Fantastic experience: Great Tattooist. Skilled and talented. I took my design in and we worked on where. Great pricing none of this capitalist nonsense. Gave me a price and that was what it was. Also skilled at piercing.

Negative experience: My friend and I got tattoos during a Friday the 13th flash event. We chose the same design and were tattooed at the same time by two different artists. The photo on the left shows my friend’s tattoo immediately after it was done. Unfortunately, my experience was very different. Mine was done by the owner of the studio (who you would obviously immediately put your trust in). The photo on the right shows my tattoo after one session of laser removal. The quality was extremely poor, the lines were thick and wobbly and it turned out incredibly dark. What was a $40 tattoo is now going to cost me hundreds of dollars to remove. When I contacted the owner immediately after on the day to explain that I was unhappy with the result, I received no apology or sympathy when I returned to the studio. I asked if I could come in and be tattooed by the same person my friend had, he said yes, but when I arrived he pretty much avoided eye contact and remained on his computer, making it a very awkward and unpleasant situation. Based on my experience, I would never ever go back to this place

Negative experience: I got a tattoo at Art n Soul a few years ago (4 to be exact) that was very poorly done — blotchy lines, uneven lettering, and misaligned so it almost looked like a different word. I raised my concerns at the time, but was told to “give it time to even out.” I wasn’t able to get it fixed sooner due to personal circumstances that prevented me from safely doing so. Over the years, I called multiple times to check if I could get it fixed (specifying the year it was done), and was repeatedly reassured that Art n Soul guarantees their work for life and would correct it — as long as they could locate the stencil. When I finally followed up and sent all relevant details and photos, I was told they don’t keep stencils that long, contradicting what I was told before. I was then told I would need to pay to fix their mistake, which was frustrating given it was their original error. After pushing back, the artist I spoke with agreed to fix it for free and booked me in. However, when I arrived for the appointment, the shop was locked with a note saying the artist had gone to a bike show — no message, and I had already taken time and money to get there. He later contacted me saying it was a misunderstanding and that he meant the following week, which would have been two weeks after his original message not including the week of the message. He then booked me in again promptly, but cancelled when he saw my negative review detailing my experience at that point,( which i had edited after he had booked me in the second time to specify that it had been a negative experience so far but would be updated once the work had been done to be a reflection of the outcome) telling me to go to the tattoo artist who originally did it — who was at Art n Soul. I completely understand that this wasn’t the individual artist’s fault that i was dealing with and it’s not about any specific person — not him or the artist hes said he thinks done it. The concern is with Art n Soul as a business and their responsibility to honour promises made to clients. Even if the artist who done the work has moved on, the company remains responsible. You wouldn’t expect to chase down a former grocery store worker at their new café job over a product issue from their former grocery store; it would only make sense to contact the original worker if they had transferred to a different store under the same company. The same principle applies here. According to the NZBN, Art n Soul has been under the same ownership since 2014, unless that information is not correct or has not been updated, which supports the company’s responsibility for promises made during that period. I have requested the artists contact (who done the work) so I can follow up directly, as advised by Paul after the second appointment was cancelled by him. However, despite feeling that Art n Soul as a business is ultimately responsible, I am not planning to rebook a third appointment, as the previous attempts did not resolve the issue and I prefer to follow up directly with the original artist now. I will also look into other resolutions to ensure the issue is addressed. I want to clarify that this review is not a reflection on Paul’s skill or artwork which im sure is probably very good ( i have not personally seen his work) It concerns the tattoo I received from another artist who worked at Art n Soul, as well as my experience with the company’s follow-up, phone calls, and handling of guarantees when I tried to have it corrected. Unfortunately due to the entire situation I cannot recommend this shop. I’ve lost all trust in their work and professionalism, despite previously recommending them to friends.this is my honest review based on my experience

Negative experience: (leaving another review since I lost access to Star Xkat Gmail account) I can assure you my bad experience was with art n soul, the name was starlia Costa. The other peircer I went to has told me that the fault wasn't my own due to neglegence or not cleaning well. I even got a second opinion in Auckland. I have had 14 peircings and this is the only one I had any issue with, and the only I got from art n soul. I now have permanent scarring in the inside of my mouth, the peircing was also peirced far too high compared to my other snake bite. Now also have quite a bit of scar tissue in my lip now. I didn't come back to art n soul to get it fixed because of the screw up in the first place, I would rather get it fixed by someone else I have been to before and I know will do a good job then risk it being botched again and possibly never getting another lip peircing because of too many screw ups. Thanks

Negative experience: Got my lip pierced here. Ring was too big couldent even close my mouth so he had to remove it and put a new one in while it was fresh. Didn't warn me that rings don't heal well and can reject. Cleaned my lip daily for a month but still got bad keyloids and had to remove it. Another piercing place is helping me fix it by letting it heal and repiercing it later.

However...What a special place!!!...I would Totes recommend to Everyone...It was my First time, I was a Cleanskin till the other day & Im 46 !!! I had a few hours to wait whilst my Partner got Inked up & I was in a Quandry bout the colours for my Rose,, I looked at the Tatoo Mags for 2 hours but happily so I felt So welcomed and at home with the "Buzzy" yet Chilled vibe at Art n Soul...What a relaxed ,friendly, Dedicated and Professional Team !!!
