Experiencia fantástica: Took my teen for lip piercings. Smash took his time to make sure they were placed exactly where my teen wanted them and kindly explained every step as he did it. It was barely painful (with numbing cream). We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve gotten my cartilage and lobe pierced here and each time it went quickly and smoothly. I’ve had no problems with the healing process. The staff are chill and accommodating. My piercer was Smash and he did a great job!

Experiencia negativa: don’t go here for piercings. Went with my friends and all of us had complications. My friend had to get it redone completely because the hole was almost lateral through the ear. My forward helix post backs are unable to be removed? and i had to correct my navel angle multiple times. really disappointed, never had issues like this w piercings.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve gotten my all my tattoos and piercings here and I’ve loved it my piercings were great super fast didn’t feel a thing, all 6 of my tattoos have been done by Judy and I love them all she is very attentive to all the fine lines, very patient with choosing the placement, and very sweet with me asking to take a quick break. One of my tats I couldn’t find the right placement for and she helped until I did and it made me feel really good sharing my thoughts with her, hands done one of the best tattoo artists there! Go with Judy for sure!!!

Experiencia negativa: Short version: I had a less than favorable experience here. I went in to get a septum piercing on 7/22–my first piercing, not including ears. I didn’t feel taken care of. I didn’t feel the staff cared about my experience. The piercing ended up crooked, uneven, and misaligned. The company did nothing to console me or try to make amends. I don’t recommend this place, especially newcomers to the piercing world. Long version: I went in very excited to get my first piercing, a septum. I didn’t really know what I was doing, or what I should have been looking for, and what I did know was to make sure the establishment looked clean. For the record, it did look clean. They were prompt and ushered me into a side room. Of the two piercers listed online, my technician was Kim. I remember her face. She introduced herself in the moment, but i don’t recall her using that name. To be honest I don’t remember, too overwhelmed, and regardless, it’s irrelevant—I digress. I misstook her quiet demeanor for confidence. Looking back, it was more of an unforthcoming, apathetic disposition, and a reluctance to provide any sort of solace or care. After a brief marking with a pen of where the needle would go, with no pre-measuring of any kind, she asked if it looked okay. Being new to this sort of thing, I looked, but didn’t really know what I was looking at exactly. I asked for clarification, expecting at the very least some sort of explanation or guidance as to if it looked okay, what her process was, if in her professional opinion it looked okay, etc. I was met with a blank stare, no response. I stupidly confirmed, and she proceeded to pierce me. It hurt. Obviously. A lot. But we finished up after a couple seconds. She handed me the mirror and immediately it was noticeable. Off-center. Not symmetrical. Positioned too high in my septum. I expressed my concern that it wasn’t right and she dryly responded, with something along the lines of “we can redo it.” My husband was with me during the process. He tried to console me, saying something like, “maybe a bigger diameter ring would make it look more even.” Kim responded coldly, “we do have larger diameter rings.” No mention of maybe, I don’t know, something along the lines of, “when it heals it should be better” or, “this is normal.” I can only imagine she messed it up and knew it. And unremoresfully attempted to gloss over it. And hope I shut up and left it as a first timer. We left promptly after. I told my husband how I felt. He went in a few minutes later and talked to the front of house girl. He said he talked to her about what happened, and how I felt about all of this. Her response was equally apathetic as Kim’s. She informed him they could take the temporary septum out or we could at home. We decided to have them take it out, they’re the “professionals.” I bled quite a bit on the car ride home. I went home and looked it up online. From what I’ve gathered, Kim pierced through the harder part of my septum, not just the soft cartilage. Compared to the side she didn’t mess up, it’s been more painful than it normally should for a well positioned septum. The healing process is known to be considerably longer for this mistake. I’m not sure I’ll want to try again after it heals. It was a traumatising feeling, the needle going into the thicker part, and feeling Kim’s hesitation, followed by what I surmise to be stubborn pride egg her on to just finish the job at the expense of admitting a mistake and starting over. The only consolation that was offered was a free re-pierce should I choose to come back. I don’t think I’ll be taking them up on that. No refund was offered. If you’re new to this world like I am/was, I don’t recommend this as a first time shop. Maybe not even as a place for veterans to piercing. Perhaps consider Zebra or anywhere else as a first option. I didn’t feel cared for by the staff. I didn’t feel welcomed as a newcomer to the body-modification community here. I hope the quality and attention to customer care improves here.

Experiencia negativa: So I haven’t spoken out about this incident due to humiliation and confusion. I went to the plug back in May 2024. My experience at the plug was very devastating. I came in and did a walk in which should’ve been my first red flag. I was overwhelmed with excitement and didn’t think through about what I was getting myself into but being at a professional shop I didn’t expect anything less. My tattoo done by Bucketz and was done on my hip was done so horribly and gotten infected. After weeks in the emergency room and doctor visits they found that the tattoo wasn’t done properly and safely. I’m hurt by this and ready to speak out.

Experiencia negativa: ROY, a guy who works here, made an ugly tattoo on me, and I didn't like it the way it came out, I went back to try and fix it, but this guy asked me for a $300 dollar deposit in order to make another design and do a cover up, but he never got me a good design, but he didn't return me back the deposit money neither, so i ended up spending $800 dollars with this guy, for something that I didn't even like it, his name is ROY

Experiencia negativa: This place has really gone downhill since Covid unfortunately. I had this piece done January 2021 by Vanessa and tried to come in to schedule a touch up with her since she did the original piece. She was extremely hostile, was insisting she didn’t do it, and then told me the shop doesn’t do pieces that big. As an artist, I wanted to offer her a chance to touch up her original piece but she was rude and dead set on convincing me she did not do the piece. I have all of our messages from the original appointment. Even if she didn’t remember me or the piece, I’m not sure why she was turning down a session request. When I got the piece she offered free touch ups when needed, I was totally willing to pay for a session with her, but her attitude was so unwelcoming. I will have to go elsewhere because this piece has been faded since the day I got it.

Experiencia negativa: Got my nipples pierced here and Kim put one on too far apart to the point that I got an infection and had to take them out - it was very painful and most jewelry would not fit. I was very disappointed with their service and quality of work, it is close to home but now I will make sure to go out of my way to find a more qualified piercer.

Experiencia negativa: I originally left a 5 star review for the services I was given in previous years, but my experience here has quickly soured. A few months ago, I communicated personally with one of the tattoo artists for a moderately large piece and paid the required security deposit and total of the tattoo. We had to end our session short due to the artist's personal reasons, which I understood. I then asked when we could continue the piece, and was given a date two weeks out. I waited until our appointment date, and once I arrived I was told it would be an additional cost to have the rest of my tattoo finished - this was not mentioned at all before. I was left to believe I had already paid for the entire tat. We had to cancel the second session because I could not afford making another payment, and I was told to reach out to reschedule whenever I had the funds. Well... that morning I messaged the artist asking how much it would be to have it finished, just to be ghosted. Now I have an unfinished tattoo on my arm and I have to find another artist to complete this unfinished work. Unfinished that was out of my control. Very unprofessional lack of communication and I will no longer be bringing my business here. I would not recommend The Plug to anyone. EDIT: The Plug has responded to this review saying they have "recently" spoke to this about me and that the artist I am writing about has not worked here ever since 2020. I got this tattoo in June of this year... Sounds like they’re either avoiding accountability, unaware of their employee’s work ethics, or both. Not a good look either way.

Experiencia negativa: Okay… two stars because my artist was entertaining, the shop was very clean, and they got me in for same day session. Unfortunately, the tattoo is pretty rough on the eyes. IF you only see it from far enough away, it looks great! But the line work is REALLY bad… like hilariously bad. Even more hilarious because the artist told me these were the straightest lines they’ve ever done , and they were holding their breath to be sure the lines were straight. I won’t call out the artist, but please don’t accept a detailed micro tattoo if it’s not in your wheel house . All artists have their strengths, but good gawd… it’s okay to turn a job away when it’s not a style you are comfortable with.

Would highly recommend to go to this area for a piercing, or if you have a already a piercing, but it not healing well. Staff can help to clean and facilitate the healing process of the piercing(s).

Experiencia negativa: My friend and I came in during late October. When my friend and I walked in, the lady at the front counter was super sweet, piercing wavers and stuff situated. That day my nose ring also happened to fall out, so I needed help getting that back in. The piercer seemed nice at first, but as my friend and I were asking questions, making casual conversation for the time being, she seemed very short with us and like she very obviously wanted to get us out. The piercer blunt forced my nose ring back into my nose, which, could have been worse. I'm not so mad about that, if she didnt do it, I wouldn't have. What I am pretty bummed about is when i went to my regular piercer up in the state where I live (3 months later), he told me that the placement of the septum piercing she did on me went through my nose cartilage, which, is not supposed to happen. I've since taken it out, and there is a raised scar that almost sticks out of my nostril. I dont know if that scar will be in the way of getting one where it's supposed to go, doubt it will, but that would suck super hard. She gave us no aftercare instructions until i asked about it, told me what my jewelry was made of after i asked when it was already in my nose. Update; friend went to another piercer and her tragus was pierced at an angle. Maybe it's worth spending a little more for a piercing to be done correctly.

Experiencia negativa: Do not go here for piercings! My bellybutton piercing is crooked, which means I’ll have to take it out and wait for it to heal before paying for a better piercer to redo it. I watched the video back of her piercing my bellybutton, and she totally went in sideways, making it completely crooked. I was tempted by the 5 piercings for $100, which can be shared amongst friends. The woman piercer acted like she wanted us out as soon as possible. She didn’t take time with me and my friend, who were clearly getting our first real piercings. The only question she asked us was what piercings we wanted, then had us out in under 10 minutes. Some people may like minimal talking, but if you’re with a client who clearly doesn’t know much about piercings, you should be teaching and talking to them about it. She was very aggressive in the way she handles the needle, especially going through the nose. I know good piercers are supposed to know anatomy and what piercings will work, but my nostril piercing pushes on the inside of my nose because of my deviated septum, which is super annoying. She also never gave us aftercare instructions. Turns out the aftercare instructions were on a business card she handed to us after the fact. So, it’s no shock to me that all of the bad reviews on here are for the piercings. You would think they would have good piercers considering their tattoo artists are great, but sadly, no. Don’t be tempted by the cheap piercings, there’s a reason they’re cheap.

Experiencia fantástica: Bam(ig is slavetothegrave) is an amazing tattoo artist! I followed awhile on Instagram until I finally got a tattoo. He has great all day session deals!! I have been to the plug 3 times now. Once last year getting a tattoo in June, again in August to get piercings for my son and I(we did the 5 piercings for $100) and again yesterday getting another tattoo. Bam knows how to work with the ideas given and comes up with beautiful work! I love both my tattoos, I do have to finish up this session due to no time to finish but can't wait! I hope to plan more tattoos in future. The Plug is clean and love the attention all the artists have to making sure it stays clean and neat. Everyone is friendly and love seeing the work environment in between the artists and clients.

Experiencia negativa: My friend and i got our belly buttons pierced almost a year ago (last summer). she got her top done and i got my bottom done (bc i already had a top belly button piercing). Her piercing ended up growing a ginormous bump (larger than a quarter) that looked like a hernia. she had to take her piercing out and almost had to get the numb surgically removed. my piercing never healed properly. it still hurts all the time and is crusting all the time…

Experiencia fantástica: I got 6 ear piercings and 1 septum piercing by Kim, I have been a loyal customer here since 2019. Even though I moved to Berkeley from Richmond, I’m still willing and more than happy to take a 1-hour-bus-trip to The Plug for my new piercings and tattoos (in the future). I love Kim, I can not handle pain really well and she made everything smooth, fast and charming by whispering while poking the needle through my ears/nose. Professional! Price is unbeatable compared to those in Berkeley such as Industrial and Zebra. Definitely recommend

I forgot who it was who did my piercing but he was very good, thorough, and chill. Sharky was the one who did my stitch tattoo and all I'm going to say is he was fantastic. Not too heavy of a hand and I almost fell asleep sitting in the chair. Highly recommend him and most likely the others.

Experiencia fantástica: 2 days, I went to the place to get my first nose piercing. I heard that price was $25, and it was a worth a price. The one was over there at Berkeley called Industrial Tattoo cost $90, but I couldn’t afford that. So I went in there and greet the piercer only to pay $25 for this nose piercing. I loved this place.

Experiencia fantástica: The Plug is my go to place in the East Bay to get pierced, hands down. Compared to Industrial and Zebra in Berkeley, it's the best of both worlds. You can walk in on the weekend and wait less than an hour for an appointment. On weekdays it's even faster. You can also schedule an appointment in advance if that's your preference, online or on the phone. The best part in my opinion is that they have a piercing deal - 5 for $100 flat. So my partner and I have done that deal twice now. Yesterday I got a septum and eyebrow piercing and my partner got two helixes and two upper lobes... and fun fact: 2 lobe piercings are conveniently priced as one! Furthermore, the staff is so friendly! Every time that we've been there, the receptionists have been super informative and kind and the piercers have been highly skilled, professional, careful to listen to our preferences, and patient. It's always a fun time at The Plug. I definitely recommend.

I went here a few days ago for two nose piercings and had two friends with me, we all did the 5 piercings for 100 dollars and best part you can split it between three people!!! I got two nose piercings, one nostril and my septum. We booked under Smash, he has 12 years under his belt. I at first preferred a girl because I’m a girl myself but I’m very happy now we booked with him, he made me and my friends feel so comfortable and went around what we thought was best for us (even tho I made a wrong decision because my adrenaline ran out) he pierced my nostril beautifully. This is where I messed up i took like a five minute break and then got my septum done and totally freaked I didn’t move but my mouth did, he stayed so calm and got it through. My piercing look so straight and already healing very good!! I thank him so much and recommend everyone to go to Smash!!!!

No I'm not to say what he did or who he is. I just know I will never get anything done there again. Sad it's really sad. No I'm not going to call. I'm just going to find another place. The guy was rude to me and unprofessional.

Experiencia fantástica: Got my ears pierced it was fairly pain less and quick would recommend. A lil step in prices but worth the money

Experiencia negativa: Got my ear pierced and of course there was swelling but the piercer uses such small bars so there’s no room for the sweeping process and my piercing popped off. Contacted the shop and they told me there’s pretty much nothing they can do for me unless I want to come in and get pierced again including a fee. Which is not the best idea. Why would I want to Repierce my ear while it’s still open and swollen on top of using the same size bar. She told me to order a different size bar on Amazon. As a piercer you should have multi size bars. Makes no sense at all.

Experiencia fantástica: I went in a few weeks go to get a tattoo from Aliyha and it was such a wonderful experience. She made me feel really comfortable and answered any questions/concerns I had. If you are thinking of getting a tattoo/piercing here please don’t hesitate to do It. I will be getting more work done from here again soon

Experiencia negativa: I got 2 piercings last week by Kim and she used small bars for both new piercings and left no room for the healing process knowing piercing cause swellings. One piercing is super swollen and tight due the small bar not having enough room and the other piercings totally popped off. Very irritating a waste of time and money didn’t even last a week in my ear …

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter and I both got nose piercings by Kim. It went really well. She’s friendly, fast and professional. We didn’t have an appointment but they squeezed us in. The wait wasn’t very long at all. We will definitely come back again.

Experiencia fantástica: I got my nose piercing done by Kim and it went well. Later happened that my nose started to swell too much for the 8mm stud so I went back and Smash swapped it out for a longer one like nothing. I was a bit worried it would hurt because of the swelling but I barley felt it. I Immediately got a third piercing afterwards with smash lol.

Experiencia positiva: Kim rocked it and made me feel comfortable. The place is super sterile and spacious. They offer tons of jewelry for all types of body modifications. Big comfy couches sit in the lobby and they are wheelchair accessible. Best to set an appointment and you have to sign a waiver that can be found on their web site.

Experiencia fantástica: I went to The Plug yesterday to get a nose piercing and my very first tattoo. I was very pleased with how clean the shop was and how friendly & professional everyone is. I had an 11am nostril piercing with Smash and we were right on time. At first I was nervous about it but his calm presence, professionalism and kindness helped calm my nerves. If I ever decide to get another piercing done or have friends looking to get piercings, I strongly recommend Smash! He’s an excellent piercer & very patient. I also had a tattoo appointment for 12pm with Aliyha Perry. My appointment was moved to 1pm due to another client showing up late, which was no fault of her own, but she notified me immediately so that I wouldn’t be left sitting at the shop waiting. I appreciate her communication skills! Once she sat me down, we went over my artwork & she exceeded my expectations!!! Aliyha is also very professional, clean & a talented artist all around. I’m very happy with my tattoo and can’t wait to see it fully healed. I look forward to have another piece done by her in the next few months, she’s everything I looked for in an artist! Experiencia negativa: The Plug STEALS art from artist who specifically do not allow third-parties to use their flashes, then claims harassment when customers call them out for it. Straight THIEVES. They can’t check for consent from artists or own their wrong doings — you DO NOT want these kind of LAZY, UNPROFESSIONAL people anywhere near your skin, much less with a needle in hand.

It was busy at the time they have a person at the front desk now I forgot her name but she has the bluest eyes she was very attentive and nice I bought some jewelry and the price was amazing this place is a whole vibe I will be back.
