Fantastic experience: I was traveling as a guest artist last year and after being here for a while, I made Charleston and The Blu Gorilla my permanent home. The Artists are all very professional and talented and they make you feel welcome. You will get honest feedback and guidance from any artist you speak to. Give it a go and call or come by to see for yourself!

Fantastic experience: Here for a girls’ trip in Charleston and we decided to get spontaneous tattoos. A server recommended Blu Gorilla, and they fit all of us in as walk-ins the next morning. Fantastic experience: Best tattoo shop in Charleston. All the artists are super sweet and knowledgeable. The owner is the coolest and every time I’m in the shop I feel comfortable and leave with beautiful art.

Negative experience: Was texting the owner for days via Instagram about the work that I wanted done. I sent photos and was given an appointment. I was told that the work would be no problem at all, any artist could do it and multiple were available. I drove over an hour to get to the shop, 5 minutes early for my appointment and was told that whoever I was messaging changed their mind and did not want to do the tattoo. Then no other "artist" was interested in helping. I do not recommend wasting your time with people like this. They clearly could care less about keeping their appointments and do not care about their customers. I usually tip my tattoo artists a ton, especially with easy work like this so it is their loss.

Negative experience: Natalie was my tattoo artist. The dot closest to my nail is so off centered and way to close, it obviously doesn’t match the other dots. I was not told my total UNTIL AFTER I was tattooed. No price was told to me before I got tattooed. $120 for these tiny tattoos. After asking for a discount I only got $20 off.

Positive experience: This shop is hit or miss. Previously, I went a few times this summer and had great experiences with Scott the artist and Moss at front desk. It was always clean, they would fit me in on busy days, and vibes were great. However, this time the shop was visibly dirty and employees complained about work drama. This raised red flags & I decided to walk-in elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Wife came here not planned but she's been wanting to get one more tattoo for awhile. I was a little skeptical at first as I know some places don't take walk ins.... nope they took my wife right in and all I gotta say is Corey is VERY talented and an awesome dude to talk with we nerded out on star wars a little bit which was awesome . The shading, lines everything was absolutely amazing on her tattoo! I WILL be driving back down from NC just to have my next tattoo done by him!!

Fantastic experience: Tim D was awesome, as well as everyone else on the staff. They were very accommodating to a walk in from my wife and me. Tim came up with a sweet little piece for me! Rock on!

Negative experience: I came to this shop with two friends, all of us arriving well before closing, with plenty of time to get tattoos. Instead of being welcomed, we were denied service by the entire staff—who were sitting outside smoking—because they “only take tattoos within 30 minutes before close.” This makes absolutely no sense. If you post business hours, customers should be able to expect service during those hours. Refusing paying clients while you’re still open shows a total disregard for customer service and professionalism. If you’re going to deny people in the middle of your posted hours, just be honest and change your hours online. Otherwise, it comes across as lazy and disrespectful to anyone who chooses to give you their business.

Fantastic experience: My family and I had such a great experience today. The staff were super friendly and worked the 4 of us into their busy schedule without hesitation. We all got small matching tattoos and were out in less than a hour. Noah and Tristian were fantastic and professional! My 3 year old tagged along and Noah gave her own little “tattoo”. It made her day! So so sweet. The shop is cute and clean. They have a decent sized waiting area. Not only are the artists great, but the front desk staff are also very nice and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot!

Negative experience: Called to see if they took walk ins to which they said they did. Showed up 40 minutes before they closed and they said they couldn’t take me even though what I wanted was very small and simple. Also no one was currently being serviced at the time. Heard one of the workers say “we’re about to close, they can’t fire all of us.”

Fantastic experience: Jess was absolutely incredible. She was honest and straight forward when deciding my tattoo position to make sure I was going to be happy with it long term. Did great work and was so cool to talk to. Will definitely book another when I’m in town!

Fantastic experience: Tristan did a couple of my tattoos at the downtown location and they are by far my favorite tattoos I have. He made it a smooth, easy process, and his attention to detail is unmatched! The healing process was very smooth as well. Highly recommend going to see Tristan soon!

Negative experience: Messaged two different people from Blu Gorilla and was just redirected twice and straight ignored after a few messages by both after simply asking what their availability was. Slightly aggravating especially when you're prepared to drop 1k-2k on a tattoo. But I have also heard great things so I encourage anyone looking to give them a shot.

Took the time to adjust my sketch to my liking, was super patient with me to move around the stencil to make sure I was happy before we put on any ink, was super efficient and kind. Fantastic experience: I got a small tattoo from Pabby recently and had the best experience! He was really patient and explained the details of how small tattoos on your foot can fade over time before we ever started. I was determined to get it and enjoy it for the time it lasted and he walked me through the after care process and was so patient when I needed a break. I've been tattooed before but this one was really sentimental and he was the perfect person to get it from. I'll definitely go back to him again.

Fantastic experience: Just had my thumb tattoos done at Blue Gorilla by there Artist named Pabby, and they turned out amazing! He is such a talented artist and truly embodies the old-school tattoo style, which is rare these days. I've had hundreds of tattoos from dozens of artists across the country, and he is by far one of the most professional Badass Artists iv come across and his attention to detail is impressive; I am beyond satisfied with the results. Pabby is now my go-to artist in South Carolina, and I look forward to seeing him for my next tattoo!

Fantastic experience: I love Pabby not only does he have an amazing personality but I love his work. He did a piece on my husbands chest after his brother passed and it is rad. The detail is amazing and the line work pristine. All custom of course. I love my female symbol horns and fire. I gave him an idea what I wanted and asked him to personalize it, it is perfect and a custom piece as well. Definitely speaks lol Awesome tat, great color, painless even pretty much. Fantastic experience: As a person full of tattoos done many places across the country, Blu Gorilla is my absolute go-to favorite spot. I can’t leave this review without highlighting the best artists I’ve ever met- Pabby and Marley. Pabby has done many of my tattoos, some being from years ago that still to this day look freshly done and beautiful! Negative experience: It has now been 3 years since I got my very first tattoo here, and I am about to get it covered up. Here's the story: I went in with my own drawing of a bouquet of flowers for my ribcage. I originally wanted a finer line tattoo, nothing too thin, but they said they didn't do that nor would they recommend. They instead chose a very thick needle, thicker than I ever expected but by the time they let me see it of course it was already done. It was quick, I paid and went home, and when I finally got a good look at it, I noticed that a large piece of the bouquet was literally unfinished, and a part of it was freehanded and looked so weird... I assume the stencil rubbed off, but why wouldn't you use a reference photo? Ask me to see it again? Why would you freehand? I was leaving town the next day as I was just visiting a family member, so I had to contact them about it 2 months later to get it fixed. I explained the issue and when I came in again I was met with so much hostility, as if it was my fault. He told me he did exactly what was on the stencil, even though I was showing him the comparison... He still fixed it, so clearly it was wrong... Anyway, 3 years later and the tattoo is even thicker than it used to be. You can almost barely tell what it is. This is exactly why I wanted the finer line to begin with. Their recommendation ended up worse. If you look close, you can tell it's blown out in nearly all areas. It was a special first tattoo, now I'm going to have to fix it.

Negative experience: This review is only for Brent. I was recommended him by the person at the front desk, but he wasn't there when I was so they connected me with their Instagram. I sent a message to Brent and plenty of reference photos. He replied with his opinion and I was so open to getting my tattoo I offered for him to do whatever he suggested. He never replied after he gave his opinion and I asking him how to move forward. This review has nothing to do with the shop, which in itself is in a great location and everyone has been incredible that I've spoken with. Just to reiterate, this is about Brent.

Fantastic experience: I came in as a walk-in and immediately Henry at the front desk made me feel so welcome and comfortable and matched me with the perfect artist, Natalie, for what I wanted. Natalie worked with me to design exactly what I pictured and the process and final product couldn’t have been better. The attention to detail, care for the customer and love for the craft was exemplified in the work and I couldn’t be happier. Couldn’t recommend enough! 11/10

Fantastic experience: Went to Tim for the Friday the 13th deal today and he was awesome. I’ve been to a lot of shops in Charleston but never this Blu Gorilla location, but my experience was great and I’ll definitely be back in the future. My sister also got a tattoo from Tim that turned out amazing. Henry behind the front desk was great and super helpful, overall a really pleasant experience and I’m excited to come back!

Fantastic experience: Came here years ago when my naval ship was in town. I walked in no appointment and they had space and was accommodating. I've went back home to Canada and gotten tattoos here and the quality doesn't compare to the tattoo I got here. Highly recommend you come here to get your tattoo you won't be disappointed. Fantastic experience: Jeremiah Johnson did a tattoo for me in late 2023 . He was friendly, helpful and serious about his craft. When my sister visited Charleston in Feb 2024 I recommended Blu Gorilla with Jeremiah. She is very pleased as well. The place is clean and people are nice. Henry at the front desk, represents Blu Gorilla very well as the first face you see. Win/win!

Fantastic experience: Austin tattooed 3 of us and did a fantastic job!! We all got fine lined small tattoos and they turned out amazing! He redrew one tattoo a couple times to be exactly what one of us wanted. He took his time to make sure it was perfect drawing and placement. Would highly recommend him!!

Negative experience: Me and my friend went as walk ins and the guy who ended up doing our tattoos was really rude about what we wanted. He kept trying to change our idea about what we wanted on OUR bodies permanently. My friend ended up getting what she liked but she was lectured the entire tattoo session about how he hated the kind of tattoo she was getting. When it was my turn he kept trying to change what I wanted and it ended up being completely different on my body then what I showed him. It was a good tattoo but completely not what I had asked for. I asked for it to match my other tattoos and now it just looks odd and out of place and again was just not the style or thing I was at all asking for and now it is permanently on me forever.

Fantastic experience: I wish I could give more stars. My tattoo is absolutely amazing. My best friend and I came in for a book-related tattoo in a style that mimicked the author’s signature and not only did we get it, but it is better than we imagined (both of us being experienced in getting tattooed). The first thing our artist, Austin Vernon, said after we told him our idea was “thank you for trusting me to do this for you.” I’ve never had anything nicer or more welcoming said to me in a tattoo shop, especially as a walk-in and ESPECIALLY as a woman who likes the kind of stuff tattoo tiktok makes fun of. Everyone we interacted with, from other artists coming by to the front desk were unbelievably kind, welcoming, patient, professional and FANTASTIC AT THEIR JOB. Will return from out of state for more tattoos.

Negative experience: Our artist was Gregory. My friend and I went for simple and small fine line tattoos and the lines are not straight at all. He was not friendly. He maybe had the needle on my skin for 45 seconds. Just wish he would’ve taken his time to ensure a quality tattoo. For how much we paid we were very disappointed with our experience and our tattoos. Would not recommend this place at all.

Fantastic experience: Amazing. I got my first tattoo here to honor my Bichon toy poodle mix who died at almost 17 years old. He was with me through a lot of good times and some very difficult times. My rock. I wanted him with me always. I worked with Pebby to get it right. He was no nonsense and professional. It hurt but it was worth it. I came back a few months later to touch it up and he did it perfectly again. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: My experience was not welcoming. The guy at the front desk was nice, but when he was looking at the inspiration image of a tattoo, one of the artists (the Brit) came up and insulted our choice by calling it "best Pintrest has to offer". After that we didn't want to get tattooed there and left and found a different tattoo shop and artist.

Fantastic experience: They done an amazing job on both mine and my son's tattoos. The tattoo artist and the staff are all so cool Blu gorilla is a very professional, clean & chill tattoo studio . I highly recommend blue gorilla if you want your tattoo done right the way you'd like your tatt done, they listen to what their customers want! Blu Gorilla is badass 10 outta 10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic experience: Me and my husband both went for matching tattoos of our sons birth date and it was by far our best experience. Ashley Huber did both of them and they came out perfect. Ashley and Corey talked to us the entire time and made it such a great experience. Everyone we came into contact to were professional and kind. The shop is very clean and organized. We would definitely drive out of our way to come back.

Fantastic experience: Scott was super helpful, patient, and witty. He designed a fusion between the design my daughter wanted, and what I wanted. I was scared to death, but the entire staff was patient and reassuring. The place was clean, well lit, and spacious, considering how many artists shared the space. If you are considering a tattoo, check them out!

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience at Blu Gorilla with Gregory on Saturday. The wait was quick for a walk in (maybe 10-15 minutes) and everyone was super welcoming and friendly. The shop itself even has an inviting feel to it. Gregory has been a tattoo artist for over 30 years and I could certainly tell. He was very knowledgeable with his work and kind. He gave me step by step instructions on caring for my new tattoo and explained it thoroughly while answering my questions. I am extremely happy with the results of my new tattoo and would strongly recommend this place.

Fantastic experience: had a GREAT experience! the whole staff was friendly and nice. Dre did all the tattoos in my group. She was lovely and did an amazing job. If we weren’t out of town we would definitely be back to get tattoos here forever!!

Fantastic experience: Was visiting from out of town with a group of friends. We walked in on a Saturday right when they opened without appointments. They were very accommodating and got tattooing us within the hour we got there! Corey H was awesome and did a great job with our tattoos. The whole staff was nice, place was nice and clean. Would highly recommend!
