Firstly I want to say how welcoming everyone in the shop was, from being tattooed by only one artist before and having a roughly 10 year break, it was a bit of an anxious filled decision to get back into it. From the first email to finishing the first piece today it was a fantastic experience and it speaks volumes about the care and quality of the shop. Now onto Gary; Gary was absolutely incredible, he took my ideas written down and my badly made attempt at a design and made it something I am absolutely ecstatic with. It's the best tattoo I've had thus far and it's solidified the ongoing relationship with Gary. He was patient, showed me the design and explained the design decisions in a way that made sense, it was a brutal first piece back into the world of tattooing, but Gary is a workhorse and I'm glad I've found an artist as patient, talented and understanding as him. Thanks again for the great experience and I'll be back as soon as this ones healed!

Negative experience: Completely rude and unprofessional behaviour from the tattooist, wanted some traditional Hebrew tattooed on me to be proud of heritage, tattooist was completely anti Semitic and refused to tattoo Hebrew, even though he did not know what it meant. He had no idea what he was talking about and refused to tattoo it due to his personal beliefs about Israel, even though the tattoo I wanted had nothing to do with current affairs and if he had spoken to me about it or even asked for an elaboration he would of realised the ignorance of his behaviour

I reached out late Thursday evening, and by Friday lunchtime, I had already received a response and popped in to discuss my design, and by Saturday lunchtime, I had my amazing tattoo done by Lewy Turner! I was a bit nervous walking in on Friday, but I really had no reason to be – the entire team was so welcoming and made me feel comfortable right away. Lewy, in particular, was incredible and we chatted the whole way through. Lewy was amazing because i completely changed my mind on what i wanted and Lewy designed something completely different! The final result exceeded all of my expectations and I LOVE it. I am beyond grateful for the entire Black Letter team, especially Lewy. I can't wait to return for more tattoos in the future! I go back to him because he comes up with some great designs, is easy to talk to and makes the tattoo as easy as possible! My healing has been amazing each time with clean instruments and clear instructions on aftercare. Everyone in the shop is so welcoming and friendly, a different experience to my first tattoo some years back, and it makes a difference to the enjoyment of the process! 100% recommend any of the artists here!!

I've been travelling to BL every few weeks or so to complete a stunning full sleeve which has totally exceeded expectations, thanks to letting James loose on how we do this. I totally trust him to design on the fly for the best results, to include elements of a tricky cover up. Thanks James - and team, as the atmosphere is always fun too, top drawer all round!

He was careful throughout, thorough and ensured that the tattoo was exactly as designed! Quite the artist! Will be returning soon to finish my sleeve!

Negative experience: Came into the shop for a very easy simple tattoo 8 letters very small done via stencil (I’m covered In tatts head to toe) tried quoting me £120 (20mins work) I went down the road and had the same done for £60 save your money there’s a lot better quality for money about in Gloucester Ripoff merchants taking the mick out of people steer clear

Fantastic experience: For a first tattoo it went amazing and I’m so happy and proud with the final result, Gary took great care of me and me comfortable even taking time to make sure I was alright during the end when I unexpectedly felt a bit unwell and even though there was 20 seconds left of the tattoo he still waited until I was better to continue. Fantastic experience: I got my 3rd tattoo at Black Letter Tattoo 2 weeks ago this Saturday & I’m so impressed with the skill of the artists here & the quality of their work. My latest ink was so painless (on my right forearm, near the wrist), it was more like being tickled with a feather & it was so relaxing I was genuinely disappointed when he said he’d finished as I was nearly asleep. After 5 hours, I took the bandage off & no blood, no ink, only a tiny bit of plasma on the bandage. I had no swelling/redness or any discomfort at all that I wondered why??! It took 11 days until I saw any sign of scabbing/peeling & this was so minimal I cld only see it with my reading glasses on & under bright light. It is now almost completely healed & in the shiny phase & I’m loving my new addition to my (small) collection. I honestly can’t recommend Black Letter enough (especially if you’re scared of tattoo pain)!! All their artists are top-notch & award winning standard. I love all my pieces I’ve had done here & will no doubt be adding to my collection very soon! Thanks so much guys, from one highly satisfied customer.

Jack was incredibly professional and made me feel at ease throughout the entire process. The studio itself was clean and well-maintained, which was important to me when getting a piercing. Jack took the time to explain the aftercare instructions and made sure I understood how to properly care for my piercing and even checked in with me after 2 weeks to make sure that everything was healing properly. Their level of care and attention to detail really made a difference. The piercing looks great and has healed really well... no pain, no swelling! I would definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking to get their tongue pierced or any other type of piercing. Thank you, Jack, for such a great experience!

Fantastic experience: Had my nose pierced by Jack about 8 weeks ago. He was very helpful in terms of reassuring me throughout the piercing, as well as providing clear aftercare instructions. I’ve had no issues with the nose stud, went back in today to have it changed over and as expected, he was very welcoming and accommodated me and a friend who also wanted to have some spontaneous piercing! Would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Amazing place! I recently had my septum pierced by Jack and I was made to feel so at ease. I previously had a septum piercing at another place in Gloucester, which was poorly done and put me off!! Will definitely be back for future piercings.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been to Jack several times over the last couple years. One set of my piercings are on his wall. So Jack was an obvious choice when my daughter turned 14 and wanted her ears pierced. My daughter has ADHD and Jack was reassuring, kind and didn’t do anything until she was ready.
