Fantastic experience: This past year, i visited this shop and got a few pieces done. My best and most favorite piece so far was this bunny rabbit with heart shaped chest fur. This is such a meaningful tattoo to me since loosing my dad March 2025, my overall experience with the shop and the artist (Nicole) who did the piece was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere, the people were all great and everyone was friendly. I felt so comfortable and not judged at all! I’d highly recommend bhs to anyone.

Negative experience: The main girl at the front. Black girl with braids had a stank attitude and was super unhelpful the only reason I'm giving a two is because the person who assisted us with the reddish pink hair was awesome.

Fantastic experience: I went in during a fundraising event in March of 2025 and was so glad I did. I picked a cute flash design I had been eyeing & was seen within 30 minutes (even though it was packed). My artist, Cavalas, was amazing & instantly calmed my nerves with their talent. Only shop I’ll get tattooed in the 757!

Fantastic experience: I love my amazing tattoo done by Ki (eighteen.thirteen). She took a somewhat vague idea that I had and turned it into this incredible work of art! Ki took the time to really understand my idea before drawing it up. You can’t go wrong with any of the artists. They are my go to no matter what I want. I go to them for piercings as well. A professional shop that does incredible work!!

My artist Aaron did an amazing job on this piece that I had been planning for years in honor of my grandfather who passed almost 14 years ago. 10/10 would go to him again! Adam was amazing - he took the time to explain everything from start to finish to aftercare to my daughter (and me) and was gentle, careful, encouraging, and above all else he was very professional! He took me in, prepared my tattoo how i wanted it and finished it a few hours later! This was one of my best tattoo sessions I’ve ever had. I highly recommend getting your next tattoo from David. Negative experience: Bobby Elliots work. Absolutely terrible, and I was blown off when I tried to reach out to have touch ups done. Look close and you’ll see, I’m sure you’re just as astounded as I am. A simple concept, lightning, turned into a nightmare. Stay away!

Negative experience: IF YOU ARE GETTING PIERCED BEWARE!!!! about a year ago i got my belly pierced here, it was about $60 (with jewelry). it’s irritated for MONTHS after getting it done. a YEAR later? still irritated, now i know piercings do reject but mine was fine, i then found out the bar was not correct at all. GO TO ARTESIAN IN NORFOLK, this place scams tourists and even locals

Positive experience: Super easy walk-in process. They have plenty of artists there and are mindful about matching you with the one who best suits your needs. Works with you through the design process and is happy to make changes to make sure you get what you want.

Negative experience: I called for an appointment was told yes call 20 min before coming in. Told them it would be an hour. 1 hour later I called they said yes come on in. We got there they said it would be over an hour wait and was waiting on the artist to get back to do the people infront of us. Then as we were reluctantly filling out the 10 min form that wouldn't work he finally said it doesn't work on chrome. Very unprofessional

Fantastic experience: I scheduled my appointment with Nicole Sanchez. My experience was awesome! We started talking and I didn't even realize how far along she was with my tattoo since the conversation just flowed. I was completely distracted, which made it great since I love tattoos, but I do not like needles. I will be back soon to get another tattoo from Nicole!

Negative experience: This is a late review from the Friday the 13th flash sale. We pulled up at 6pm to get our tattoos and we were not told about the wait or that they were short on artists. If they have mentioned that we wouldn’t have stayed and wasted our time. As it neared 10pm the lady at the front counter started walking around asking people if they could come back the next day because “it was late” those who agreed left without their tattoo and without their money which seemed kind of sketchy to me. We politely said we couldn’t come back and we were leaving with tattoos or a refund. She then told us we were two and three in line. 30 minutes pass nobody new has been called to get a tattoo and artists are standing around talking. The lady then comes back around asking people again if they’d come back another day and we at that point were worried that their rush to get us out of there would show in their work so we asked for a refund and then they were magically ready to do our tattoos but we declined and asked for our money back. I wouldn’t even bother leaving this review if it was my first bad experience here. Last year I came to this location to get a tattoo and I heard the artist talking to the same lady and he said it would be $150 but she came to me and said it would be $300. I left and went to independence where they did it for $150. I have had good experiences with the piercers here they are very nice and I’ve had good experiences with everyone at independence so I may return to that location in the future but I currently have no desire to return to any blue horseshoe in the near future after my most recent experience.

Negative experience: Paid over $100 for a lobe piercing just to get the wrong jewelry. Less than a week later I had to take them out because the bars were too short for the swelling, causing the jewelry to sink into my ears. My friend had a bad time in the same visit with a tattoo.

Negative experience: Pretty sure they’re reusing needles, my tattoo got so infected within 24 hours I needed to go to the ER. Gentleman didn’t want to use gloves in an attempt I assume to show off his hand tattoos, gave me tons of pushback when I asked them to use sterile gloves. Very unprofessional I’d go anywhere else first.

Negative experience: Didn't check my anatomy for a piercing until I brought it up. Ended up being told by another piercer that I, infact, did not have the anatomy and Blue Horshoe took my money anyways. $180 for a piercing that I could've gotten for 60 bucks elsewhere. Was in shock at the register when she told me my total, walked in with $90 expecting to get by. Should've known better but definitely won't make the same mistake.

Negative experience: Went there for a flash sale they were doing. From the beginning the person at the counter wasn't the friendliest, but had never been to the this studio so I kinda let it slide. But what did get me was the tattoo artist went to "fix" another tattoo of mine that did not need fixing. So have a a messed up tattoo that was fine when I went into the shop is now completely messed up. The artist offered to fix it, but I'm two and half hours away and was in town visiting, so that's a bit much when it shouldn't have happened in the first place. The tattoos I got turned out amazing, but messing up my other tattoo kind of ruined it.

Negative experience: On 12/14/2024 I went with a friend to get a tattoo that I had an appointment with and made 2 weeks prior with Ki for 2 pm and paid a deposit. The appt was confirmed several times. On the 14th at 11:30 am she attempted to changed the appointment to 4 pm to take 2 walkins.. I called and informed that I could not change my appointment and so it was changed back.. I showed up a little after 1 pm and I did not get put in the chair until 4:30 pm… the manger offered half off however I paid full price because Ki charged me 400.00 for a tattoo that only took 1 hour to do… so although I paid 200.00 the tattoo should not have cost that much.. she was over charging. Most of the artists there are nice but it only takes one to put a bad taste in your mouth… The manager definitely went out of his way to accommodate which I appreciate and the guy that did my friends tattoo was awesome and he didn’t over charge and the tat took 3 hours and he was only charged 400.00. Unfortunately again I was disappointed by Blue Horse shoe. Went in as a walk-in on 2/12/2022 and 3 out of the 4 females at the front were so rude that husband and I walked out. Customer service was horrible at this place… the women were finding ways to turn away business… why say u accept walkins if u don’t… they were immediately trying to say everything we wanted needed an appointment because it would take to long.. we went somewhere else and received excellent service and the tattoos we got took less than an hour each.. will never go back to blue horseshoe ever again

Fantastic experience: Cav is a FANTASTIC tattoo artist. I love her work she has done on me. She’s extremely nice and very patient. She gave me EXACTLY what i wanted and took her time making sure that I got the perfect tattoo. The line work is sharp. I’ve also been pierced by both Adam and Nyx and would highly recommend either of them for any piercing in any place. I love getting tats and pierced here.

Negative experience: Customer service needs major improvement. Completely ignored, even standing at the front desk. The girl at front desk is rude. Ended up leaving to a different establishment for piercings.

Fantastic experience: Five stars for the ladies at the front desk, absolute joy speaking with all three I saw at different times. Five stars for clean and professional entertainment and communication. I don’t understand the reviews complaining about pricing. They tell you before hand. I wish I could give 10 stars to my artist David. Absolutely stellar work!

Fantastic experience: They do walk ins and their starting price is $120. We had David Stewart do our matching tattoo and he’s very outgoing. He guarantees you like it. So, if you need it touched up a few days later; he will let you come back and get it touched up for free! I would recommend him and come back. When you pay, each $100 you spend they give you points that equals cash value for your next visit. So, I just got a $20 off coupon for my next tattoo. They also give you the after care for free.

Fantastic experience: I got a vertical labret here and the piercer Adam was so amazing!! He was very sweet and talked me through it and it looks SO amazing!! He nailed the middle of my lip perfectly even though my face is very asymmetrical!! Every piercing (11) that I've had so far has gotten piercing irritation bumps but it's been two days and this one still doesn't have any, I'll go ahead and give him credit for that as well. He's going to be my future piecer from now on, I cannot recommend him enough. My friend also got a tattoo there, she was very nervous, and also it's older with an amputated leg and canes. Everyone was extremely patient and sweet to her, and were hyping her up. Not sure where the other reviews about attitude were coming from. The young girl working the front desk was very sweet and kind as well, and was hyping me up about my piercing (I was nervous it'd look bad with my small lips lmao) Overall 10/10, amazing experience, amazing people. If you're doing a walk in i recommend getting there as soon as they open like we did as they get busy FAST. Thank you again Adam!!

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience! I was greeted by two awesome ladies that helped me decide on the piercings I wanted and they got me taken care of before I got too anxious! The piercer helped me breathe and stay calm and relaxed, it barely hurt at all! I got my septum and my labre done together. 10/10 experience. Fantastic experience: I went in for a walk-in pretty late in the afternoon on a Sunday - not exactly the nicest time to do that to the staff. Bethany came over and immediately we were vibing and getting excited and going over ideas. Couldn’t have felt I picked a better place to go. After a few decisions, revisions, we came up with this design for my right calf. Biggest tattoo I’ve gotten so far. Finished up a few hours ago and keep looking at it and getting happy haha. Bethany did such a sick job, she even added a few of her own twists into the design/shading (she didn’t surprise me lol don’t worry). It looks better than I could have imagined. We chatted and laughed - besides some rough shading spots on the calf - I was in a great mood, having fun, and just like I was just happy the whole time haha. Couldn’t recommend Bethany enough. She’s awesome - really really cool chick. Has sick tattoos too. I’m 100% going back to her for my next tattoo. Not even like a doubt about that. AND THIS WAS A WALK-IN, MIND YOU - Bethany was the bomb, pumped to get more art on me from her soon

Fantastic experience: I’m not one to give bad reviews due to me being in customer service even when I do have a bad experience somewhere I keep it moving. So I’m not going to. I think it was just miscommunication from artist and confusion from myself in which I blame myself for not taking it further at the shop. The amount that was paid for 8 letters was ridiculous even though I’m satisfied with it because it’s pretty I don’t think it should’ve cost that much. I’m not naming names or price again I don’t want to be that person. I’m only writing this because i want others to be aware of what they are actually getting for the price they artist quotes. I thought I was getting more done for the price that was paid. This is an amazing shop with great people even the artist I had was very nice. But I want to give a shout out to Aaron for going above and beyond to make my experience better and me leaving a happy customer. Like I said I’m not sure what went wrong what actually happened in that time but I know it was made right! Thank you!

Negative experience: Received nipple piercings from this establishment last week from Jessica . Piercing was not only crooked but she lacked any type of hospitality! If I wanted it crooked I would’ve did it myself! Did not verbally follow up with after-care instructions, or what to expect for the healing process . Jessica was not only condescending with her tone, but as well did not clean the wounds after finishing my piercings. This painful experience was only the more painful by her doings! do not recommend ! In addition, the two females at the front desk was more helpful than the piercer who was actually doing it!

Negative experience: The piercer sold me very tight hoop earrings for my conch that I started bleeding and leaving mark on my ear. I bought two in case I lose it again. The store can’t do anything about them because they left the store. Total waste of money and won’t be coming back again.

Negative experience: I was going to come to this shop to get a piercing, but after reading the reviews , I will decline . Seems like to me customer service is a huge issue here ( just read the reviews) . As a person who works in customer service , my only advice to your workers is at least act like you like your job. Great customer service and making customers feel like they matter is what makes people continue to come back and get others to come .

Fantastic experience: My wife and I came here for the Friday 13th specials. The wait was long but it was expected. The shop itself is huge and really clean! Customer service was amazing, and was really organized with amount of people in there. Chessa did our tattoo and she absolutely killed it! Line work was clean and she was in great spirits. Negative experience: If I were able to give this place negative stars, I would. To begin with the wait was terrible. We were told that we would be talking to an artist in 30 mins to an hour and I almost wanted 2 and a half hours to even start talking to anyone. My fiancés artist not only took a 45 min break when he put the stencil on, he also took a 40 min break right in the middle of the session. The tattoos were awful, if you can’t do line work, say that. If you aren’t able to go dark without damaging the skin, say that. My tattoo is severally patchy and my fiancés skin had so many blisters because of how over worked his skin was. Overall I wouldn’t go back and waste my money on artists that aren’t transparent with their clients.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible me and my wife went on vacation and came here to have a tattoo date. The artist that had done our tattoos did a terrible job my artist will completely overworked my skin. I was encouraged to look at his instagram and he had some amazing work on there so I was not expecting it to be a bad tattoo. It had huge scabs all over my tattoo and now that the scabs are gone their is blowouts on so many lines and the tattoo is scarred . My wife’s artist jon said that he was confident in doing line work on her hand and knuckle and now that it’s almost fully healed half of the lines are non existent some of the lines are shakey and not even straight the part on her knuckle understanding that knuckles are a hard place to do but it’s barley even their overall we would’ve rather waited to fly home to get tattoos.

Fantastic experience: Went in last night for 2 piercings and a small tattoo for my daughters 21st birthday. I was surprised that they took us last minute! The new building looks so nice inside and it was very clean from top to bottom. I loved how big the space is along with the pool table, The whole experience from start to finish was absolutely incredible. Everyone was very nice and answered all of our questions. Our tattoo and piercing was painless! We will definitely be back for sure

Positive experience: Skip the beeswax aftercare - As a balm it’s nice, but as a tattoo aftercare just stick to Aquaphor. My sister and I got tattoos here while on vacation. We left happy, we even really liked the beeswax balm at first. A few days after we both started having burning sensations, I have acne all over my forearm where the tattoo is and now we both have scarring on our tattoos from it not healing properly even after discontinuing the balm. It was the only common denominator. It is what it is, I’d just stick to what aftercare you usually use.

Fantastic experience: Went today to get sun and moon tattoos with my best friend, Day did my moon and touched up another work for me and was amazing during it! I gave him only a little to go off of and he hit it right on the mark with what he came up with! The entire experience was amazing and I’d HIGHLY recommend him, only thing I would say is he isn’t well known enough

Fantastic experience: Got my first tattoo here. Will did an amazing job with the shoulder/bicep piece and the realism in it. The atmosphere was also very welcoming right as you walk in. Would recommend!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend J! He did amazing on this sticker tattoo of Twister from Rocket Power! I absolutely love it!

Negative experience: i love coming here to get tattooed but you guys really need to work on your customer service when it comes to the women at the front of the shop. i brought my friend in today for her first tattoo. we were hoping to do a walk in and she had $150 on here looking for something small. she was incredibly nervous and they made her feel very unwelcome and full on turned her away. i’ve also been turned away here when doing a walk-in before and it’s fine if y’all don’t wanna do the tattoo but your staff can come off incredibly rude and unwelcoming, especially to people who are new to getting tattooed

Negative experience: I’ve visited this shop multiple times to consider both tattoos and piercings. (Both before and after COVID-19.). I’ve never been in a shop and been looked down upon for having a lack of tattoos before. (Mine are covered by clothes.). During two subsequent visits where I inquired about several piercings I was considering, I was ignored, then pushed to the side, only to be ignored so that other customers could joke and talk to the people up front. TWICE. My questions and concerns were bothersome to the front desk person and when I realized that I wouldn’t get any help, I asked to speak to someone else or to see a piercer. I was told that it wasn’t possible and I haven’t been back. I tried to tell myself that the shop is just busy but there’s no excuse to leave customers waiting and waiting just to ignore them. Luckily, while being ignored I found another person in the shop who was disappointed and we found another shop to take our questions and give our business to. But it’s a shame that I’ve heard such awesome things about BH just to be treated poorly. The above review was for the location that closed on VB Blvd. The next part will be for the Independence location. (6/2023) Stopped by for some jewelry, only to find a few small pieces. Nothing cute, nothing worth the prices. For a “world famous” shop, you suck.

Negative experience: My friend got her belly button pierced here a few weeks ago first wrong thing is they said something about her body and her “belly rolls” in front of everyone in the waiting room like are you serious??? Not even a few weeks later she had to pay to get it taken out because it was so infected because the piercing wasn’t even done right and was the wrong jewelry, bad experience over all.

Fantastic experience: Me and my sister got tattoos here a few weeks back. Simple small tattoos as you can see, the line work came out amazing even after they fully healed! The people there were friendly and got it done fast.

Negative experience: I went there for a friday 13th tattoo and for one the tattoo is a bit wonky, secondly the guy was digging in my skin like he was digging for gold and lastly because of him digging in my skin like he was digging for gold my tattoo took FOREVER to heal. Furthermore, I originally went for a belly piercing because I’ve had one before but took it out and the lady told me I don’t have the belly button for it, EVEN THOUGH I’ve already had it pierced in the past and it was just fine.

Fantastic experience: Staff was very attentive and professional!! Ax (one of the artists) was crazy cool and made everything go smoothly! I'll definitely get work done here in the future!
