Fantastic experience: I make it a rule to get at least one tattoo a year and and it came down to the wire. Came in to consult with Jen Bean and I was not disappointed. I had my own style and design when I came in and she was able to make a stencil for me. Scheduled it for the following day. Jen was so cool and professional. Such an inspiring experience! Fantastic experience: Great experience! Staff members and artist were super professional. They even offered me a free in person consultation with the artist to talk about the tattoo ideas. My tattoo artist was Ash, she was always available and reply fast to emails days prior to the scheduled day. On the day of the tattoo Ash was very attentive and polite, always caring for me to have the best experience and making sure that I was pleased with the design, which was exactly what I wanted. She is a very talented artist and I’m definitely planning to come back for more tattoos.

Fantastic experience: Micki was the artist my friend and I used for matching tattoos. They only charged for an hour and a half each despite definitely taking longer but according to them the extra time was just because they really wanted to make it look good! It looks absolutely beautiful and they allows free touch ups for a whole year! 10/10 will be coming back for future tattoos!!

I was consulted with Jess as my wife has previously used her as an artist and she is just a touch above extremely talented. Received another awesome tattoo by Zakariah Capehart this artist needs awards and to be recognized as such. I provided my design I created by AI and he took this design to another level. I truly believe he’s going places in this field. Both pieces of art will be in my photos in 1 photo Jess recreated my grand daughter’s crayon drawing and the magnificent Zakariah took my AI design to an entirely new level. Deez Nutz!!!

I had a phoenix tattoo done by another artist and I just wasn’t satisfied with the end result. Fernando added dimension and texture throughout the entire tattoo and knew exactly what I wanted without me even having to go into too much detail. He worked his magic on this piece and I am absolutely in love with my tattoo now. He is extremely professional and helpful in answering any questions or concerns. Fantastic experience: Ginny at loose screw is who I go to for semi realistic, vivid color work. Mostly food related. Started with reworking some old ink and evolved into our own stuff. She’s got a light hand and a great personality. Loose screw has some super talented artists. And right in the heart of Cary town. You can’t go wrong.

Fantastic experience: To start, the front desk staff is organized, friendly and well informed. When they don't know something, they let you know that they will find out. The location itself is cute and comforting with fun art and music. Even the patrons seem to be in a good mood there. Anna did my first ever tattoo, and she is an amazing artist in all respects. Her art on the walls will wow you too. In addition to that, she hits that nice balance between letting you know what will work and look good long term and what you actually want. She is also just a top tier human to talk with and to have doing your tattoo. She's funny, really knows her stuff and is interesting and kind to talk with. All that being said, I'm really glad I researched how to find my tattoo artist before choosing her, because now I realize how important it is to pick someone who is comfortable with the style you love. I went in thinking I wanted one kind of thing but then fell in love with Anna's more delicate look with lots of depth and shading and grays. Just beautiful work with a lot of meaning, and she's very respectful of that. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Anna was ABSOLUTELY amazing! I was nervous about the 6 hour session but it honestly did not feel like that at all. She made me feel so comfortable and welcomed. I felt like we were old friends just catching up. Her work is top tier and just doesn’t compare! She listened to everything I wanted but I also gave her freedom to do some twists on it. My tattoo turned out better than I could have imagined. The staff there is amazing as well, so nice and welcoming. Would not go anywhere else for tattoo!

Fantastic experience: If you are researching where to get tattooed in RVA, definitely consider Loose Screw! They are professional, friendly, and you can tell all of the artists love working there and collaborate and respect one another. Long story short, I ended up getting 2 tattoos in 1 week by artists from their shop. I initially researched a floral tattoo and found Anna on IG. She works with your idea and gives it life while also making sure that it is conceputalized in a way that will create a tarttoo you'll love forever. Her design asethetic, impeccable talent, and appreciation of context will make you so so happy with your tattoo. I also got tattooed by Micki almost solely because of recommendations from Anna. I had a constellation tattoo that didn't feel complete and Micki turned my chaotic idea into a piece that came out better than I could have imagined. His art is equally meticulous and creative and the end result is impeccable.

Negative experience: I've gone back and forth about posting this review, but after some encouragement from friends I've decided to. I got a tattoo of a crescent moon on my thigh from Ginny about 2 years ago. The appointment itself wasn't very great. She communicated very little and did the whole tattoo in around 30 minutes (it's the size of my hand roughly). It was also really painful and uncomfortable. it was my second tattoo ever, so with my little experience i didn't know that she was rushing and being unnecessarily heavy-handed. 2 years later and my tattoo has missing lines and is blown out, so lines are already running into each other (also because of poor design). What's even MORE infuriating, is that my best friend got a custom sternum tattoo from her 6 months after me, and her tattoo is beautiful. it's light-handed and dainty and she put way more effort into communicating with my friend than me. There was nothing different about how we approached the appointment process. Considering the entire booking process took around 6 months, I'm extremely unsatisfied with the tattoo I got and how I was treated by the artist, especially when you know they Can and Have done better work. After getting more experience with other tattoo artists, I now look back on this experience with frustration. I'll be getting my tattoo fixed by another artist and I do not recommend going here best wishes to those who are shopping around.

Fantastic experience: Fernando was amazing to work with. He was attentive and listened very well to what was important to me and what I wanted in my tattoo. He executed it beautifully. He is easy to talk to and I felt comfortable with him. I’m absolutely in love with the tattoo I got from him. He’s an amazing artist and I love his style of tattooing. This was my largest tattoo that I have ever gotten and I was able to sit for the entire thing.

Fantastic experience: Staff and artist were very professional. It was just a consult, but Jess was very straightforward and professional. I’ve been following her on instagram and her work is impeccable. I’m very excited to see what she draws up for me with my ideas in mind. The shop appears clean and not junky with overwhelming tats in your face( like most). The price maybe a bit high, but I imagine you get what you pay for. I work a commission job as well so I know time is valuable.

Fantastic experience: I got my first tattoo at loose screw and requested it to be done by Anna Wolff. I had seen some of her work on their website and decided that she would be a great artist for the tattoo I had in mind. She was phenomenal! It was the best first experience I could’ve ever asked for. The consultation went well, and I was really excited to see the final product later on. During my consultation, she answered my questions throughly and made sure to give me suggestions as to what we could do design wise to make sure the tattoo still looks good as it fades. I left without any worries knowing that Anna had my back. Day of the session, I was really nervous but it truly flew by. We were having the best conversations, which helped me take my mind off of the pain (it wasn’t that bad, I’m just a baby). I absolutely loved seeing the art come to life. Her work is truly incredible and I was throughly satisfied every step of the way, zero complaints, she’s awesome. I absolutely adored the final product, and I am so happy that I get to stare at it forever :D

Fantastic experience: An overdue review from October 2024, Anna Wolff at Loose Screw crafted & tattooed a spectacular large upper arm Buddah for me. Anna came recommended by two others. From start to finish, the process was seamless, scheduling my initial consult to working me in during Richmond Tattoo Convention. I initially had a different idea of what I wanted my Buddah to look like yet after my consult with Anna, she gracefully explained why what I wanted wouldn't necessarily look as good as it could then talked me through & showed me the changes, modifications, and adjustments she'd recommend with her experience. I won't lie, I was hesitant but fully trusted her as an artist. As for the tattooing at the convention, I sat in the booth with Anna where she talked to me the entire time, all nine & a half hours - asking questions to drive conservation which was refreshing. Throughout the convention, I was instantly validated in trusting Anna with the decision to make the Buddah a large upper arm piece as she received compliments constantly from other artists and random strangers. While it was exhausting for both of us, at the end of the day, the Buddah looked absolutely breathtaking. Fast forward about two or so months later & I've lost count of the number of compliments I've received on the tattoo Anna did. Seriously, thoroughly impressed with Anna's work & will be reaching out for her to keep tattooing me. Would recommend her & Loose Screw Tattoo to anyone looking for a fantastic tattoo in the Richmond area.

I felt confident and comfortable and we scheduled the appointment time and deposit was handled professionally. I highly recommend at least scheduling a consultation! Will update once the appointment has happened. Update: First sitting has happened. Reception eas friendly, documents signed and processed quickly, artist was professional and great to hang out with for 5 or so hours. Ash did an excellent job with placement and was attentive during the entire sitting. Highly recommend!

His work is absolutely phenomenal—some of the best (if not the best) I’ve seen in the industry. We’re currently finishing up my "Clue" themed sleeve, and he’s absolutely crushing it! Nick’s line work is flawless, his use of color is stunning, and his imagination brings everything to life in ways I didn’t think were possible. Beyond his technical skill, he’s a true artist who genuinely cares about his work and makes the process collaborative. He listens to my ideas and makes me feel like we’re a team. If you’re looking for a tattoo artist who combines talent, creativity, and professionalism, Nick is your guy. I can’t recommend him enough!

Fantastic experience: My friend and I had the best experience at Loose Screw this past weekend! We came in to just discuss our idea for matching tattoos, and walked out with tattoos! We were so excited that they were so willing to accommodate us on the spot. Jess and Nick did an amazing job on our tattoos, and they were so much fun to hang out with! We can't wait to come back for more tattoos in the future. Highly recommend them!

Fantastic experience: I’ve gotten two tattoos from Ginny here and have had an amazing experience each time! I can’t really speak to the other artists there, but Ginny is very skilled and professional and does a great job with crisp lines and amazing shading/coloring. The shop is always clean and everyone is always so friendly each time I’ve gone. 10/10 would recommend for others to go here for any tattoo ideas/needs. Thank you Loose Screw Tattoo!

Fantastic experience: Went in for my initial consultation. I was listened to, questions asked and great conversation to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I am a senior and was not judged at all. Now I am in 2 tats and will be back in September for a cover. Both artist are great! Highly recommend this shop!

Fantastic experience: From the consultation request with the front desk, to my meeting with Micki on what I was looking for with a tattoo, his doing the tattoo, to the very end of checking out, everyone was professional and personable. Any questions I had were answered and I was always kept up to date on what the next steps were. This was my first tattoo and Micki made it a great experience!

Fantastic experience: Zakariah is one of the best upcoming artist. I have been there since the beginning of his apprenticeship - to see the growth from where Zakariah started to seeing the doors that Loose Screw has opened is incredible. He is so talented and to be able to explore unknown skills to learn from will excel him in his career. I wouldn’t recommend any other shop! Clean! Thorough and they definitely make sure that you are incredibly happy with your piece.

Fantastic experience: The shop is very comfortable, the staff are extremely personable and kind. This wasn't my first tattoo, but they took the time to make sure I was clear on process and aftercare. Fernando is very pleasant to work with. His work is impeccable, and it's wonderful having the process explained for your comfort. Can't wait for the second session to finish up his great start to my latest addition!

Fantastic experience: Had a terrific experience at Loose Screw Tattoo - got my very first one this week. The communication was prompt, and the space is clean and comfortable. I worked with Zachariah who was very kind and patient through the whole process. He was able to give me exactly the tattoo that I wanted (a world map and initials of my dearest loved ones on my forearm). He is skilled and precise. The actual tattooing process was relaxed, and Zachariah helped me stay calm. At the end of the session, I booked my next tattoo session with him!

Fantastic experience: Don’t keep surfing shops. They put you with the right artist for you during screening. They are an amazing place. My tattoo wasn’t complex but I added to it the day of the appointment. My artist accomplished the tattoo in the same time frame. You can waste time surfing in the Richmond area but I would just book them. Save yourself time.

Fantastic experience: My tattoo artist was Ginny and she is a amazing artist her work is incredible!!! Everyone we all came in contact with was so accommodating and patient and very informative! Zachariah and Chris have answered many questions for me after this process. This was my biggest tattoo yet and also in memory of my dad so very meaningful and everyone there made it very special. You have an incredible place and I will be back Thank you again for everyone being so patient and kind. Anytime I hear someone mention they want to get a tattoo I'm definitely recommending this place!!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Started a multi session piece today and I’m in love. I have a completely custom art piece that is all I asked for and more. The line work is solid and the colors are vibrant. It’s great work! I had a very comfortable experience at Loose Screw. I felt at home in the shop as soon as I walked in. It’s clean and sanitary. Nick also made sure I was comfortable during the tattooing process. Great experience! I definitely recommend Loose Screw and Nick specifically!

Fantastic experience: My daughter is a self harm survivor but some days are harder then others so.. we’ve started getting her tattoos, which seem to give her pause and hope before she makes any choices. This was our first time at Loose Screws Tattoo. It’s a beautiful place!.. it’s clean the people are really nice there was no rush no pressure no judgment. The prices were fair, overall I have nothing negative to say. Jordan did this one for her, she is an apprentice at Loose Screw and did a really beautiful job♥️ Thank you for being a part of our big girls recovery

Fantastic experience: Micki served me well. Working a design from my concept and then executing the tattoo with a level of details I was not expecting. The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly. Overall, for my first tattoo, I felt the customer service was top notch. (And having an alcohol alternative to negate my sensitivity resulted in me being able to stay local instead of traveling hours from home)

Fantastic experience: 1st tattoo session went great with Fernando Garcia who is very personable, knowledgeable of his craft and just overall a great guy. Cover up is going well and I return in a month to fill it in. Very talented and accommodating as well. Loose screw is also a clean and friendly environment. Highly recommend if you’re thinking about getting a tattoo!! Will update next session if needed !
