Fantastic experience: Me and my friend came in later in the night after being turned down by a few places. The vibe at this place was great and so were the people!

Negative experience: I visited the shop around 5:15 PM on Saturday, September 6th, with my brother, his girlfriend, my mom, and a friend. I was interested in getting my nose re-pierced and possibly having some jewelry changed. As soon as we walked in, two men who had been sitting and chatting in the lobby stood up and walked to the back without greeting us or acknowledging our presence. It felt abrupt and dismissive. A woman with blue and green dyed hair approached us, looked our group over, and asked what we were there for. I explained what I was looking for, and she informed me that the piercer was out sick—which I completely understand. I then asked about pricing for a small tattoo on my brother’s chest (Roman numerals for a birthday), as it would be his first tattoo. Her response was curt and dismissive: she stated prices start at $120–$150 “even if it’s just for a dot.” We thanked her for the information and left, but I was left feeling extremely disappointed by the overall experience. Our group of five was not greeted, welcomed, or treated with basic courtesy. The way the two men left the lobby as soon as we entered felt unprofessional and uninviting, and the attitude we received from the staff member we did speak with came off as cold and uninterested. We came in genuinely excited and ready to support a local business, but unfortunately, the lack of professionalism and hospitality left a lasting negative impression.

Negative experience: Felt extremely unwelcome. Which is fine ig, I decided to spend my money elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Great staff and so kind. I came in to get a piercing stud changed. Everyone was so kind and helpful and my ear feels so much better now.

Fantastic experience: I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional service I received from Zach. He did an awesome job with my septum piercing! Even though I had my septum pierced before and it had been over a year since I took it out, Zach took the time to check if he could reopen it. He mentioned a technical term for this process, but I can't recall it at the moment. After his examination, he concluded that it would be better to pierce it again. The entire process was incredibly smooth and professional, and Zach's expertise was evident throughout. I also want to highlight the front desk receptionist, who was very kind, friendly, and awesome as well. The overall experience was a solid 10/10, and I can't wait until the end of August to come back to Zach for him to switch my horse shoe to the bull ring (clamp). I don't recall the exact name, but I hope you know what I mean! Thank you again for the fantastic service, and I look forward to my next visit.

Negative experience: Having worked in a professional piercing studio myself, I was hoping for a positive experience when I stopped by to buy a new piercing for my low-placed septum. Unfortunately, neither my friend nor I felt very welcomed by the front desk staff. Despite explaining my specific needs and the jewelry I’ve used for years, there was some disagreement, and I ended up purchasing jewelry that didn’t fit. It wasn’t until I asked again that they acknowledged my lower-placed septum, but we didn’t receive any further guidance beyond that. My friend did have a great experience with the male piercer in the back, but we were both disappointed with the front desk customer service, which didn’t meet the professional standards I’ve come to expect. No one wants to spend money where they aren’t treated well.

Fantastic experience: I stopped by to check out this shop and was immediately impressed by its spacious, well-designed layout. The staff, especially shop manager Terr, were incredibly welcoming—Terr listened attentively, answered all my questions thoroughly, and made me feel right at home. The entire experience was seamless and pleasant, thanks to her professionalism and genuine care. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: I've had 5 tattoos done here by 3 different artists over about a 13 year span. I recently went for a nose piercing and had a perfectly pleasant experience. However, I showed up for a walk in tattoo shortly after and was refused service. There appeared to only be 1 artist, but no business. He was lounging on the couch when I arrived. He kept trying to tell me he couldn't do the colors in my tattoo the way I wanted it. I offered to modify it so it would be easier and fit within the space I wanted. He just blatantly refused to do it claiming it would fade and it wouldn't look right years down the road. I have 19 tattoos currently, most with lots of color, and some almost 2 decades old. My skin holds color really well. He very clearly just didn't want to work and/or was refusing because it was an LGBTQ+ tattoo. Not sure what the issue was. However, I found a place nearby that took me in right away and did the modified version to fit exactly where I wanted it and it looks great!! I guess dude at OM just didn't feel like making $210 yesterday. They'll never make anything off of me again anyway.

Positive experience: The two that helped me locate gauges for my ears were great. I also have a conch piercing that I had done somewhere else, and I was able to find the perfect earring to add. He was great cleaning and adding the jewelry to my ear. It’s been so long since I had my gauges sized.

Fantastic experience: The manager and todays tattoo artist (I apologize I didnt catch your name!) were both extremely friendly, helpful and kind. I got an earring jammed in my tragus and mustve threaded the back. They got it out without pain and schooled me on what guage and jewelry I should go with after this heals (I ripped a hole trying to get it out last night). Definitely will be back! Pressure relieved and day made! Thank you isnt a strong enough word. ❤️

Fantastic experience: I got two piercings today — forward helix + the conch. Upon walking in, the girl at the front was extremely welcoming. I wish I got her name because she was awesome from the jump. I was open on what piercings I wanted in my ear; she recommended the conch and I love it. She was super helpful when choosing my jewelry. Then Green did my piercings and also changed my jewelry on an old piercing. What a cool, talented, and knowledgeable guy. I’ll definitely be back! Thanks y’all!

Fantastic experience: I recently had my ear pierced at Ocean Mystique's Norfolk and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Britt at the front desk was incredibly attentive, assisting me in selecting the perfect earring by patiently explaining the various sizes and colors available. Her guidance made me feel confident in my choice of choosing green color earring. The piercer, Green, was equally fantastic, offering a teddy bear for comfort when I mentioned I was nervous, which was a thoughtful touch. The procedure itself was surprisingly painless, and I experienced no discomfort in the days following. Their aftercare support is exemplary, providing a kit and reassuring me that I could contact them anytime if needed. I am thoroughly impressed by the friendly and professional atmosphere and I am already planning my next visit. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! the two girls who work here are extremely rude. if you ask a simple question they answer with unnecessary attitude. and they are extremely overpriced here. they charged a friend of mine $7 to get her jewelry back in her nose. i got charged $42 for a piece of jewelry. i would give zero stars if i could.

Negative experience: DO NOT GO HERE!!! it’s so over priced! i got my nose pierced and it’s SEVERELY INFECTED. i’ve had multiple piercings and on my nose too. i called the lady because i have to go to the HOSPITAL due to this infection and i followed every protocol to clean it. she said i cannot get a refund and she was rude and told me it was basically MY fault. i’m so mad and out of 70$ for a peircing that sent me to the EMERGENCY ROOM.

Negative experience: I've had an eye piercing for over 15 years. I purchased 2 eye piercing rings for $40 in less than 1.5 month. Both if them the bottom ball keep coming off. Only jewelry purchased here that, this has happened. I believe it's intentional by screwing it loosely to come back to purchase more or the jewelry isn't good quality...either way came to get the ball replaced 3rd time ....will never return

Fantastic experience: Walked in needing help putting an earring back in- they took me in immediately! Pony was awesome and fast! I ended up getting another piercing while I was there. The place was clean and everyone was nice!

Negative experience: The staff out front was not very friendly as we had children with us. There was a sign on the window saying no one under 15 allowed in the shop. We were 2 mom's with a handful of children and wanted to do three piercings. They acted like we couldn't read. We just wanted to get checked in which we couldn't do since we didn't have the appropriate info for our teenagers. After that then yes take the kids back out of the shop, but no need to tell us about the kids. Definitely will not be back. The piercer was great.

Fantastic experience: I got my first tattoo here today. Everyone in there was amazing. All of the staff were super inviting and informative. The environment was perfect and made me super comfortable. Totally recommend!

Negative experience: I just felt like I was rushed and a major inconvenience when I was trying to schedule an appointment. Also very overpriced. Not worth it. Definitely wouldn’t recommend unless you want to over pay.

Fantastic experience: My names Joe, and I had a great experience here. I've now been tattooed at a lot of different shops around the country. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more timely with helping me get the work done that I wanted. I asked @cookieleetattooer to tattoo my fingers and I will definitely be returning to this shop with anything else I'd like to get done here.

Negative experience: Very disappointed the service was very unexpected and rude! The owner is very disrespectful and just lost 5 customers. Needs to stay off TikTok especially when it comes down to serious questions. We asked a serious question about wanted piercings and got a rude answer and pushed away. Especially when it comes down to service and body. Body shame is not acceptable at all.

Fantastic experience: Myself and my daughter have only had wonderful experiences with this shop. Note they are the original Ocean Mystique not the phony one going by the same name I. Virginia Beach. The staff here are knowledgeable, helpful, and super friendly. I recommend anyone wanting safe and top of the line quality materials and service to come here. I cannot wait to start work on my sleeve!!!

Negative experience: I went to get my nose piercing removed and I asked if I could go clean my nose with something and the go says “no you can buy something” I just wanted to wipe my nose out it was disgusting inside. He attitude was terrible

Negative experience: I went in about two weeks ago to get my septum pierced and at first glance I was amazed at how clean and welcoming the shop was. When the gentleman (can’t remember his name) started my septum prep I wasn’t asked about placement or how it looked before it was pierced. Over the last week the right side has been in so much pain. Turns out the septum WAS PIERCED CROOKED!!! I am so disappointed and so upset. I loved my septum but unfortunately I decided to take it out to heal closed and just go somewhere else to get it redone. For my first piercing (besides my ears) I am truly annoyed. I hope better is done in the future.

Fantastic experience: This is NOT your grandfather's tattoo parlor. The lobby is spacious, well lit, and inviting. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always professional. The tattoo areas are a bit small, in my opinion, but they are clean, well furnished, and private. This is the first place I go to get ink done. Best tattoo shop I've ever been to. (And I have been tattooed from here to Turkiey!)

Negative experience: I did a walk in and got my septum pierced here it appeared to be in the wrong spot and would move every time I smile or move my mouth I wouldn’t recommend here I ended up having to take my piercing out because I didn’t want it getting any worse than it already was:(

Fantastic experience: Went to AJ multiple times in the last 3 weeks! Once was with my best friend, got a Saturn and my husbands initials. The second time took my husband to get his and then today (third time) got my rose. He’s professional and personable at the same time, honest (which is great if you don’t like sugar coat), laid back, and is willing to work through ideas. Such a great time and experience every time!

Positive experience: Went here to purchase a replacement ball for my septum. The lady at the front was very pretty and knowledgeable, but had a bit of an attitude and made me feel kind of stupid. She did give me 2 balls just in case and I really appreciate it, but honestly I'd have to say I prefer Artisan over in the Military Circle area due to their customer service.

Fantastic experience: Walked in and was greeted immediately by a super nice girl who helped my sister and I pick out jewelry. We only waited like 5 minutes and then we went to the back and got pierced (septum and nose) by this awesome guy (i think his name was Johnny - he had creature from the black lagoon art everywhere and I’m sorry if i got your name wrong!) He was really funny and made the experience fun and enjoyable. It was quick and probably the most painless piercings i’ve ever gotten. I’m SO happy with the placement of my piercings. they look amazing. Would definitely recommend this place!!!

Negative experience: The woman that pierced my ears was not very friendly. I tried making small talk and she didn't respond. I waited 5 months for my upper lobe piercings to heal so I could change the jewlery and put more noticeable earrings in. Once I did this I realized that my piercings are uneven and it now drives me crazy. Really dissapointed that I spent $50 and now I have to take them out and get them repeirced evenly.

Negative experience: It's a nice place and not all the employees are bad people, but when it gets to a point where I've tried on two occasions to get a tattoo with them, something is wrong. This is the first shop I've ever been to. In 2019 the female employee was unwelcoming, and unhelpful. Made me feel stupid for coming. Second time in 2021 was sketchy. There is a column in the Google overview that says book an appointment and I used it, thinking it would work. That's why I gave them a chance. But I ended up having to contact the artists on Instagram(based on a list of their artist insta profiles that they have copies of) and DM what I want. I contacted 1 of them, and the artist responded over a month later. By then, my mood was killed regarding this place. I didn't think getting a tattoo would be this difficult, and I dislike the way they book. It would be easier if they could get the artists that are already at the shop, and be able to talk to them like the other shops I've been to instead of relying on a response on Instagram. It would be faster. I'd be surprised if they take walk-ins, because I couldn't even get an appointment. FYI, when I made the appointment on Google, someone replied to me, saying come to the shop. That's why I thought it would get somewhere, and have an appointment.

Fantastic experience: I just got a tattoo here and was very pleased with the results and with all the folks at Norfolk Ink Gallery. Jaz was the artist who made my idea a reality and, let me say, he's pretty awesome! Not only is he a very talented artist, he was also incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. Also thanks to Jackie who did a little photoshopping to help speed up the design process! And maybe it goes without saying with a 5 star tattoo shop, but it was very clean and everyone was very professional about their work. I can't wait till my tattoo is all healed so I can really appreciate Jaz's work! Overall, I had a great experience here and will definitely come back for future tattoos!

Fantastic experience: I've been watching Shannon's work on IG for awhile and when I decided to get another tattoo, I was lucky enough to get a walk-in with her. She is fun, personable, informative, quick, and diligent. She does great work, and even though it'll make it harder for me to see her in the future, I highly recommend her :-). Fantastic experience: My roommates and I all wanted to do a random tattoo night and I am so happy we went here! The studio was very clean and put together, all the staff was amazing. Jaz (Jazz?) did my tattoo and was very good, really nice work, very pleasant conversation and very talented at what he does. I will 100% be coming back for more!!

Negative experience: My wife and I went in today to inquire about a hand tattoo. The woman at the front sounded a little confused by our request but said she would ask the tattoo artist taking walk ins if he was willing to do a hand tattoo when he got back from lunch. We hung out in the lobby for about 20 minutes just waiting. The guy must’ve come back and the same receptionist came up to us and said “Yeah everyone here says ‘hell no’ to doing that tattoo. That’s pretty much the consensus you’ll get at every shop.” and walked away. No “thanks for waiting” or “sorry we don’t do those types of tattoos” but instead just a “hell no”. It was super rude and off putting. We understand not every tattoo artist/shop is willing to do hand/finger tattoos and we’re totally cool with that, but the way we were talked to was super condescending and borderline embarrassing. We were hoping to come back to this shop for some larger pieces in the future, but don’t feel comfortable bringing ideas to this shop anymore if that’s the way they treat their customers. I’m not one to normally write reviews, but the experience was super off putting and uncomfortable for my wife and I. We will definitely be looking at different shops in the future where this isn’t the customer service experience.

Fantastic experience: Yesterday i walked into this business looking to get a septum and nostril piercing. The lady’s behind the counter where really helpful and explained prices and the different kinds of jewelry they had. I waited maybe 15-20 mins before I was call on. The artist Pony was super cool and did a amazing job. He also explained aftercare. I was super nervous getting my piercing but they made my feel comfortable and worry free. Thank you so much for this amazing piercing. I’m absolutely in love.

Fantastic experience: No place really likes walk-ins despite what they say on the door and they really aren't shy about letting you know. We went to two other tattoo shops before trying this one. These people were friendly and inviting. The reception was completely opposite of both places we had gone before. They helped us find the right images and the actual tattoos came out great. My daughter and I are both delighted with our newest tattoos. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I came here for our anniversary to get some tattoos and they turned out amazing!!!!! Our artist Jackie Spillane was very professional and really took the time to make sure that what we were getting was really what we wanted. He was respectful and we really enjoyed our time here. We will definitely be going back to him for our future tattoo needs!! The front desk staff was also very helpful and respectful giving us any information we asked for and over all it was just a good experience from the moment we walked in to when we walked out!!

Fantastic experience: I’m very happy with my piercings I received. I got overall 7 piercings in a two week span by two different piercers. Both were great and courteous. They exceeded my expectations and I’m definitely going to get more piercings in the near future. I got two ear piercings on both sides, one piercing on my left nostril, and two piercings on my right nostril.

Negative experience: Front desk reception was extremely unprofessional. Stood around for 30 minutes without a single person offering assistance while people that came in after me were getting seen because they were there for piercings. Even if I’m not there for a piercing, they should be asking if they could help me out with anything. Unprofessional in my opinion. Edit: the issue was certainly not the 1 person in line ahead of me, rather the 5 people who came in after me and were helped first.

Fantastic experience: They were all very nice and understanding. I first went there in December and they were very nice but I didn't go again until about April, with a new idea on top of that. The first time I went in I got in on the table and chickened out, they quickly refunded me the full amount and when I came back today they were just as nice as before. I highly recommend them for anyone getting their first tattoo as this was mine and I will definitely be going back if I ever figure out what I want my next one to be.

Positive experience: Pretty good. They are first come first served and it took about 2.5 hours before my wife could get her tattoo when they told us 1-1.5 hours. The artist that did my wife's work was good but a bit pricey.

Negative experience: Called this place ahead of time and was told I could get a piercing as long as I arrive before the set time we talked about. I arrived punctual and a rude associate proceeds to tell me the piercer isn’t available to do piercing so come back tomorrow have a good night. Nothing else. After I was already confirmed on the phone. No courtesy phone call back after wasting my time to get there. Just rude and unprofessional establishment. Do not recommend.

Fantastic experience: I came here for my first tattoo in January 2020 and Jackie took my vague ideas and turned them into a beautiful dot worked mandala and flower hip piece. When I was ready for another, I came back with an equally vague idea and, once again, Jackie came up with something brilliant! I will definitely be coming back for more!

Fantastic experience: I love this place! I come here for all my piercing and stretched earlobe needs lol. They’re very helpful, I went in to get some plugs and they even measured my ears and put them in for me. They definitely did not have to do all of that, and it was very much appreciated. I recommend all of my friends here, they’re great people! Hoping to get my first tattoo from here sometime soon as well.

Fantastic experience: So my fiancé occasionally suffers from migraines. One night she was having a really bad one. I know if you get your daith pierced that it is supposed to help with migraines. It was late, like after 8pm. Ocean Mystique in Norfolk said they were open till 10pm, and they will take care of it. We drove there from Suffolk and with very little wait the piercer came and took my fiancé to the back. Just a few minutes later she is done. She woke up the next morning without her migraine. Thank you Ocean Mystique!

Fantastic experience: Initially visited this location and had a sub-par experience. I left a review addressing it and the owner himself replied to remedy the situation. He honored the gift certificate we had and did my girlfriend's tattoo himself, which came out great. She had nothing but good things to say after leaving so this is an edited review to reflect how hard they tried to fix the situation. Fantastic experience: I love this place along with the staff. I got a tattoo in august and I expected pain and the usual crusting over Etc.. I didn’t have any of that and my tat is awesome ! The artist which I can’t remember his name was very friendly and talkative . This will be my go to place for my next tat!

Fantastic experience: I went here for my double nostril piercing and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had in a shop. The woman who helped me pick out jewelry and cashed me out was super helpful and knowledgeable! My piercer was very friendly, immediately put me at ease, and was everything I would expect from a professional piercer in terms of sterilization and safety. I would absolutely go back here for any additional piercings and jewelry changes.

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience last week and would highly recommend Ocean Mystique. I’m new to the area but plan on getting all future tattoos here. All the staff are super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and are just great! AJ was my tattoo artist & he is super cool/awesome. As well as an amazing artist. I got branches, with birds to represent miscarriages I’ve had, and I love that I can add to it in hopes I have a healthy pregnancy/baby soon! If you want a quality tattoo artist that’s clean, friendly, and knowledgeable this is the place to go! I said I wouldn’t get any more tattoos, but I felt very comfortable here. I look forward to coming back soon for more work.

Fantastic experience: Great clean place. Love the way they have the place set up. Its so warm and welcoming. Beautiful detail in the design of their space. It doesn't look like a typical tattoo & piercing shop. Most of all Pony is awesome, sweetest and most gentle person I've ever met. I would definitely recommend him for anything you need there plus its a great friendly place all a round. Very happy and will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience: I visited Norfolk Ink Gallery for the first time about a week ago and my first impression was very positive! The atmosphere is very inviting and clean. The girls at the counter were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. My 15 yo daughter Wanted to get her ears pierced and Keegan was great helping her pick out her jewelry and aftercare products. Pony did her piercing. I was impressed with his professionalism and cleanliness of the room. I also decided to get a tattoo which I was a little indecisive and nervous about. Joe and Tayla helped helped me find a design I love and Joe did an amazing job on the finished product!! I’m very happy with my new tattoo. I have already recommended this place to a few friends and will definitely go back!!

Fantastic experience: AJ was the best! My first tattoo experience was amazing. I'll definitely go back. They took really good care of me and my 2 daughters and since I was so nervous the staff was extra accommodating. Even got a free t-shirt! Great experience!!

Negative experience: I’ve never felt so unwelcome in a tattoo shop before. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by a guy with a super stank/dismissive attitude. He told my friend that he would not pierce her ear because he didn’t feel like it. He also told me that my tattoo idea was dumb and it wouldn’t look right on me. I didn’t ask for his opinion, I asked for his service. Will not be returning and I certainly do not recommend this place to anyone.

Negative experience: I called Wednesday about getting a tattoo for myself and to surprise my daughter with her first tattoo for her 19th birthday. I was told they open at 10 and it was first come first served. We got there at 10 and told the receptionist what we wanted. After waiting for a hour one of the artist came in and looked at what we wanted. He SAID I'm not wasting my time on doing a small tattoo. We got up and left. Extremely unprofessional. The receptionist said other artist are coming in but didn't have a exact time because they were suppose to be there at 10. Highly disappointed. My daughter wanted the letter L in memory of her grandmother. You might want to teach your artist not to talk bad in front of paying customers. I would have respected your company if he would have taken us in a room to discuss what could or couldn't have been done. With or without the tattoo she had a fabulous birthday. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. With that being said, no we will not be back but we wish you luck with your business

Fantastic experience: was able to set up an appt quick, sent photos of what I wanted. Easy going to talk to artists. From what I understand they had some remodeling done, so the shop looks amazing. Good experience.
