For clarity, we don’t set our minor piercing rules independently. Missouri law requires specific documentation and a notarized consent form from a parent or legal guardian before we’re allowed to pierce anyone under 18. That notarization step is what helps protect minors from receiving services without a parent or guardian’s knowledge or consent, and it’s something we’re legally obligated to follow every single time.

We understand that needing to find a notary on a Sunday can be a hassle, and we completely understand why that would be annoying in the moment. At the same time, we have to choose the side of safety and compliance over convenience, especially when it comes to minors and body piercings.

We’re a woman-owned small business doing our best to follow state requirements and keep our clients – especially younger ones – safe. Your frustration is primarily with the state policy, not with our staff or work, and we’d be grateful if you could consider updating or removing this review to reflect that. It has a significant impact on us and doesn’t accurately represent the level of care and professionalism we bring to every client.

Hi there—thanks for sharing your experience. We take feedback seriously and want to clear up a few points to help you achieve a happy, healthy heal.

On the “butterfly backs”:
For some ear piercings, our piercers may start clients with secure, low-profile backs that many people refer to as “butterfly backs.” We use them intentionally in specific anatomies because they provide extra post length for swelling, sit comfortably while sleeping, and—when paired with implant-grade titanium jewelry and proper sizing—can heal well. We also regularly use flat-back labret posts; the choice depends on anatomy, swelling, and the end-goal of the jewelry. If you prefer a different backing style, we’re always happy to accommodate at the appropriate time during the healing process.

Aftercare (we didn’t skip it):
Our standard is to provide both a verbal walkthrough and written aftercare with every piercing at checkout. That includes saline care, what to avoid, and when to come back for a check. If that didn’t come across clearly during your visit, that’s on us for not making it stick—we’ll happily resend our aftercare and go over it with you one-on-one.

Timing for hoops & early jewelry changes:
Changing jewelry too soon is one of the most common reasons cartilage gets irritated—so yes, swapping immediately (or having another studio change it early) is a big no-no. Cartilage often needs several months to settle before downsizing or switching styles; many people aren’t ready for hoops until well after initial healing. Any “8–10 weeks” guidance would have been about a check-in/assessment, not a guaranteed hoop change.

About gauge and placement:
Our default for helix piercings is an appropriate cartilage gauge (commonly 18g or 16g) with implant-grade jewelry, unless anatomy requires otherwise. We also place piercings with your end goal in mind; if you’re aiming for snug hoops, we plan placement to suit that look. If another studio told you it measured differently or wasn’t ideal for your specific hoop style, we’d like to evaluate it in person and make it right.

We’d love to bring you in for a complimentary check, measure the jewelry currently in place, review aftercare together, and set a safe timeline for downsizing or moving to hoops—so you end up with the look you wanted and a calm, happy heal. Please reach out and we’ll get you on the schedule

I’m sorry for the experience you and your daughter had when visiting our shop. I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to be told on the phone that you’d have time for a piercing, only to arrive and find the door locked.

It sounds like there was a miscommunication on our end about timing, and unfortunately, our piercer had an unexpected personal matter that required them to leave early that night. While this doesn’t excuse the confusion, it’s certainly not the experience we want for our guests.

We’ll be addressing how we handle last-minute calls so we can give accurate, real-time information in the future, and make sure no one makes a trip unnecessarily.
