara. She was incredibly condescending, even when we agreed that a larger piece that day would be unrealistic and that we'd be happy to get just our small matching ones (a simple sun and moon). She insisted that it would be impossible to do without a consultation meeting first (we live 6 hours away and would only be there for that weekend- and again, very simple tattoos). It felt like she just wanted to clear the spot that day. Every moment of that phone call she sounded snide and annoyed at us. It was incredibly unprofessional, maybe she was having an off day but damn I hope they get someone else to work the phone.

Fantastic experience: Olli did a phenomenal job on my piece, I came to her with an idea and she brought it to life tenfold what I could’ve imagined. It was such an amazing experience start to finish and Griffin at the front desk was so warm and inviting which was really appreciated as it was my first time in a tattoo studio.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely phenomenal. I have been to Relegation multiple times now and every time it's awesome. The shop is bright, clean and inviting. The staff are all great too. Clara and Griffin are very inviting and friendly, great people to have at the front of the shop. There is a great selection of flash tattoos to choose from, as well as shirts, hats, art and stickers from various artists. Big shout out to Oli for an awesome ear and head tattoo. Highly recommended her for geometric and stipple work. 10/10 will be going back.

I had anxiety going to a new artist and olesia made it a very easy and relaxed tattoo, even despite the location being painful it was probably the most gentle tattooing experience I’ve had. The atmosphere and the crew on shift were also very friendly and easy going and I would recommend relegation to anyone. Will be coming back.

Negative experience: Never gets back to you. Doesn’t respect customer inquiries Edit: they are saying they refused due to not being comfortable but it was a literal rose on my arm. They took down my name and number and said they’d call me. I gave them courtesy to not go to anyone else to sabotage their time and they do not feel the same. They deflect and blame nonsensical reasons. Not the hype they used to be

Fantastic experience: Amazing location, Super bright and spotlessly clean. Staff are fun and very friendly…great atmosphere too! What can I say about Oli…so talented and fun to work with…listens to your thoughts and ideas and transforms them into incredible works of art.

Negative experience: Your skin ain’t worth their ink. Rejected my idea which was non gang, non hate. Asked about it on the phone and was told it was no problem to be done at this shop. Drove 2 hours for a consultation in which my idea was immediately rejected. After this artist wasn’t interested I tried another at the same shop in which he never even replied to me. Frusterated I wasted months with this shop.. I Went to Electric Umbrella and they gave me an incredible experience, and the tattoo I wanted within 2 months of their busiest time. Don’t waste your time at Relegation unless you want to pick a tattoo from a wall. They are friendly but will waste your time !

When I email them it's always met with a fast response. Fantastic experience: Saw a guy while I was working and he had a sick tattoo and I asked where it was from. He said here so good job

Negative experience: I took time off work to attend a first consultation appointment that was cancelled due to a family issue with the artist (Cory). Took more time off work to come to a second consultation the following week. Booked three session to complete my left sleeve. First session was booked on Canada Day to be told that the tattoo artist (Cory) had a family emergency. Then they lost my second appointment and used a "technicality" as an excuse. I sent the tattoo artist an email with some ideas for what I wanted on my sleeve - and never got a response. When I tried to sort it out the receptionist he was very patronizing at which time I lost my desire to be a patron at this shop. Adding insult to injury they kept my deposit ($100). This shop went out of their way to make my experience negative and kept my money. Very frustrating as I wasted 3+ months trying to book something there.

Positive experience: Staff are friendly for the most part, I do find some of the attitudes a little off putting. The artists are extremely talented, and watching Cory, the owner at work, he is great! I would go back however I will want to take a harder look at the artist's books. When I booked my tattoo appointment in the past the artist disrespected my PAID time and finished eating her snack. I showed up early and had to wait about 45minutes before we got started, which was 30minutes past my booking time. I have been 50/50 on going back to this shop, I would love to, but I am very hesitant from my experience there.

Fantastic experience: Got a mother and daughter tattoo from Andrew. He was great to come up with ideas and then explain why some things might be better than others, worked with our ideas and they came out beautifully. Will be back and have already referred someone.

Negative experience: I want to start off by saying I was so excited to potentially get my tattoos done here. I went through their website and looked through the artists portfolios and I have to say, the previous work they showcase on their website looks phenomenal. All of the work I saw, from each artist, beats the work I saw done from any other tattoo shop in Nanaimo and that had me so over the moon excited! That's where the good begins and ends. I applied on their website to be put into consideration for some tattoos. You now have to fill out an application (not unlike an application you have to fill out when you are wanting to apply for a home rental) to be considered by the artists to be tattooed. I am assuming this is because of COVID as I have not seen this anywhere else before when being tattooed. I understand times are weird and I fully support the shop feeling the need to make use of an application, it's just foreign to me and thus a bit strange. Anyway, I applied... and that's where to story ends. This was a month ago now. I never heard back from anyone, whether it be a receptionist or an artist. No one told me whether or not my application to be tattooed was accepted. I suppose part of the blame can be placed on me for getting my hopes up and getting so pumped after seeing the art these amazing artists do. And don't get me wrong, they do seem to be amazingly talented. But somewhere down the line someone dropped the ball. I would love to be given the chance to get my tattoos done here, but the lack of ANY sort of communication gives me the idea that the feeling is not mutual. I guess I shall look elsewhere, even though I really don't want to.

I've managed to get about a dozen walk in tatts just by strolling in after work or even once just on my lunch break as my friend was finishing up. Professional, chill vibes and just a good atmosphere. Shame walk ins aren't currently possible but hey I'm just glad the shops open again. I'll be back for #22 soon

Out of 8 tattoos i have this was by far the best i have gotten and it healed the best as well. Clean enviroment, awesome background music and super happy and friendly artists.

Fantastic experience: Andrea is such a rock star. Her work is impeccable and she has a very soft touch. I got two very realistic detailed/fine line pieces and they turned out amazing. Everyone in the shop is super nice and easy going, and everything is super sanitary. 10/10 would recommend Andrea, definitely the nicest tattoo I've gotten!

She nailed the loose idea I gave her and she is a very talented artist. The whole shop was really friendly and supportive of one another and I already booked my next piece there I loved it so much. Negative experience: I had wanted a tattoo for a while, and this place has the best rated reviews in all of Nanaimo so I booked a consultation. Unfortunately my experience was not good and now I won't be returning for a tattoo with this business. The person on the phone suggested I get a tattoo from someone so I booked my consultation with this person. This person had some of the worst customer service ever! I was shocked in my conversation with them because of how they acted. I told them what I wanted as a tattoo and what I was looking for and this person basically bashed my ideas and was so uncaring towards what I would like. The mannerisms of this person was rude and controlling and I would not recommend them to anyone. I told them what I wanted and they said, oh you shouldn't do that regarding my tattoo styles. Furthermore, for our "consultation" we just talked at the front desk, while two people were sitting behind it, listening in and watching, AND while a few CUSTOMERS came through the door! This was a bit awkward because there was another artist who was doing a consultation and she brought her customer to the back area. Due to not wanting to slander this person I am choosing to not leave a name. I won't be going here because even the two people sitting at the front desk, who were right beside me and this tattoo artist, did not say anything to mitigate the awkward and negative situation. I hope anyone who gets a tattoo here gets a wonderful tattoo artist and has a great experience because it honestly sucks receiving poor service when you are about to spend a few hundred dollars on multiple tattoos.
