I've been a client at Lucky Monkey Ritual for over 2 years, and I cannot say enough amazing things about my tattoo artist, Josh Figueroa. He is incredibly professional, maintains impeccable sanitary standards, show genuine understanding of their clients' needs, and are extremely talented at their craft. The quality of work here is outstanding. However, there's one significant issue that has persisted throughout my time as a client: the music situation. There appears to be only one person controlling the music for the entire shop, and they play the exact same playlist every single visit. After 2+ years of appointments every month to every couple of months, hearing the same songs repeatedly has become genuinely frustrating - not just for me, but I can tell it affects other clients and artists too. One simple solution that wouldn't require major changes would be to allow other people in the shop to have certain days where they can play their own music on the main speaker system. This could provide some much-needed variety without overhauling the entire setup. Music is such an important part of the tattoo experience, especially during longer sessions. When neither you nor your artist has any control over what's playing, it can create an uncomfortable atmosphere. I'd love to see Lucky Monkey consider giving individual artists control over their room's music, or even offering the option closing off the individual rooms where clients could have privacy and watch movies or work in silence. The talent here is incredible, but this ongoing music issue is starting to impact the overall experience. With such skilled artists, a small change like this could make Lucky Monkey truly exceptional.

Fantastic experience: UPDATE: A few weeks later, healed fully and still has me speechless. DJ captured my intent perfectly. The original text is supposed to look written in pencil and the feeling is there. Love it. Added a new photo too. Original: DJ here helped me get some very important words and imagery on my arm as a first tattoo. From the consult through to the tattoo he was extremely professional and courteous, offered guidance and advice and was always open to questions. Fantastic bedside manner and definitely want to work with him again. The work itself is everything I wanted to even the finest detail and truly left me speechless as a left my appointment. I can't thank him enough! Will be sure to add another photo once everything is fully healed!

Fantastic experience: Meatloaf qualifies for sainthood. Easily the most patient person I've ever met, incredibly understanding. For someone whose job it is to punch holes in your body, he's unbelievably gentle. May only great and wonderful things happen to this absolute treasure. If he were ever to retire, I'd never get pierced again. I simply do not trust anyone else to stab me.

Fantastic experience: I got a beautiful monochrome tattoo from Josh. He is one of the few artists that can deliver on black and white tattoos consistently. He is also kind and funny. It was the shortest three hours I have had in a while.

Aside from it being gorgeous inside, Meatloaf made the experience very comfortable. He walked me through everything before and after, and was super nice. I’m very happy with my piercings!

Fantastic experience: Good place for a tattoo. Definitely recommend it. I only have experience with Gama tattoos so I can only speak on his art and service. He was professional, communicative and nice. His lines art is well done his shading is very nice. He was capable and fun during his tattoo consultation so it felt natural. He was clean and at no point was the hygiene of the Tattoo or equipment in question. The shop was easy to find and had a good atmosphere. The other artist were friendly and seemed like they do a good job as well. They do free consultation and ask for a deposit to book the appointment. The system worked well and was easy

Negative experience: I came in asking if they do walk-ins. All was well until the receptionist talked to a man named DJ and he told me to go somewhere else. I felt so disrespected and rejected, I never had a tattoo shop treat me this way. Unprofessional and snobby for a place that was recommended to me heavily by others. Do not go because you may not fit their aesthetic!

Negative experience: Absolutely appalled at the level of professionalism in this building. I was ratted by DJ and I got some script done and had to return for a touch up. In between both apts he had “thumbs down” my post on social media regarding Donald Trump which is fine. But then, completely ghosted me. I tried multiple times to message him. He just read it and ignored me. I think this is bad business for anyone. Keep your politics out of it. It was never a problem prior to him being on my page. Very weird. In response to your response as the owner. I was put on his schedule after reaching out with my frustrations, was told to email what I wanted and that I’d be booked for my services and they put me BACK on his schedule. Which I said I was not comfortable with due to his actions in ghosting me. I asked to be booked with someone else. So you are incorrect, I did not waste anyone’s time. I am not going to sit down with someone jamming a needle into my skin who clearly dislikes me due to my beliefs and who I support as president HAHAHAHA!!!! I paid very well, tipped both times and planned to do the same again. No one cares about your homo stuff and what you support. The one that cares, is the one that acted the way he did. I was a paying customer from start to finish. And it’s nasty that you allow this in your shop. Best of luck.

Fantastic experience: My daughter and I got piecings last July and the service we received with Meatloaf was great! He kept in touch via text, for scheduling and follow up, and offered to see us for even insignificant concerns. The pricing was higher than I thought it would be, but my daughter was eight at the time and Meatloaf went above and beyond to make her comfortable. Even took a funny memorable picture with her. It was a safe and pleasant environment, I will definitely return.

Fantastic experience: Andrew Alcenius (@kingovworms) was my tattoo artist for my first tattoo and he will do my husbands future tattoo when he is healed up!!! Andrew's professionalism and artistic experience made my anxiousness disappear within minutes of discussing my tattoo design. This design, as with most people, was coming from my heart and is a mantra for the next season of my life. I needed to fine tune it and take it to the next level so it made the statement i wanted it to without screaming at me or others :). Andrew and his knowledge, attentive listening , and patient demeanor brought my hearts desire to life in more ways than I could have ever imagined! I am overjoyed with my beautiful artwork on my arm and my husband of 38 years keeps asking to take a peek at it! I highly recommend Andrew.... THANK YOU ANDREW SO MUCH

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with Meatloaf. My boyfriend was getting his nose pierced by him, and he still took the time to check out my healing nose piercings I got a week before. After determining the jewelry I had in was too short for my healing process, he squeezed me in and changed them out for me right then. I emailed & the owner recommended Brandon to do my tattoo & I'm glad she did. After several emails & several designs Brandon came up with the perfect tattoo. He did an amazing job & I get lots of compliments on it. I would recommend Brandon for anyone looking for a well designed tattoo.

Negative experience: I am new to the area, and was so excited to get a new tattoo at a local shop. I made an appointment and put down my deposit, but the shop's management mishandled my time and trust more than once. I requested a refund on my deposit several weeks ago and am still waiting.

From the moment you book your appointment to the very instant you leave, they streamline the entire process beautifully. My utmost recommendation goes to Alex Gamma. Fantastic experience: I’ve had multiple tattoos done before at a different shop and I can say after coming to lucky monkey with Mandy I won’t be going anywhere else! She was super nice and calm and was very understanding when I told her I have severe anxiety so I might need to move more often than normal and she was super nice about it. She made me so comfortable though I had zero anxiety throughout the entirety of the appointment! I love my piece so much. Shop was so clean and the atmosphere is so cool you can tell they put in a lot of effort into their business. Needless to continue saying I’m impressed and will be back for future tattoos!

All 3 have been fairly quick and simple pieces, but he has treated them and me with the same care as if I was getting a much larger/complicated one. Was communicating for my initial appointment that happened during a snow storm, and the follow up that he may run a smidge late. Made me comfortable most definitely.

Fantastic experience: Dana Forrester (owner) and her husband are the kindest most generous people ever. I had a very rough experience with a new male artist and she refunded me completely and terminated him immediately. Literally within 20 minutes of me coming out about what happened. Her and her husband took the liberty of funding the coverup in its entirety. I feel so incredibly heard and taken care of. Hannah Blackburn(the artist doing my back-piece) is an insanely talented and skillful artist, I could not be happier with how its turning out. Her creativity is unmatched. This place rocks! Great people and beautiful tattoos. I wont be going anywhere else but here.

Fantastic experience: I love, Love, LOVE this shop . It's clean, has great decor, a laid back accepting atmosphere, and fabulous artists and staff. It is my new favorite shop, and Katrina Genge, my all time favorite artist. I went in for a sleeve and so far it is better than I had even imagined it could be. Katrina is personable and immensely to talented. She free drew the tat, which is a forest of trees onto my arm and did the tattoo from there. The detail is incredible! The inside is pretty much done now. The outside needs a bit more work and the sky needs to be added. I will post pics as it is finished and healed.

Negative experience: So disappointed with my piece. I sent reference Pictures to artist Tommy, and met with him. He was having family problems, which is understandable, but when I showed up to my appointment he hadn’t even seen the email where I sent my reference pictures and didn’t know what I was there for. He sketched it out fine and put the stencil on and it looked great. When we were finished I was so so upset. It was over shaded, super dark, and you could barely tell what it was supposed to be. It was so so different than the stencil, I was horrified. I had multiple panic attacks the following week. I contacted the store owner, Dana, to let her know that my art was so completely different than my reference photos (I’ll attach them) and she was helpful at first but basically told me to wait it out. I ended up having to ask for my money back, and will now be scheduling a removal appointment because this piece is the complete opposite of what I was looking for. Really anything would have been better. The pictures at the end are mine. I recommend anyone looking for a tattoo go to name brand tattoo in Ann Arbor instead.

Fantastic experience: Great place,friendly staff, accepts cards very professional. Im actually going there today to get tatted. only thing is that the pics arent updated and they are on packard and platt in ann arbor if it doesn't say this yet. Five years later… walked out of the dispensary with my dads meds they kicked me out but they service the red wing who smokes and owns a dispensary favoritism doesn’t fly with me or a lot of people I’m sure that you will lose business after this.

Negative experience: Had scheduling issues with Katrina Genge, who canceled our initial appointment and was very unresponsive with following up on multiple occasions. The shop itself is fine as this was responded to quick and well, but I think it'd be good to ensure that future clients will receive better and actual responses from Katrina.

Fantastic experience: I'm very selective on where I go for tattoos because I've had some bad experiences but this place is very clean and Covid cautious. I got two tattoos done by Casey and he was amazing. Super nice and professional and I love his work. He was also very accommodating to my friends who had last minute tattoo changes. This is the first time I've gone here but I'd let any of the people tattoo me. If you're looking for a place in the area to go my friends and I agreed this is our new tattoo spot!

Fantastic experience: The staff here are awesome and the shop is very nice looking and clean. I got work done from both Tony and Casey and they were both very kind and welcoming. I will go back! I highly recommend either of those two.

Fantastic experience: Amazing work, good price and super fast. They didn't let us sit with our friend who was being tattooed because of the small rooms. So that kinda took away from the experience, not as fun going as a group.

Fantastic experience: Very rarely do I leave online reviews. Got several piercings done today by Meatloaf. He was extremely knowledgeable walking me through verbally everything he was doing and with good recommendations. This guy knows his stuff, It was a great experience. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Phenomenal job by Kelli!!! I waited months to book with her after seeing her impressive portfolio on instagram & she was so nice & communicative the entire time. She did both my tattoos in one session & they turned out amazing (I’ve already gotten so many compliments). Her detail is unmatched and I highly recommend.

Negative experience: Nasty monkey, I made a appointment with Dana Forrester to get a tattoo from Casey O’Ryan, when I arrived (from out of town) I was told that they were to busy to honor my appointment. This was a event that had been planned for a while and I was very disappointed. They offered me to make a new appointment, that will Not be happening.

Fantastic experience: When you first walk in there’s a sanitizer job station with hand sanitizer and masks. This is a great sign! I loved to see a shop like this value cleanliness and public safety! The employees are super relaxed and very nice. Comfortable seating for waiting and fast process to get waiver info out of the way. Would definitely recommend this place, shoutout to Casey for doing mine. Very thoughtful and calming through the process. Clean everywhere and felt very comfortable as a woman.

Negative experience: They refused to do my tattoo because it made them uncomfortable. What kind of tattoo place does that? Glad I didn't end up getting it here. Oh yeah women can't control their bodies anymore. Right, I forgot. My bad.

Fantastic experience: I received a tattoo from Josh and it was an awesome experience and the tattoo is absolutely stunning. He made sure I was happy with the design and sizing; the whole experience was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend!
