Experiencia fantástica: My first tattoo! I’ve been thinking about this moray design for years, and @danstenderart (Instagram) at Sacred Art was able to bring it to life. His head pokes sneakily out below a short sleeve, and his body wraps around the shoulder and back under the arm to the chest! It was an 8-hour endurance test for both me and Dan. Everyone at the shop was so nice and supportive. Thanks for an amazing experience!

I had a beautiful piece done by Shaye a while ago and just got another stunner done today by Kaitlin ♡ Both of these gals were great with communication in DM and in person. I felt so comfortable and not pressured in any way whatsoever. In both experiences, I felt 100% confident with everything that goes into the tattooing process. My tattoos came out even better than I imagined and I love being able to flaunt the art around. And honestly I’m so awkward with small talk at times but talking with Shaye and Kaitlin was just easy chit chat like they were one of my gals !! 10/10 recommend :))

She accommodated my boyfriend and I as two walk ins but we were able to get true pieces that you would normally need to schedule an appointment for. Then when our artist arrived, they were absolutely AMAZING. From their personalities to their talent, beyond what I could've even asked for. My artist was Kaitlin and she did a cover up for me. She nailed it. The BS on my leg is covered perfectly and she accommodated every single request. She took her time and really did her thangggggg. There was a few ideas I presented, she offered pure honesty within the scope of her expertise and together we collaborated the perfect piece of art. I am so grateful and I would encourage everyone to go here and check them out. The entire staff is spectacular!!!!

Experiencia fantástica: My friends and I stumbled upon this place and loved that the space was bright, and during the day has a coffee bar which makes waiting for friends or an appointment so convenient. We worked with Alex who was super talented (but apparently not there often), and she gave us quick, painless piercings and then an improvised spam musubi tattoo with amazing shading and color work. The apprentice at the front desk (so sorry we didn't get their name!) was also super friendly, which helped my nervousness as a first-timer and convinced me that this place would take care of me. I'll have to come back for the coffee!

Experiencia fantástica: We found this shop while wandering around Waikiki during our anniversary trip . So glad we walked in and talked to receptionist. We set our appointments for 9pm and they were very accommodating to our needs, also the coffee bar up front is an awesome addition to the Tattoo studio. When we arrived for our sessions we met our artists. Blaine was very personal and professional and made sure he completely understood what I was wanting, he took a short time to put my vision to paper and then to stencil. The entire studio was very clean and inviting So glad we chose this place for our most recent travel ink, and Blaine thank you again

Experiencia negativa: Cafe hours are not what is listed. I didn't go there for breakfast, only coffee. They linked them to the tattoo parlor hours, but they close early. Coffee brought me to Waikiki, but no coffee to be had here. Owner replied to this review, but the issue is not corrected. They list hours for breakfast not cafe hours. The cafe hours are until midnight, so I added this screenshot.

We wanted to get something to mark this incredible trip and when we did our research, it was a no-brainer to come here. Clean, great artists with quality work, legit aloha vibes, and a cool shop! Experiencia positiva: Made an appointment as a group of three. While the artists were friendly and highly professional, the blonde receptionist was the opposite. Her rather-be-anywhere-else attitude was a major turn off. Thanks to the artists for making that sour impression sweeter.

Experiencia negativa: Tattoo artist did amazing, and tattoo turned out amazing. This review has nothing to do with the artist I was very happy with him and his work. Unfortunately this shop is more of a scam. For a tiny tiny tattoo they charged $250 then suddenly you have to pay money to get cash out of ATM or they charge you even more to use a card, then you get taxed about $50 just for a tattoo. I have never ever had a worse experience with the actual shop. Biggest scam I have ever seen and I have never ever paid a shop for my tattoo only the artist, and I have never ever paid tax on a tattoo or been charged to use my debit card. So sadly for two pointer finger sized tattoos and barely any detail I paid damn near $600, oh and they don’t tell you about all these extra charges till after. They only tell you the amount of tattoo and that they prefer cash, but then still charge tax Don’t do it!!

Experiencia positiva: I'll start this review by saying the tattoo is fine. I am Kanaka Oīwī living in the lower 48, and was determined on my first ever visit to O‘ahu (my ancestral island) to get a Hawaiian tribal tattoo before I left. I have Hawaiian tribal tattoos all over my arms, all done by the same Hawaiian-born artist who spent years studying the art style. I have a lot of experience getting tattoos, am well-researched on the art style, and know how much a reasonably priced tattoo should cost. I also consider my own tattoos to be sacred representations of myself and my journey in life. This background info is very important to this review. I came in on a Tuesday to make an appointment with Mako; I was staying within walking distance of the shop and wanted an artist who specialized in cultural tattoos, but was told he was booked out until after I'd be leaving the island. The person at the front desk assured me of the expertise and knowledge of one of the other artists in the specific style I wanted, so I booked an appointment for that Saturday. I payed the $50 deposit, then came back Wednesday to meet the artist and consult about what I specifically wanted. I put a lot of thought into the design I wanted, and settled on a shark in the shape of a fishhook, since the shark is my family's Aumakua, which I specifically said in the consult. I provided a reference image, but told him I wanted something original, and I'd be alright if he took *some* artistic liberty with the design. I specifically asked him about how much he charges (hourly or by design), and he specifically told me this tattoo would cost $350-400. That seemed a little steep to me, but I agreed to the quoted price. I came in for my appointment that Saturday. The artist showed me the design he'd worked on, and it was completely different from what I described and from the reference photo I gave him. It was as if he only heard three words during our consultation and then did whatever he wanted. The biggest issue was he totally removed the shark, and I told him that the shark was the most important part of it because the shark is my Aumakua. He seemed very insulted that I didn't want the design he'd made; it was a beautiful design, I want to be clear, but it was not what I, the client paying hundreds of dollars for permanent art on my body, wanted. He ended up just printing out the reference tattoo and literally only changing the honu on the side to be more simple. During the session, I suggested a couple changes he could make to the design in order for it to be more original and representative of who I am, but he refused each suggestion, either saying he couldn't do it, or telling me it didn't make sense. The whole tattoo took about an hour and a half; I was really happy with the clean lines and the placement. I got some money from the ATM to tip, and was told at the front desk the total cost of the tattoo would be $500. When I said I had been quoted something different a few days prior, the person at the desk replied, "Well, I wasn't here a few days ago, so I can't help with that." I just paid it and let the artist keep my $100 tip, but it's been several weeks since this happened and I'm still upset about the lack of professionalism and respect for me as the client. I felt like I was being treated like some idiot who wandered in off the street, rather than an experienced client who specifically chose this shop out of all the shops in Waikīkī. They didn't seem to care about what getting this tattoo meant to me, and now my tattoo is tainted by that energy. The tattoo itself is fine, like I said, the lines are clean, but it just isn't original or dynamic the way I wanted, and it DEFINITELY was not worth $500; I wish I'd looked harder for a true Hawaiian artist who respected what I wanted. Next time I'll book someone well in advance of my visit. Overall, if you want great art and don't care about specifics or ego, this is a great shop with very talented artists. If you want to be taken seriously as a client, maybe choose a different artist.

We felt comfortable the entire time and left with tattoos we’re very happy with. Artwork & Quality: The tattoos turned out great, and it’s clear the artists take pride in their craft. We’ll always carry these as reminders of our time in Hawaii. Pricing: The only downside was the cost. We completely understand Hawaii is more expensive in general, but the pricing felt higher than expected for what we received. That said, we want to emphasize that this doesn’t take away from the skill or professionalism of the artists—it’s just something for future visitors to be aware of. Overall: If you’re looking for a memorable tattoo experience in Waikiki with talented artists and a unique atmosphere, Sacred Art and Coffee is worth visiting. Just know going in that prices may run on the higher side.
