Fantastic experience: This is by far the best and loveliest place to get a tattoo. The staff is amazingly friendly and provides an atmosphere, that is just awesome. I felt like being with friends and the studio looks sooooo cool. Especially Meg is such a sweet lady and always has such an amazing energy, which makes the whole process soooo easy. The prices are also absolutely fair. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic experience at Black Rabbit! I live 1 hour and 30 minutes away, but I wanted to make the trip to get a tattoo here because I was under the impression it was a safe and welcoming space. When I say it was exactly that, it was! The aethetic is top notch and everyone there was so nice. I highly recommend coming here if you are nervous about your experience, especially with Raigan! She was so kind and patient and made my day. 10/10 would recommend!

Negative experience: My daughter and I have been visiting tattoo shops in our area, getting ready to get new tattoos in the next couple of months. Black rabbit has great reviews online but boy did we have a terrible first experience! We walked in, 3 girls sitting at the counter. The girl in the middle said “ how can we help you.” My daughter said that we were looking for a new artist for her next tattoo. She said she was excited about their shop because she really wanted a female to do her next tattoo. I’m not sure how that was offensive but the girl said “we prefer to be called a queer shop.” I’m pretty sure the sign on the front of the store that says “girls, girls, girls”means they have female artists and service females right? From that moment on she was condescending and rude and not at all interested in what kind of tattoos we wanted. I just shut up and put my phone away with my inspiration picture I was going to show them. My daughter tried to be polite and started explaining what she wanted. The young lady continued to be curt and clearly not interested. She just said to look at their website. Interesting that on their website they clearly state there is “ no judgement” in their shop when we were judged terribly. So you assumed we aren’t queer I guess and I guess we can’t get a tattoo from you because of that? What the hell! Maybe your artists do great tattoos but that was a terrible way to treat people. And the 2 girls sitting around her never said a word or even looked up. One of them had a little smile on her face like she was amused by all this. Obviously we won’t be going there and I will make sure all my friends know what we think of this shop.

Fantastic experience: Hello! I just wanted to give a shoutout to Tosha. I came into Black Rabbit from MANY recommendations with people around Richmond. I am a blank canvas and just wanted information since I’ve never got a tattoo. She was super friendly and helpful, answered all my questions very patiently, and helped me get in touch with two artists I look forward to working with in the future. After being treated like I was a bit stupid in other locations I won’t mention her service was impeccable and it was a breath of fresh air. Will definitely be doing my business here in the future not only cause of the reputation of the artists but also because of Tosha. Thanks!

Fantastic experience: Black Rabbit is a really welcoming and neat shop where all the tattoo artists are talented. I decided to work with Alyssa and I couldn't have been happier. While it's never number one on my list to have my tattoo artist be friendly and personable, it is important to me to be able to have an artist I can feel comfortable being around for 6+ hours. Alyssa was incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. She made what can definitely be an uncomfortable process into something that went by pretty quickly, despite not being very quick at all. As for the art she did, Alyssa doesn't do art that's 1 to 1. Instead, she keeps the essence of the tattoo and keeps true to the character she's working on, but she adds her own flair to make them adorable. I personally love kawai, chibi, cute tattoos and my new Rosalina and Luma tattoo from Alyssa still managed to exceed my expectations. It came out way better than I could have pictured in my head. Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience getting tattooed by EK! He was super friendly and awesome to talk to, and honestly I think the work speaks for itself! Also, it was super easy to book with him and he was awesome enough to stay late to accommodate to my schedule. I’m definitely coming back!

Fantastic experience: 10000/10 tattoo experience. I went with my best friend today to get matching tattoos with Raigan and we were both blown away by the experience. We both have plenty of tattoos and so are familiar with the process/vibes/etc. First impressions- the shop is gorgeous and heavily decorated in anime and other kinds of art (including some k-pop pieces at artists’ stations that we appreciated). The front desk person was friendly, charming, and helpful. Raigan came up and showed us the design she had made, with different options for us to choose. We were immediately happy with it the way it was but I’m sure she would have been very receptive to feedback. The tattooing process was extremely chill. The artists all chatted freely which gave everything a cool, comfortable vibe. The main topic of conversation was anime which we also really vibed with. Raigan did an AMAZING job on our tattoos. It’s my favourite tattoo out of all the ones I’ve gotten. She was very informative, knew what she was talking about, was very knowledgeable about using colour on darker skin (for my friend), and had a light gentle hand. Seriously look at this line work it’s so good. I’ll be coming back to Black Rabbit for my next tattoos for sure. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: My Fiancee and I wanted a simple script word on each of our wrists as a couple tattoo for our wedding. I was really happy when they said they could fit us in right then and there! The vibes of the shop are so cute! The walls are pink and there is artwork everywhere. Staff was welcoming and accommodating to us. They only charged us $75 for each of our tattoos, with is such an amazing price. The tattoo itself took about 15-20 minutes. My artist was Hades Cabrera and I 100% recommend.

Tannis is such a great artist, bringing my inspo to life and being so kind and good at what she does. This shop has such a great atmosphere and all of the artists are so nice. Fantastic experience: I have gotten tattooed at Black Rabbit 10+ times and it is always a delight. Everyone is always so kind and considerate, including the front desk workers and all of the artists regardless of whether they're tattooing me or not. I have pieces from multiple artists that are all absolutely amazing. Black Rabbit is also an amazing safe space for queer and femme people like me. I had left after one of my appointments that went until dark, and noticed a man watching me as I used a nearby ATM. The Black Rabbit crew was kind enough to let me back inside to hang around until my ride arrived, despite them all cleaning up and getting ready to go home since it was late. I never once felt like a burden as they all expressed they would rather have me safe inside the building. Everyone here is amazingly sweet and equally as talented. I always feel safe here.

Negative experience: I decided to write this review two years later because I still think about my experience here, everyday. I had walked in to get a simple tattoo and have regretted it ever since. Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of my artist but I do know what they look like. The tattoo i got was extremely bad quality. The lines are very shaky and I've had other artists tell me how bad the tattoo is LOL. When I asked to get the lines fixed, they told me the only way I could get it done without a charge would be if I went back to the same artist, who originally did it which I was not comfortable with. For reference the tattoo is a bit bigger than a quarter and I paid $100.... I would not recommend coming here because it really doesn't seem like they care when their artists make a mistake nor should anyone who can't make a proper line be working there.

Fantastic experience: I’ve gotten tattoos from two separate artists (Kim and Hannah) and I’ve had such awesome experiences with both of them! Everyone there has been super kind and communicative whenever I’ve gone, and I plan on continuing to visit this shop!

Fantastic experience: I've been to Black Rabbit many times and have always had a fantastic experience. Every single one of their artists are incredibly talented and the staff at the front desk are super friendly and helpful. On my most recent visit, I had 3 people who wanted to get tattoos in the spur of the moment and the shop took care of all three of us, with @Risutattoo (On IG) giving us some beautiful line work and color. I highly recommend this shop(as well as their location in Forest Hill), and will absolutely be back in the future.

Fantastic experience: I apologize in advance because this is a late review for a tattoo I got back in November of 2024. This was my first tattoo at this location and I would be very happy to get more tattoos from their skilled artists in the future. I would also recommend this location to anyone interested in getting a tattoo. (They also have another location, Black Rabbit Foresthill, and from their posts on Instagram I'd be interested in getting a tattoo from one of their artists as well.) I had the pleasure of getting an anime tattoo from Hannah (99hannahrae on Instagram) on my inner forearm as a gift to myself for my birthday. This was the first time getting tattooed since my last one 13 years ago and this was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I got my favorite character Mereoleona Vermillion and Hannah did an amazing job. Hannah was very easy to talk to and it was a great time talking to them about anime that we liked. She recommend anime that I hadn't heard of "Ace of the Diamond" and "Wind Breaker," and I have become a fan of "Wind Breaker" after watching first episode with "Ace of the Diamond" next on my watch list. The location was very nice and the shop had and amazing vibe with artwork on the walls. Every artist had their own space decorated with their interests. They also had a TV in the corner playing Attack on Titan which helped pass the time during the tattoo and was nice to have some entertainment while waiting after checking in. Everyone I interacted with from when I checked in to when I checked out was pleasant and very kind. The check-in/waiting area had a lot room, plenty of seating and folders with flash designs of the artists for those waiting to look through. Overall it was worth driving down from the DMV area and I would recommend anyone who was interested in getting a tattoo to visit this location!!!

Fantastic experience: This was my second time getting a tattoo at Black Rabbit and I honestly can't find myself going anywhere else. Hannah is AMAZING and such a delight. She is very detail-oriented and patient, taking her time to make sure you're happy with the stencil, the placement and your overall experience. She would constantly check to make sure I was ok, if I needed a quick stretch break, and was comfortable chatting but also comfortable with silence while I read my book. The shop is clean, I never have an issue with parking and all the artists are inviting and friendly. I will definitely continue going to Hannah for any future tattoos and highly recommend Black Rabbit, all the artists are elite.

Fantastic experience: Had my hand tattooed by Tannis back in February. I was super nervous, but she was very kind & professional. I love her style, and she did an amazing job with my idea. My fiancé Jason also had a small tattoo done by one their apprentices, which turned out awesome. The shop itself is the nicest I’ve ever been to. Definitely gonna be our go-to place for tattoos here in Richmond.

Fantastic experience: i have gotten over 20 tattoos here and there’s a good reason for that. the artists are insanely talented and the environment is SO warm and welcoming. the pricing is very reasonable, especially for the incredible quality of work you’ll be getting. some of the artists can be hard to get an appointment with, but it’s literally because their work is so good that their books fill up quickly. suffice to say, there’s a reason i’ve gotten almost all of my tattoos here.

Fantastic experience: I have gotten 2 tattoos from Black Rabbit Tattoo - Cary town and had very good experiences. First i got a bunny with Caitlin, who is still an apprentice. Despite being an apprentice, she was very professional and i was very happy with the bunny. Would definitely get more tattoos with her in the future! Next, i went to Hannah to get my Goku tattoo. This was also a very good experience. Very happy with the tattoo, and Hannah also agreed to do a subsequent tattoo for my girlfriend despite it not being a subject matter she was particularly interested in which was very kind. My friends also arrived towards the last hour as we were intending to shop after, and she did a good job dealing with me and my friends, even though were being obnoxious, which is much appreciated. Will definitely try and get in her books again once i have the money. Great experience for both tattoos!

Negative experience: Personally I wouldn’t go anywhere near this place :/ the owner or whoever is in charge of Lost Cause Tattoo gets a kick out of commenting rude things on tattoos he doesn’t like with no reason or provocation and making fun of mental health. Fantastic experience: I got a memorial tattoo for my brother that was really important and it turned out better than I could have ever imagined! I live in MD and drove about 2 hours to get tattooed by Nae. She was engaged and very patient with me while talking through our consultation. She also introduced me to the finer things of a tattoo experience and was very caring throughout the whole process! We already have another appointment set up for my next tat! As a black queer woman, I felt comfortable, safe, and very welcomed in the shop. Everyone was really nice and chill especially Mack who worked at the front desk. They made sure I had everything I needed while I was there and was just a sweet human being. I highly recommend The Black Rabbit!

Fantastic experience: I came for a walk in and am so happy with the experience! Maybe my timing was lucky, but I had pretty much no wait, I was in and out in an hour. Both the reception and artist Naé were so friendly and making sure I was comfortable and happy with my tattoo. The pricing is more than fair honestly and the whole shop has a great atmosphere. Would absolutely love to come back and definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience: We went for one of the flash events, and I was impressed by the staff and how friendly everyone was. They checked in with me throughout the process and asked if I would need a break or if I wanted to take a minute. I have vertigo sometimes, and when they noticed I had to stop, all of the artists were concerned and offered snacks and water, thinking it was shock. I am planning to get more tattoos from them.

Negative experience: Got some tooth gems from Phantom, payed $80 and they all fell off within 4 days. Reached out to the artist since they’re meant to last a lot longer and she just told me to reschedule and that she wasn’t gonna do anything to help me out. Definitely scammed

They hold a lot of events tailored to different subjective or references, but each artist has their own style so you can easily find one who can do what you have in mind. Everyone is so kind and it feels welcoming.

Fantastic experience: I’m obsessed with Black Rabbit tattoo shop!!! It’s sooo cute on the inside. I also really want to highlight how kind the staff is. I’ve been to many tattoo shops where the front desk person has an off putting attitude, but their front desk staff was so kind. We ended up waiting a lot longer than we thought, but it’s all good. It was comfortable! Nae did our walk-in tattoo and she was super cool. I love how LGBTQ+ friendly they are. Overall a great experience for my birthday.

Fantastic experience: Bunny was the best her calm and chill attitude really helped me a more nervous person by nature threw the tattoo and it was way less painless then my other work they are a real master of their craft and I think it’s an actual waste of money to get tattooed at any other shop then black rabbit <3 and when I left they had done I think 90 today them self’s so the work is quick , perfect and professional and the general vibe of the shop is top tear

Fantastic experience: Absolutely adore this place. Quality work and quality people. One of my favorite things about Black Rabbit is that the staff are kind! You will never get that ~too cool to be nice to the clients~ routine here like you get at some other places. They show their clients the respect and appreciation they deserve I keep coming back for a reason! Highly recommend the tattooer named Wednesday.

Fantastic experience: I have been tattooed by almost everyone in the shop, my favorite to see is Ruth. I have made Black Rabbit my main (and practically only) shop that I go to because it has everything. Ruth is kind, straight forward, and has always been professional without coming off pretentious. So far I have been there 9 times, my gf 2 times, and I always am on the books each time she has an opening. To sum it up: I go to Ruth at Black Rabbit, and if you saw my tattoos, you'd want to too.

Fantastic experience: My favorite shop/place in Richmond! Raigan is my go to artist, but I've been tattooed by at least 5 other people there and everyone is so sweet and professional. They're great at making you comfortable with the process as well. Love all the work I've had done and will absolutely be returning every chance I get :)

Fantastic experience: Love love love this place. Went on a Tuesday early in the afternoon to get my first small tattoo, the place was surprisingly busy. Nonetheless the front desk lady was super sweet and immediately welcomed me in and asked what I was in for. They told me they didn’t have availability until latest that evening and being from out of town I wasn’t sure that I wanted to stay that long so they took my name and number and told me they call if space opened up. It did about a hour later. Once paper work is done I worked with Wednesday to figure out my design, she is very obviously well knowledges in the work of tattooing and expressed that while talking about my tattoo idea. Then the process was quick and easy and I felt very comfortable with my artist and in the space they created. 10/10 will be going back at some point.

Fantastic experience: Everyone was so friendly and nice, I was a walk in and they got me in and out in good time, Raigan did my tattoo and she was the sweetest, she gave me good ideas for my tattoo and was very professional. I love my tattoo so much, a great gift to bring home to remember my trip to Richmond and for not bad of a price! 1000/10, would recommend!

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about this studio. I would recommend it to anyone. I had never gotten a tattoo before and have many health concerns, including sensitive skin, so I did quite a bit of research before deciding on a studio. I chose Black Rabbit mostly for their artists' style, but also because it seemed to be a reputable shop and they were willing to share information like what ink they used, which was very important to me. I wanted a pet portrait in the style of Sailor Moon, and saw that Isasha, lil_tat_mama on instagram, had done quite a few pet portraits in the Fruits Basket style, as well as other work in the Sailor Moon style, and used color in a way that I really liked, so I booked an appointment with her. She was absolutely fantastic! I liked that she uses a form for bookings, which makes it easy to communicate what you want in your design. Her assistant was also easy to work with. Even her pricing I found very reasonable. When I got to the shop for my appointment, everyone in the shop was friendly and professional and the shop itself was clean, organized, nicely decorated, and inviting. I think I had marked that I had sensitive skin on my paperwork, so they offered to let me look at the ingredients on the soap they use to disinfect skin beforehand to see if it would cause a reaction. I didn't even ask! Isasha's design was even better than I could have asked for and she was delightful throughout the appointment. It took less time than I thought, and I'm not sure if she's just very efficient or if I don't know how long tattoos take. Maybe both. It's been a few days and my new tattoo is healing very well and I have had no complications. All in all, it was a perfect experience and I am so thankful I chose this shop and artist for my first tattoo.

Fantastic experience: Got my first tat. Luffy on my upper arm. Hannah was a very patient artist with all my questions and idea changes, and imagined and drew up my ideas super quickly. She has a lot of experience with anime and cartoons, along with how to tattoo melaninated people like me. And they give you a lot of helpful procedure for after care routine. Great first experience and no regrets with the tattoo.

Fantastic experience: Got my first tattoo done here from Tori Hassoun and I absolutely love it. They made sure that I was comfortable the whole time and got me juice and water during breaks and let me really see and tell me about the full process. So welcoming and sweet and the tattoo is absolutely gorgeous and everything I wanted.

Negative experience: You can be cowards and continue to anonymously leave reviews criticising your neighboring businesses if you want. Your actions will only hurt you. You gotta a problem with who's given me something to do, that's cool. You gotta problem with me personally; Even better. However, I don't see Black Rabbit Tattoo allowing any homeless people to do anything around their shop, for any kind of payment. How about minding YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

Positive experience: All of the artists I’ve worked with are great. They are the reason this has 3 stars. However, the front desk workers have always been rude and condescending. I don’t think I will come back for a while because I don’t want to deal with the current front desk workers. They just make me feel bad/stupid for even asking for a tattoo.

Fantastic experience: A lot of places you find on Instagram don't live up to the expectations you've built up when you see them in person, but this place definitely delivered! Great vibes, friendly staff. Wednesday was great! Will be coming back when I'm in the area.

Fantastic experience: Got my first tattoo here, everyones very nice and professional. Kim, my tattoo artist was amazing and bubbly, lighthearted, and wished me a happy birthday. She made sure i loved my tattoo. I went in for a walk in, which is only supposed to be palm sized or smaller, but my design needed to be bigger for the small details and they accommodated me quickly and professionally. And my tattoo turned out better than imagined. 10/10 highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been to this shop at least seven or eight times now. I absolutely love this place and all the people there. They love the community and frequently run fundraisers for various causes. The atmosphere is great: music is always playing and the walls are plastered with amazing art. They use fairly basic benches for the client to sit/lie. I actually prefer this style seat as it’s much easier to adjust and move as needed than the fancy ergonomic chairs one might find in a tattoo shop. They’re also near-impossible to tip over. This is one of those cases where simpler is better. I’ve specifically seen Kim (co-owner) for all of my tattoos here. She is exceptionally kind, easy to work with, and fair with pricing. She could easily charge twice what she asks. Kim is also incredibly quick. She knocks out pieces twice as fast as other artists and they come out just as good if not better. She specializes in anime tattoos, so if you’re wanting anything in that realm I highly highly recommend getting in her books. The other artists are also great, and all provide different styles. Walk-ins are welcome for many of the artists. I love this place so much that I fly in from Florida. I couldn’t recommend Black Rabbit enough.

Fantastic experience: I got tattooed by Zoe after her ex-assistant accidentally double-booked her and she was kind enough to fit me in later that day! Absolutely loved it— very queer friendly too.
