Experiencia fantástica: I had an incredibly good experience at black amethyst! When I walked in I knew I would feel safe and comfortable the whole time. I was greeted with a large open space where everyone was chatting and having a good time. My artist was Ireland and I felt comfortable enough to speak up about moving the stencil multiple times (I always get a little nervous). I have attached a photo of my fresh tattoo and how it healed 3 years later. I also found out afterwards that I have a minor allergy to the ink and Ireland was kind enough to send me what brand she used so that I can tell future artists.

Experiencia fantástica: I went to Ireland Bower to get my dream piece down on my spine. I didn't give her much direction other than beachy feminine and shark and she created the most beautiful tattoo for me that I get compliments on constantly. Not only is she an incredible artist but she is the sweetest person. Kept really fun and engaging conversation and kept a close eye on me to make sure I was comfortable during the whole process. Definitely going back to her for future tattoos!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I got this beautiful tattoo done by Ireland. I have a couple other tattoos done at other places by some pretty awesome artists but it had always felt awkward or weird. I am a quiet person and anxious around people I don't know but she made me feel comfortable the whole time. I also had to move my originally tattoo thanks to some health issues but they were understanding and worked with me, even when mother nature decided to drop a couple inches of snow the morning of my appointment. From start to finish it was an amazing experience and the shop is so welcoming and comfortable. I can't wait to go back for my next tattoo in a few weeks.

Experiencia negativa: Horrible, horrible experience. I moved up here recently from Florida and was looking for a tattoo place when I came across this business. I didn’t look at google reviews (big mistake), but had looked at their work on instagram and Facebook and really liked their art and the fact that they are women owned. My sister recently passed and I was looking to get a memorial tattoo for her. So I decided to choose them for my first tattoo since moving. I scheduled my appointment about a month in advance and paid my deposit as soon as I got the email request for it. Fast forward to the morning of my appointment, I get a message from Haylee saying my artist’s babysitter had an emergency and we need to reschedule my appointment- a little bummed of course but no big deal. Things happen. She said she’d get back to me with some dates to reschedule and I said, “okay thank you!” No response the rest of the day. No worries, she was probably busy. I sent a check-in text the next day- no response all day. The next day I sent another text about dates to reschedule and finally got a response after 2 hours to reschedule for the next week. A little hesitant now but we’ve got the appointment set. I decide to look at some google reviews to see if I should be worried. I see about 5 people with the same experience regarding not one, but multiple cancellations, lack of communication, etc. The same issue. This definitely angers me but my appointment has been rescheduled, i decide to wait and see what happens. Like the google reviews of other people’s experience, the morning of my rescheduled appointment comes and I wake up to a cancellation text from my artist, Ireland, personally this time. I completely understand things come up and emergencies happen, but it shouldn’t be repeated pattern like the google reviews show. On top of that, the lack of response and communication is even worse. This is definitely a problem.

Experiencia fantástica: Ireland was lovely!! Went for my first ever tattoo(s) & she made the process easy and seamless. I was worried about being judged, but I experienced nothing but respect and kindness. Shop was cute and clean. No complaints:) i’m eager to go back in December for more!!

Experiencia negativa: I was super excited to get my first tattoo from this shop, I had scheduled my appointment, paid my deposit, then a couple weeks from my appointment they text me and tell me they need to reschedule, which is no problem. Then, two days prior to my original appointment date, they text me again and say that they ment to cancel someone else’s appointment and not mine and asked if I could come in literally the next day. Obviously I couldn’t because I can’t just call out of work and I had just put my cat down. I asked if I could schedule for something two months out instead but they never responded. Super disappointed with this shop and their lack of proper communication. It just put me off from ever wanted to do business with them.

Experiencia negativa: Very disappointed that Erica said she would reopen her books on 8/15 and she did not. She originally opened them on 8/1 for flash, then decided they were open for everything. She told a client she would still open them on 8/15. Bad business practice to change what you promised to a client. I have heard from another artists that they are mean to work for. Love the work, hate how unorganized this practice is. My first tattoo here was a decent experience, but as time goes on they are not consistent with customer service. They also never tattoo men, I’m pretty sure they aren’t even willing to book them.

After some miscommunication in the booking process, Sadie and Hailey went above and beyond to turn my experience around and take accountability for the miscommunication. What I ended up with exceeded all of my expectations. Sadie was friendly, offered plenty of breaks and snacks, ensured that I was comfortable. I truly felt comfortable in the studio. It was very clean and the decor was really cool. My tattoo is incredible and I am so grateful to the staff at Black Amethyst. I am forever with a work of art and I hope to have more positive future experiences with this shop.

She was very kind and understanding about my pain tolerance and allowed me to take breaks when needed, along with helping me with anything I needed or questions I had. She provided me with great aftercare advice and was so very kind while I was in her chair. Not only that, but the place in general is comfortable and welcoming for everyone! Both tattoos healed up wonderfully and when I get the money I'll definitely be coming back for more, with none other than Ireland herself!

It was incredibly important to me as it was a memorial piece that she did for my father. It meant the world that she did it and everything about it is perfect to this day.

Experiencia fantástica: Firstly, I have done four of my five tattoos all here at Black Amethyst, and I absolutely love this tattoo shop. I recommend all artists there, but especially Ireland Bower, Avery, Erica, and Rachel. They do amazing work! My most recent tattoo was done by Ireland, who gave me a beautiful moth with roses forearm tattoo. During the tattoo, she was very patient and happily talkative. I loved chatting with her and would love to come back for another tattoo in the future. Perhaps to fill up my arm, that will one day be a sleeve! There was a minor blowout in the ditch of my arm, but she was fast to offer a solution!

Experiencia fantástica: I was able to get tattooed by Sadie, along with my sister-in-love. Sadie had a black Friday gift certificate sale and we were able to both use that to get tattooed which was awesome. I got a larger thigh piece, first one in that spot and she did just a great job with size and placement and really made me love it! I wanted a combination of 2 of her flash designs and she brought them together so well and I am obsessed with this tattoo. My sister-in-love got matching fairy girls on her wrist and hand and was so happy with the placement, it quickly led to future hand tattoos! We loved our experience and the vibe of Black Amethyst Tattoo. I follow Sadie and the shop and a few others from the shop on Instagram, I love seeing their art on others and updated flash, and I will certainly return and recommend them anytime. I will say in full transparency, I wrote this review for a chance to win a flash tattoo.. I never write reviews for places cause I'm lazy and I forget, but if I'm gonna take the time to do it, it will be honest and thoughtful! And I really did love my experience and my tattoo and continue to love it and the way it empowers me and my body image. And if this review can encourage someone to find their new safe space and get beautiful art by trusted nondiscriminatory ladies, then I hope it does!

Experiencia fantástica: I've had three tattoos done by Sadie and her work is impeccable! I love her girly cute tattoo style, it's hard to find a feminine tattoo artist in the Akron area. Sadie is very easy to book with too. She also tattoos very fast and I don't know if I feel that way because I haven't had any very large pieces done by her, but it feels like 5 minutes of tattooing. (I hate when artists take their sweet time dragging the needle through your skin). As for the shop, I love the vibes. The shop has a very friendly and welcoming environment, which is a huge shift from most tattoo shops I've visited. If I could give a 6/5 star I would-- I cannot recommend this shop enough and I will continue to have my tattoos done by Sadie, as she's the best!!

Experiencia negativa: I switched from my usual tattoo shop to support a woman owned and operated shop. Artist ran late - 20 mins, no big deal. Upon her arrival, I waited an additional 75 minutes PAST my appointment time for her to begin. Her sketch wasn’t really close to what I had wanted (sent in reference photos, as requested), she had no idea I asked for color, and continued to take long breaks during my small (although I asked for larger) tattoo. Just all around unprofessional experience. It turned out well enough, but the lack of professionalism and consideration totally turned me off to future patronage. Artist was Rachel.(tattooed late May 2023, elbow)

My artist Erica was absolutely incredible and the work she did was SO good I literally cried a little LOL. The vibes are right, the people are stellar - make this your next stop for sure.

Experiencia negativa: Very disappointed in this shop. My tattoo artist moved out of state so I was looking for a new artist to finish my patchwork sleeve. I wanted a female artist and I came across this shop and our beliefs aligned so I was super excited to be tattooed there. I inquired into Avery through their online form and waited two weeks for a response. When I finally got a response I was told that they were not accepting my project at this time or the artist booked up too fast. This makes no sense to me because their IG shows Avery’s books are open and the IG story says Avery is booking into December and January. I also asked for a floral design which is mainly what Avery’s IG consists of. I wasn’t referred to another artist or anything. It is pretty disappointing that they advertise their books are open and the art I want done is literally what they do. Glad to see they’re not hurting for business but I would have appreciated a better explanation instead of wasting my time waiting to book for two weeks or at least a referral to one of their other artists.

Experiencia fantástica: I was tattooed by Erica and the experience was incredible! The vibes in the shop are so comforting and unique. I’ve been to several tattoo studios where artists are unprofessional or unwelcoming, so Black Amethyst was a breath of fresh air. My tattoo looks amazing and I felt so comfortable the whole time. I cannot thank Erica enough for her incredible work!!

Experiencia fantástica: i’ve gotten two tattoos from Avery and am so in love with both of them. her art is excellent and she works so efficiently- my 8-inch tall thigh piece only took her like 80 minutes total! and it looks absolutely perfect! the shop itself is so cute and comfortable as well, i just can’t say enough good things and hope to get tattooed by Avery again soon / try to book an appointment with another of the artists there.

Experiencia positiva: I think my tattoo looks nice, but I am disappointed with the service I received. I was trying to make conversation with my artist and telling her how much I looked up to her and her work and she didn’t really acknowledge anything I was saying. The whole reason I wanted to come to this studio was for the opportunity to be comfortable to be myself and not be afraid to express concerns or ask questions. I was planning to get a whole sleeve done by this artist but now I am going to find someone else who won’t make me feel the way my artist did. I felt so out of place being here and as if I didn’t belong here and that’s why I give it 3 stars.

Experiencia fantástica: Slinkii is an amazing and skilled tattoo artist. I was in their chair for their first large coverup piece, and they NAILED IT!!! It was better than expected and now I have a badass leg piece instead of a reminder of my ex husband. I would go to them a million times over! Couldn't recommend them more. I felt comfortable almost instantly and you could tell Slinkii cared about my comfort, even tho I was a new client. 10/10 will always come back for more ink!

Experiencia fantástica: Firstly, this shop is so cool. Secondly, as a queer person I have never felt more comfortable in a public space than I did while I was in the chair here. Every single artist in this shop is incredibly talented and welcoming. Also, they’re all so fun. Now onto the artist I specifically worked with, Slinkii. Their art is incredible. They made me feel so welcome and at ease. Prior to my appointment with them I only had gotten one other tattoo fresh out of high school, a small all text piece, which pales in comparison of both size and detail to the piece Slinkii designed for me. From start to finish the entire process was enjoyable and chill. I’m so glad that after waiting 13 years to get another tattoo that I did so with Slinkii @ Black Amethyst. I cannot recommend Slinkii or this shop enough. I will definitely be returning soon!

Experiencia fantástica: i had such a wonderful experience getting tattooed by Slinkii in June of last year! the folks that work here create such a welcoming environment, and the vibes are just the best. as someone that struggles with social anxiety, it really means a lot when genuine care and consideration are present so clients feel comfortable and safe. plus, Slinkii’s artwork is just gorgeous, and i’m so grateful to be able to display it forever

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been tattooed twice at Black Amethyst by 2 different artists (Corinna and Slinkii). Both experiences were amazing. The shop is inviting, safe and comfortable. Everyone is so friendly and cheers each other on. Both of the artists I’ve gotten tattoos from provided excellent designs based on my limited direction and amazing finished products. Def recommend this shop and artists to anyone who asks.

Experiencia positiva: I came in with a group for a tattoo with Slinkii. While it was nice of them to cut us a discount for our group, the tattoo was VERY painful, and it bled a lot more than even a 3 hour piece I got done. They continued without a break despite my pain, which made me shake and caused there to be unstraight lines in a completely line based tattoo, an issue no one else in my group had. I understand wanting to get through everyone in the group, but the experience just wasn’t very pleasant. I’m hoping as it ages it’ll spread some and you won’t be able to tell. For now it looks better from a distance. Besides that experience, I think the shop had very nice vibes all around. I could see myself going here, just with a different artist. That being said, Slinkii is still a good tattoo artist, just not the artist for me personally.

Experiencia fantástica: Found Sadie on TikTok and my daughter was immediately obsessed with her work. Made the 3 hr drive and let me tell you it was 100% worth it. The shop had a great vibe, and Sadie was awesome. The tattoo she did on my daughter was amazing, the attention to detail and her line work was outstanding. I’m sure we will make another 3 hr trip in the future for her next one.

Experiencia fantástica: Working with the staff at Black Amethyst was wonderful from first contact through leaving with my gorgeous tattoo. Ireland designed exactly what I was looking for. She altered the design to cover scars I have from a dog attack. Her line work was amazing as was her color. She checked in regularly with me as I do have some nerve damage that can be very painful. My wife was so pleased she booked with Ireland right then and there. The studio is an absolute safe space for queer folks.

Experiencia fantástica: Update 03/04. I loved the work done by Slink. They were fast and efficient. Will be back for more. . . . I booked an appointment with Rachel Marie since Sept 19th for the appointment date on Oct 17th at11 AM. After arriving on time, I had to wait 30 min at the lobby only to be told by the artist herself that she was not ready with the art I provided 5 days prior for the appointment date. She said she thought it was an easy sketch, but turns out it was the opposite. She, then, try to make it seem it was my fault for sending her a new sketch so close to tattooing date to which I asked if she already had the “old” design ready, her answer was no. I would have rebook with her, but I realized how unprofessional she was for being unprepared and for not being punctual. Anyways, I was disappointed (absolutely) but I am glad I wasn’t inked by an artist who is so irresponsible. I know it’s unfair to give two stars, but to whoever it is trying to book I would suggest avoiding Rachel.

Experiencia fantástica: Let me start this off by saying that Black Amethyst was an extraordinary experience from beginning to end. I was fortunate enough to have Slinkii as an artist, who was friendly, positive, helpful, and talented. I couldn’t be happier with my tattoo! This was my very first tattoo and I felt comfortable and welcome at BA. I would trust Slinkii with all my future tattoos. If you’re thinking about coming, you definitely should!

Experiencia negativa: I had an appointment made with Avery which she cancelled only hours before for a family emergency which I was understanding about and I was able to reschedule with her the following week. 2 hours before that appointment I received a text from her cancelling due to illness which I also understood. She offered to do the tattoo for free which I was very grateful for. I texted back within minutes trying to figure out a time to reschedule for. Days and several texts went by before I finally got a response. I ended up just getting my deposit back because communication was lacking. I had taken off work twice for this and still don’t have the tattoo. I didn’t feel like this was handled very professionally and I didn’t feel like she cared about my appointment anymore since she would not be making any money off of it. I planned to tip and she would still get my deposit money. I felt this whole experience was handled poorly. I’m disappointed with how this was handled and will not be trying here again. I love what this company stands for and their views but the service hasn’t been great.

She does better than I expect every single time, and I always walk out of there feeling amazing. Not only from the tattoos Sadie gives me, but the time I get to spend with her. She is an inspiring woman and I am thankful to share these experiences with her.

Everyone at the shop was kind and attentive asking if I needed snacks or a Gatorade. Sadie was patient and genuine, letting me look over her designs and chat about placement ideas. Nothing but a positive experience, and I left with some beautiful art!
