Espy Tattoo Studio

Fantastic experience: I went into Espy Tattoo Studio a few weeks ago and made some enquiries with Sage, as I had seen some of her work and had only heard good things about her. She was friendly and helpful, and immediately put me at ease. Yesterday, I went back to get the tattoo done. It was my first. I really enjoyed my time in the studio. Sage is clearly a very talented artist and Espy is a great space, with a really friendly & professional atmosphere. I felt in really good hands (literally), from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Lovely experience Boysie was extremely patient helping me with making a decision on size and positioning of my tattoo. He made me feel very relaxed and didn't rush me at all even though it took me a while to decide! Thank you!

Which didn’t take long because Sage was a mind reader. The studio was peaceful and comfortable. And she uses the quietest tattoo machine ever! It was right next to my ear and I could barely hear it. Fantastic experience: I had a really enjoyable experience visiting Epsy Tattoo. I had previously popped in for a chat and was so surprised at how welcoming they were. Lucy discussed some possible ideas with me and was so accommodating and easy to chat to. I had a family emergency and had to cancel my appointment with short notice but was met with understanding and care. When I did get to attend, it was a relaxing experience. The atmosphere was so calm and friendly. Lucy asked so many questions about what I wanted so I was really able to get across my idea. After having a number of tattoos in other shops it was a real treat to not feel intimidated and actually have a really pleasant time being inked!

Fantastic experience: I’ve had two tattoos done here by Lucy and they’re both perfect. I’ll be coming back to this studio everytime I need a tattoo, everyone is so kind and the studio itself is lovely too! You get given aftercare for the tattoos, they always ask if you need a break etc. 100% recommend!

Fantastic experience: Sage did a wonderful job adding to an existing design on my elbow. Her brilliant flash artwork blended seamlessly with my mandala-style elbow piece, enhancing it and bringing it more in line with the graphic styling of my other tattoos. She was meticulous and focused, and the experience was virtually pain-free. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back when I inevitably get the itch to grow the design further up my arm.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend ESPY Tattoo Studio highly enough. As a non-binary individual, I chose the artist SAGE at this brilliant studio to ink one of her superb designs over my top surgery scars. Wanting a minimal yet precise tattoo, SAGE’S background both as a fine artist and milliner gave me the confidence to have implicit trust in her artistic eye, precision, and execution of technique ~ skills which transfer to make her an exceptional tattoo artist. SAGE gave me the freedom to develop the design and its placement over the scars as a joint process. The sensitivity and care SAGE gave to make the experience fun, whilst acknowledging the deep personal meaning of this particular tattoo was really appreciated and special. The adjustment of design over the curves of scarring was aided by the technical expertise of studio owner BOYSIE, who was amazing at editing the design graphically, and understood the potential challenges of inking over scars. ESPY had organised a curtain to ensure I had privacy during the tattoo process, within an open studio, which I really appreciated. If anyone else is seeking to celebrate their scars via top-rate tattoo design and execution within a welcoming and highly professional studio, ESPY is certainly the place to go. 100% recommendation !

However, Boyse listened, reassured and produced a simple, beautiful design that included everything I had asked for . A few readjustments snd that was it. Pain? Hardly any. Result? She is incredibly kind and patient and for my first session spent a lot of time working to make sure everything was how I envisioned it. A gorgeous and unique style which looks amazing both stick and poke and machine.

Fantastic experience: Sage was amazing. Her stick & poke had a super light touch and was painless. I changed my mind about what I wanted right at the last minute and she completely redesigned the image for me. The studio has a really lovely vibe and I’ll treasure my little espy tattoo.

Negative experience: You need to pay more attention to the Tattooing Of Minors Act 1969. It would be a good idea to do a proper ID check before you start working on someone who is legally a child.

Fantastic experience: I went into ESPY after a recommendation and decided to pop in on the off chance one Wednesday afternoon. As soon as I stepped through the door, I knew I’d found the right place. I met Boysie and explained what I was hoping for, and Lucy, who was in the background at the time, immediately said she thought this one might be for her. We had an impromptu consultation right there and then, and I shared my ideas. For a bit of context — this tattoo was something very personal, a tribute to my Dad. I wanted to have it done on our shared birthday, both massive Pink Floyd fans, that was an important theme for me. Lucy took everything in with such care and understanding, and said she’d come back to me with some ideas. From that first meeting, I knew I was in the best hands. Lucy later sent over some designs, and we talked them through together — she was incredible when I wanted to tweak a few details, and came back with a design that was everything I could have hoped for and more. The date was booked, and when I arrived at the studio, I instantly felt relaxed. It was an emotional day for me, but Boysie and Lucy had a playlist on that my Dad would have absolutely loved, which made it all the more special. Boysie was also tattooing that day, and I got a glimpse of his incredible work too — the level of artistry and skill in that studio is honestly next level. The décor and artwork around the studio make it such a unique and inspiring space — calm, creative, and full of character. ESPY is a beautifully welcoming place, and Lucy is not only a truly talented artist but also kind, patient, and so easy to connect with. I’m beyond happy with my tattoo and the whole experience. I would highly recommend ESPY to anyone thinking about getting ink — in fact, don’t go anywhere else!

Negative experience: Had 2 previous small tattoos done here which I absolutely adore. However, booked in a bigger piece in July to add to my collection. It was booked for the end of August and I had seen no design until less than 48 hours before my session. I understand shops can be hectic and busy (I have over 30 tattoos so understand the wait) But the fact it was also a rough draft and it was said a day was set aside to do designs is quite concerning. Then got a call on the morning saying the shop had flooded which i hope was able to be sorted and got no response. I have now booked elsewhere and won’t be booking here again.

She took my vision and created the perfect tattoo for me, and even recommended doing it via stick and poke - which has really made it come out beautifully. She's so talented. The studio has a thoroughly calming and friendly atmosphere with beautiful portfolio's of tattoos and art work to look through for inspiration . They are highly professional and not your stereotypical tattoo studio that may intimadate some. They definitely suit bohemian Lewes clientele.

Fantastic experience: This was my first experience of getting a tattoo and I can say anything bad about Boysie and the team. The shop and staff were all very welcoming, the facilities were very clean, he answered any questions prior to my appointment and worked with the design I gave him perfectly. And on departure gave me after care guide on what to do and some balm to help with the process.

Fantastic experience: From booking to the day of my tattoo, my experience felt special and personal. Lucy helped me create the perfect tribute to my beautiful late dog, Ludo. He had one ear that flopped and one ear that looked like a shark fin, which is what I asked to be tattooed in fine line style. Fantastic experience: What a lovely experience. As a nervous newbie, I met my tattooist Sage, who is the friendliest of girls, who put me at ease as soon as I walked through the door. Nothing was an issue, even when I decided to tweak my design last minute… even though it was very small. She talked through the size and position until I was completely happy and the procedure itself was surprisingly painless. The ESPY studio is a beautifully designed quiet and relaxing studio, that has a lovely feel to it when you walk in. Hygiene is of a very high standard and everyone very professional. I’m very happy with my result and would recommend Sage and the ESPY studio.

Boysie's communications ahead of my appointment and how he worked with me during the appointment were both incredible. He genuinely cared that I got the outcome I wanted, and I did! The studio is immaculately clean and has such a relaxed vibe. I was a bit nervous as I hadn’t had a tattoo for over 20 years but the consent form gave me such a giggle and set the tone for a chilled experience. Regular customers popping in to book their next tattoo and happy to show off their ink adds to the experience. Plus, the amazing tattoo books showing all their work available to browse in the comfy reception make it all too easy to pick the next one before you leave.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic studio with multi talented artists, all having different styles. Spotlessly clean, comfortable seating and various tattoo books to flick through. I think the long table you can sit down at and design your tattoo with your artist, is fabulous. I love the flash in the main window, which slowly turns around, showing more flash pictures. I've had 3 amazing bespoke tattoos done so far, by Char. I have many more to for her to do! Love her bold style.

Everything was prepared meticulously, which immediately put me at ease. Boysie did an incredible job bringing my tiger, Hobbes, to life—capturing every detail even better than I’d imagined. I couldn’t be happier with the result. Hobbes brings me such joy whenever I catch sight of him.
